I agree, not the best video in terms of visual. Not a big fan of the music choice either, besides Halo. But then again I fundamentally disagree with this guy on this subject. I've always found "old Hulk" to be immensely boring. He shows up and punches some things in a big action scene that's all show and no tell. Thor: Ragnarok is my favourite MCU movie for a lot of reasons but also because Hulk is actually interesting in it. The problem with Hulk in the MCU, like he says, is that they hint at an arc and then never give him one. I like Ragnarok because I don't really care about Hulk but I like Banner, and he had space in Ragnarok because there weren't 5 other main protagonists about that needed attention too.
@@trouts4 I also don't understand why taking the stance that turning Hulk into a "baby" for one film is somehow this massive disservice to the character. The long track of Hulk over the MCU is playing out and his time on Sakaar was one step in that journey. Hulk was becoming selfish, Bruce even says that it felt entirely different from how it did before and I'd imagine before Hulk had to grapple with not having an identity aside from "the monster". It's a core part of his character in Ragnarok, that no one loves him on Earth but here he's a lauded, spoiled child. Maybe they poke more fun at him than they should, but I can't imagine Ruffalo would be THAT interested in playing Hulk the exact same way he has for Avengers 1, 2, and now Ragnarok. I feel like the underlying argument to the entire video is "they changed him" which is fundamentally the opposite of what I want from the MCU films. I want to see the characters in a different light, not just have Ruffalo show up and have a director say, "Okay do what you did in those other movies." That's just boring. Jokes have always been framed around the Hulk in the MCU films, god forbid they make them in a film with a more comedic tone that people generally enjoyed. I've watched all the other Marvelous Scene entries on the playlist and this is the only one I disagree with, not in terms of the scene, but because of his interpretation of the character around the scene. And yeah Gubz, my dude, you gotta equalize your music a bit more. It's so loud in the beginning and just after the 7 minute mark. It is overpowering.

I understand now why Edward Norton refused to back down from Feigi and Disney. I cant imagine an actor with his integrity letting his character be a punchline.
As depicted in the MCU: he's about the power level of Ben Grimm/the thing. The "world breaker" hulk and next-level rage strength never appeared. I was very disappointed with how de-powered he was.
Daniel Ellis not always. The thing has varied from original 5 ton to over 100 ton class. 75 to 85 ton being common. Hulk has been listed as 60 ton class when not enraged.
@@scottlowell493Actually Hulks base strength at lowest is 90 as Grey Hulk, while he should be 100+ even in a clam state as the savage Hulk and the thing should also be class 100 since his been shown lifting buildings weighing over 30 thousand tons which isn't even the Things best feat, and still Hulk is always been shown to be stronger even when Things strength was doubled Hulk was still stronger
I understand not bring in the world breaker hulk cus that would make him way to op and no bad guy could really ever stop him but I wish they would make him stronger to truly show he is the strongest I personal hope that hulk becomes a Gillian and everybody has to stop him but marvel probably ain’t gonna do that
Bobby Pendragon but that’s the problem. You arnt meant to question what’s happening in the movie when the movie itself should answer it anyways. Keep in mind it okay to question things outside of the movie if you know what I’m trying to say. (I’m not saying you’re not allowed I’m say the audience isn’t meant to)
@@pablowusgood7724 but the movie itself does answer the question; maybe not every person got it (wich is a risk you take unless you want to go full exposition mode) but personally nothing that Joe said was news for me and I assume for tons of people as well. Interviews do painfully obvious questions like this all the time with sci-fi, fantasy and superhero movies.
Bobby Pendragon Same. I interpreted more or less how they described it. Some people were just interpreting it in very different ways that they didn’t like and forced the directors to explain
He yells "No Banner", if anything he's punching himself and slamming against the Twinjets interior to keep himself in control. Seeing Black Widow brings on so much emotions for the Hulk that he struggles to hold control. Bruce has no idea what is going on, he doesn't even realize that two years have gone by.
The opposite here, among other issues I had with the video, Hulk was Worfed ONCE. by THANOS. And Gubz made it sound like the guy has been Worfed as often as...Worf.
@@JKissoon1 when a new character (can be Villain or Hero) is introduced and beats up a character the audience already knows is tough, to show how this new guy is _really_ tough. The established tough guy character who gets beat up has been "worfed". You can search "The Worth Effect" on TVtropes.org for more detail and examples
Totally agree, and I think the worst thing about Marvel is the way humor is used. They're afraid their audience will get bored or offtrack if there aren't constant jokes. The scenes that dare to be deep and dark and profound are the best. Best example would be Doctor Strange, the scene where he's finally a hero, looks up in the mirror and the cape just ruins the tension by twitching. It's like Mads Mikkelsen's evil Guy joking with Strange : sure it's a tad fun but then your antagonist is, himself, a joke. Not someone you fear
The thing that makes Hulk a compelling character is that it's two people, two people who hate each other more than anything else, and they have to share a body. The Hulk isn't a mask you can put on or take off, he's a whole other being with his own thoughts and feelings. Also he smash the thing and it's cool.
8:43 “I think these two work best when they don’t feel like one another.” Damn, you must be so disappointed now. I know I am! ☹️ I guess we’ll see where they go with him now!
The Hulk is a very intriguing character a lot of people take for granted, and it's honestly been that way since the start of the MCU. He's just been oversimplified to "the big strong green one," but he's so much more. Banner suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder, caused by witnessing his father kill his mother. Caused by his father almost killing him, as well. This other personality is infantile, but full of insurmountable rage and aggression. He's a tragic man trying to suppress his dark side and not let his anger consume him and harm anyone else. He sees himself as a time bomb waiting to go off and hurt everyone he loves. That's a very interesting and compelling character if done right.
Characters have to have arcs. I don't think the Hulk could have kept that much inner tension throughout the entire MCU run. I really like the journey Marvel stories take me on, and I've found appreciation in the arcs they do take.
Just because you showed a clip of the Russos explaining the arc doesn't mean that the arc doesn't speak for itself. There are clips of Russos explaining ALL the arcs. And if you're expecting something and it doesn't go the way you want, that doesn't mean the arc doesn't have something of its own to offer.
John Startop so you got, without any indication, that hulk just didn’t want to help Banner because he just didn’t like him? You didn’t think it had anything to do with Thanos beating his ass?
I love the sympathetic take on how Hulk just wants to stay in control and have a purpose and existence and be loved like on Ragnarok. He tries to keep control over their "body", but not malevolently. In fact it's very similar to how Banner wants to stay in control. He sees Banner as the bad guy keeping him locked away, and only calling on him to use him to solve problems. It's amazing. I do hope the arc is completed with them finding peace with one another, but naturally and not artificially.
I believe hulk’s degradation in infinity war can be attributed to the size of the cast. Making a movie with a cast on such a scale would have some impact on the individual characters. As an analogy, I think the Russos invested their points into some things on the skill tree(the other avengers) but laid back for others(eg. hulk). Hulk has definitely not been written as well as the others, but I think that can be improved on in endgame, since the cast has been halved
I personally prefer Hulk being a savage brute while Banner being intelligent but yet weak. With professor hulk, this duality is completely gone. I feel like it will blur the lines between hulk and banner until there is no line left. I would prefer world breaker Hulk over professor Hulk.
@@siddharth1200 He wouldn't have to stay in world breaker permanently. It could just be a temporary state of pure rage that Hulk goes through and loses absolute control. Only this raging anger towards Thanos was able to bring out this unstoppable side of the Hulk.
@@drserr6581 yeah that would be awesome but if world breaker hulk shows up it would have to be on another planet(Titan)otherwise it would be him who would destroy earth instead of thanos lol
One marvelous scene to me from all the mcu films up to endgame. Is in infinity war. When Thor and rocket are alone talking about their pasts and all of Thor’s losses. A god, a being that you would never think to see weakness from is admitting that he has nothing to live for and the only thing keeping him going rage and vengeance. It’s a short but powerful scene. Showing even the most powerful of people have lost so much. I will never forget that scene.
Well, that's your opinion. Personally, I love the direct they're taking the Hulk. Hulk getting beat down didn't downgrade how bad ass he is, it showed how much more bad ass Thanos was. Professor Hulk is a great evolution of the character. He doesn't have to be the strongest Avenger now. His ability to comprehend that he was the one that could bring back the everyone without dying. It worked.
kelvin webley He had a brief one during the final battle, but there’s so much happening that you can barely notice it. The only reason why we know about it now is because the movie has released digitally and people can watch it at their own pace (hence why I’m commenting 3 months later).
It was a sad but powerful scene because it showed the two personalities really fighting. For some reason they decided an occasional “nooooooo” was enough for infinity war.
Gubz If you are reading this I just wanna say that I love your videos i missed you when you were gone for a while you are the one thing that gives me happiness in this dark world thank you But question HOW THICC IS THICCSILVER
World breaker hulk is a bit ridiculous, and if they did it it would need to be its own movie. Having the process of hulk getting to world breaker hulk is very long and isn’t something that just happens
With Endgame having been out and showing us Professor Hulk, I think people forget why it even happened. In Avengers, Bruce was afraid of showing himself to the world, but came anyways to save it. Bruce was accepted back into society while Hulk was seen as something to pull out when needed to fight. Age of Ultron comes around and Hulk shows us something. He shows remorse for his actions in that one town and he sees the carnage that he made and begins to realize that people won't accept him. He leaves Earth and finds himself on Sakaar, where he is worshipped and loved for two whole years. He then sees the video of Natasha and begins to realize that while everyone on Sakaar loves him, he had genuine friends and loved ones who was willing to stay by his side. That crack allowed Banner to come out. After the events of Ragnarok, Hulk knew he could never go back to what he had. The one thing he did have was that he was the strongest, until Thanos came. Hulk didn't want to come back out only to lose again. He basically lost everything at that point and he didn't know how to deal with it. Even Bruce says that "We are gonna have to figure things out" when Hulk wouldn't come out during the New York fight. Then later on, when Hulk doesn't come out still during the Wakanda fight, Bruce takes over completely to fight their battle. After the snap, he and Hulk had a lot of time to connect with each other. They both know they had to be better because "First Hulk lost, and then Banner lost", as he said to the others when they met up again 5 years later. With the Professor Hulk form, Hulk finally got what he always wanted: to be accepted by others. Sure, he was accepted on Sakaar, but it was true acceptance on Earth where anyone would come to him to meet him. Heck, in a deleted scene, he was shown being a true hero. Instead of cops having their guns pointed at him, they thanked him and were glad he was there to help them. In the end, it was the current Hulk that the world, and the universe, needed to make things right. He's happy now, and while he may be down an arm for now (he did still fight with it, and I would assume that his healing factor may only be going slow due to what caused him the damage. I mean, look at how Thanos and Tony was when they snapped. Thanos probably got lucky to have been alive after doing that second snap), he can still go to the world he now loves and help protect it when needed.
The Hulk is essentially dead. Bruce is all that's left. Since the hulk is a separate personality, we can assume he is gone for good unless the mcu decide to give him control again. Also, hulk fans were disappointed in how they potrayed the Hulk as more weak and childish as you progressed through the movies. Banner was great, but the hulk as a character was not. Characters like Thor, Iron man and Captain America were excellent.
The Hulk/Banner has been my favorite comic book character for as long as I can remember. I associate myself with both personalities for my own reasons easy to guess but also personal. This video resonated with me a lot. Thank you for making and sharing it.
The hulk in avengers: get smashed by Thor The hulk in avengers age of ultron: get smashed by tony The hulk in ragnarok: gets smashed by Thor again The hulk in infinity war: gets smashed by thanos The hulk in endgame: suddenly smashes everyone
In AOU he was calmed down by the scared people. He would have gotten up and probably won if he didnt see them. Ragnorok it ain't fair to say anyone was smashed because we never saw Hulk get insanely angry and at full power. He got hit once and was shocked but that was it.

Would love to see your view on hulk in endgame . I think they have destroyed everything Stan lee wanted he’s fans to see I think the Russo bros have completely spoiled hulk
This is beautiful. I always thought Hulk was punching himself because that's his go to move for solving problems or reacting to someone causing him pain. Like he's punching the thought of Natasha out of his head because it's causing him so much pain. But it could he any or all of the things you mentioned too.

I thought they were going to at least do the traditional shut Banner off of 10 minutes so I can go wild bit but they didn't even pull that out
base hulk is definitely STRONGER than the thing. the thing is about even (if not weaker) than she-hulk

He fell from Grace right after his departure in Age of Ultron.

John Startop yeah but Hulk’s motivation wasn’t shown well anyway.
@@yeahkeen2905 I got it crystal clear, so it depends on the person.
John Startop so you got, without any indication, that hulk just didn’t want to help Banner because he just didn’t like him? You didn’t think it had anything to do with Thanos beating his ass?
@@yeahkeen2905 If you think it's that simple, maybe you should stick to simpler films.
John Startop like I said, that arc wasn’t shown to the audience well. Simple.
I agree MCU diminished Hulk each movie I was hoping for rematch in endgames but he still in diminished
In the Infinity War commentary they said that the reason we no longer see Hulk is bc he is tired of being used
Professor hulk, no more hulk, only banner

i respect the Big Time Rush clip 😩💪🏾
I believe hulk’s degradation in infinity war can be attributed to the size of the cast. Making a movie with a cast on such a scale would have some impact on the individual characters. As an analogy, I think the Russos invested their points into some things on the skill tree(the other avengers) but laid back for others(eg. hulk). Hulk has definitely not been written as well as the others, but I think that can be improved on in endgame, since the cast has been halved

Hulk is criminally underpowered in the MCU
This is really sad and I am sad now
Well, that's your opinion.
It worked.
I don't mind professor hulk, just wished he had a power moment in endgame
kelvin webley He had a brief one during the final battle, but there’s so much happening that you can barely notice it.

It was a sad but powerful scene because it showed the two personalities really fighting. For some reason they decided an occasional “nooooooo” was enough for infinity war.

Totally agree I think there should of been world breaker in endgame
Bruh the first few seconds and you're like "and finally we get to see the Hulk in his most definitive *HOWEVER*
With Endgame having been out and showing us Professor Hulk, I think people forget why it even happened.
Uhh what do you think director commentary is? They didn't HAVE to explain Banner's arc. It made perfect sense
