I had a wand with critical battery, which I loved. I now have a power wand. I must say I do very much prefer the power wand for how compact it is but not sure it’s worth the extra.
Thanks for making this video! Are you still happy with the normal critical batteries? Is the runtime still good after x amount of time you've had them? Thanks!
I bought the powerwand because it's my first bishop rotary machine, I have a cheyenne sol nova unlimited and wanting something new. If u have the original one I wouldn't say it's useful to buy the new one
Literally overnight - Worldwide tattoo supply changed the price of the set from $1,299 to $1,500, and the lone machine from $799 to $950. And bumped up the price of the v1 wand to $700... Faulhaber motors aren't very costly, you can buy them directly from Faulhaber, and have them customized to your needs. Use a 3D printer to pop out a housing... Ask a around if you don't have a printer. Buy grips you like. Buy a set of any cams/rods to fit the pin on your motor. Head on over to B&H Photo (or another source) for your RCA jack. Pick up wires/connectors through them or your local automotive store. Grab a soldering iron and go to town. Cost won't be anywhere near as expensive as Bishop. And you'll be confident in repairing and building your own machines. If you're considering a Bishop, consider this suggestion first. They're great machines - but way overpriced. And by the looks of it they're trying to monopolize their products, and it's certainly a cash grab at this point.
I think a big factor a lot of people over look is that eventually over time the old wand rca connection will eventually get loose on the critical battery witch is why I assume they switched to a magnetic connection if had two critical batteries connection get loose and then the batteries just short out randomly idk just my two cents
That’s definitely a possibility! I’ve had critical batteries and the wand since they came out and haven’t had that problem. Maybe it’s just something here and there that happens
The biggest change I’m surprised anyone hasn’t mentioned is the motor is now located more center so it doesn’t have same pendulum feel. This might be a plus for some but using it it feels different.
Bought the power wand ( biggggg investment ), but damn it works like crazy. Firstly, I have to say that they killed the design, simplistic yet powerful and ergonomic. All the pens I had in the past were so chunky, and just overall brought with time some wrist/joint pain. I can really feel the lack of weight in this one. Secondly, I truly think that if you re someone who works with 9RLs and above, you will really appreciate this one. The power with which it punches the lines in, I think is great. No pens have reached this level imo..( I haven 't tried all pens TBH, but also listening to fellow colleagues who discuss abt their current set up, and are not entirely pleased ). It s super expensive though, so if you have the possibility to borrow one from a fellow tattooer, please do! That's how I made up my mind 🥺!
Just got mine, a power wand liner, and it’s amazing I’ve had other machine with wireless batter attachments and if you want comfort I think that bishop provides that! Haven’t been this excited about a machine in a long time , and it’s my only Bishop.
Starting it which machine would you recommend ? Can I get only one of these bishop and it would work for most purposes? Or do I need to get multiple machines for different things ?
Whatever one has the one I want. I’d rather buy direct from the manufacturer. But sometimes different supply sites will have good deals. I honestly just shop around

Literally no difference. I had my artist wrap the OG wand with dental barrier and a shorty critical battery and it felt exactly like his power wand. I don’t understand it
What do u think about the wireless dragon hawk mast tour I’m new starting off with tattooing practicing on fake skin still but I want a new machine it runs about 165 which is cheap but it’s in my budget as of right now
Those cheaper machines are usually all the same. Usually decent shading machines, but how long the motor will last is always the question bc they are cheaper. For beginners I always say go for a quality machine. You won’t end up frustrated in it’s limited capability and you will be able to grow with it.
I’ve been thinking about the bishop wand liner, are there any other tattoo pens u recommend for beginning tattoo artist that is budget friendly and legit for mainly lining, some shading?
Aren't the batteries that come with the power wands compatible with the Critical Connect pedal? That is a plus, but still these are a little too rich for me. The critical connect are also available as a kit with 2 batteries and a pedal, with the universal rca fitting. Makes more sense to go that route instead of having machine-specific batteries.
@@ThatTattooGuyOfficial Absolutely. The other hugely disappointing factor is that Critical made these batteries with their own exclusive foot switch... I currently use the Atom x-R with their cxp19 pedal, I don't think it would have been a stretch to make these batteries compatible with that pedal. I'd love to try the wireless power on a foot switch, but that would mean buying another $100 pedal. It's a little frustrating.
Sorry to bumbard you with questions. I have another one. I noticed in your time lapse video the cartridges you were using well and you said what they were lol. I was so pissed off when bishop came out with these power wands cause I just bought all 3 of the originals and the critical batteries, then I needed some emergency cash so I sold the battery set to a friend for half the cost, then went out a couple months later and re-bought the batteries at full price and I shit you not one week after spending $600+ on those critical batteries AGAIN! Critical up and comes out with the newer model that you can control with a foot pedal which Is really what I had wished they offered to begin with cause I'm just a foot pedal guy, So I contacted the supplier to see if I could send them back and pay the extra $50 for the new ones since the ones I purchased ONE week earlier where still in the factory sealed package cause I hadn't used them yet cause they didn't arrive in mail yet before the ad for the new model was sent to my email by the same supplier, But no dice! They couldn't do that, I told them just stop the package so then there would be no way I could have opened or use them, anyway I was really wanting the new power wands but everything you said makes perfect sense. And I'm good with the originals!
Yeahhh maybe if they implemented a way for those batteries to fit other machines and added something new to the machine that improved its performance by 20% or more, youll be essentially paying just to have magnetic wireless critical batteries lol those are some expensive magnets
@@ThatTattooGuyOfficial yeah if they just waited and worked on a new line of machine sets with better everything then it would make sense to buy, they probably just got money hungry.
Definitely a cash grab. They could’ve came out with adapters for the smaller batteries that are compact & flush with the machine or whatever. Not a whole new machine that’s not any different. Not a machine builder by any means but this could’ve been gone about a different way.
I would say better in the sense that it’s less prone to damage than the OG, The og model has the rca adapter poking out that over time can loosen up and end up just twisting completely off from the power connector.
