Man, this guy is so knowledgeable on these Fox's....I'm so happy he shares his knowledge with you for the channel. Invaluable! I hope he knows how much we appreciate him.
@@GearHead704 I like the fact that you are trying to get some of the work done yourself. Watching your video is more comprehensive than watching an expert due to the small details that us newbies dont know, and you explain. I think its great that you have an xpert showing you the proper way. It simplifies things for us aswell. Great Hero car by the way!
Lots of great knowledge shared! I had help but did a dry compression test on mine before I had everything rebuilt. Didn’t do a wet one, but my culprit was a blown head gasket (at 232,000 original miles lol)
I have to fiddle with the clutch adjustment on my car, I'll get it. Another great video Matt, so I'm little behind been playing catch up after holidays 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Glad the motor is ok ! Now u just have to rebuild 1 instead of 2 at least on the 331 u have most of ur part's hopefully the cylinders don't need to be bore out maybe u can hone the cylinders !!!
That distributor cap is definitely a problem! I imagine the rotor inside is toast as well. I bet it would have run 100% better if yall were able to install new plugs, cap and rotor. Either way, can't wait to see what's next!
Yeah there's definitely some life left in the paint. My buddy Terry tried that out in this video if you haven't seen it. ua-cam.com/video/EeIGbL0RAHI/v-deo.html
Good video! You should have sanded the corrosion off the distributor cap. It’s a quick way to verify your theory. Also check the inside of the cap for corrosion. Either way it’s a cheap fix.
With the compression as far off as it is I would just go ahead and replace the rings. The engine will be apart anyway right? Just for peace of mind you know? New bearings and rings would make me feel better about it. That and get a valve job done while its apart. Wouldn't hurt lol
For now, he doesnt need to replace the rings. The lower cylinders are around 10-15% off. It'll take a lot of work and money to re-ring the engine. His goal is to make it to the chocolate fox, so that leaves him little time. I wouldn't re-ring it at this point. Fix the pan, give a good tune up and it'll run way better.
I think we are ok for now (Ponie1992 has a great response on why below), but if the reading was off by more than 20% I would certainly be looking at doing something like that. The internals aren't coming apart at this time.
Yeah we disconnected fuel rails, and some other things. We may have covered this in the one of the follow on videos, if not we've pulled the engine in about 3 different videos.

100% agreed! Yeah I tell him the comments all the time, but i'm not sure if he believes me LOL
Really damn good video Matt
👊💪
Another great video bud 👍👍👍
Thanks man!
Great resource and connection for knowledge and help! Love seeing these. Learn something every time.
Yeah man me too. I was very happy the compression came out ok.
Very informative, i think i learned something. Thanks gear head!
No problem. I'm learning all the time there LOL

It's kind of natural for me because to me all the details matter right now LOL. I LOVE tarheelfox.
Now these are the videos you need to gear the channel on. You guys work good together . And explain in great detail . 👍👍👍👍
Yeah man this seems to be the type of content the majority wants. I'm going to work on doing more like this for sure. Thanks Jay!
Just wish Matt looked as good as your wife...hahaha. but will have to do👍
LMAO, I'm glad he don't otherwise I doubt she would let me work with him hah hah
Another great video actually learned a lot
Thanks and I'm glad it was helpful!
Great info. Some good do-it-yourself tips
Thanks bud.
If your purchasing your own gloves, look into Venom gloves. Much better product.
I've been stealing/using Matt's fro now LOL

I'd say you got your money's worth out of that old head gasket LOL
I'm here champ for more legendary content 👊
Thanks mane! We got back to the car stuff in this one at least.
First time I had heard of a wet compression test, learn something new everyday.
Great to hear. Yeah i'm always learning a ton over there LOL
You knew it was bad. Re-ring it and put it back together. It should be fine. You can also replace somethings while it’s apart.
Actually, looks like the compression is good, but still taking the motor out to replace the oil pan among other things.
I need to purchase a compression testing kit. You don't often need a tool until you need it. Good to know about the wet test.
Yeah, the wet test was completely new thing for me.
That’s great news that you don’t have to rebuild 2.
I'm beyond relieved LOL
I have to fiddle with the clutch adjustment on my car, I'll get it. Another great video Matt, so I'm little behind been playing catch up after holidays 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
No worries Mike. Hope you had a great Christmas and New Years.
Glad your finally working on the ssp looking forward to all the progress, good video.
Thanks Jim! Yeah i'm excited to be back on the SSP.
Tick tock to the Chocolate Fox show!!!!! Get a move on and git er done Matt!!! I'm kicking away on wifey's car myself !!!!!👍👍👍👊👊👊😁😉
I have a feeling you'll go quicker buddy! LOL Looking forward to it.
@@GearHead704 😁😁😉😉👍👍
Great video as usual! You can really see how far you’ve progressed with absorbing the mechanical knowledge! Keep it up brother! 💪🏻🍻
Thanks man! I'm feeling much more comfortable now for sure.

Yeah man, it was real peace of mind and that's the hope!
I'm glad it seems to be a solid motor, you were due for some good motor news!
Man, I was very glad too!

Yeah, if I didn't have to replace the oil pan I would've probably tried that. We'll get there. Thanks as always for the support bud.
Polish and wax the paint, itll look nice! If you pull the motor weld some scott rod panels in the engine bay it cleans it up alot
Yeah there's definitely some life left in the paint. My buddy Terry tried that out in this video if you haven't seen it. ua-cam.com/video/EeIGbL0RAHI/v-deo.html

@@GearHead704 well that's good. I cant wait to see how it does! 😁👍
Did you guys remove anything fuel wise?
This video is pretty old, but as I remember we just disconnected the spark, nothing to do with fuel.
@@GearHead704 okay thank you
Great video Matt🤘Your video quality is awesome.. What camera are you shooting with?
Thanks mang! I recently got a GoPro Hero 8, and i'm very happy with the quality on it.
Did you guys disconnect anything like the fuel pump or any harnesses? Or just the distributor
Yeah we disconnected fuel rails, and some other things. We may have covered this in the one of the follow on videos, if not we've pulled the engine in about 3 different videos.
what is the compression range of a 5.0 motor?
Don't know for sure. It's something we might cover in a future video.
Matt seems like a nice mechanic most are dickheads you got lucky finding him man love the show
Yeah Matt is great, i'm fortunate to have him as a teacher.
Awesome video! It will be ready for some chocolate! ;-)
Hah hah, yeah man!
Well im second! Ha!
LOL 🤣😂🤣
Hah hah, nice going Chris!
I'm First!!!!!
Nicely done Jim! 😁
