The fact that the spino in the show is 273 feet long is so inaccurate, but also terrifying. Can't even imagine how tall it is. Also, just imagine it running straight at you.
The guy who did the 3d models for this "documentary" also did the ones for Sea Monsters a Prehistoric Adventure, Julian Johnson-mortimer. He has an active UA-cam channel btw using his name.
He stated in an interview once that he originally wanted the Spinosaurus model to be scientifically accurate for the time but the producers didn't let him, so he tried to sneak in as many loopholes as he could (neutral position wrists, no fenestra outline and crocodile like throat pouch etc.) And that's the reason why most of the other creature designs look kind of decent
You forgot to mention how the butchered Elasmosaurs. They’re portrayed as fodder for Mosasaurs that get killed easily and move to Deeper water to avoid competition. (They we’re deep sea creatures, but that because the neiche was open) In reality, they were effective predators in their own right, with super flexible necks that would have been more then capable of at least badly wounding a Mosasaur attempting to attack it.
@@chancegivens9390 there was a study by Leslie F.Noè, Michael A. Taylor, and Marcela Gomez-Perez on the topic. I’ve tried linking the study, but UA-cam keeps deleting it. You can look it up!
The inconsistent size and scaling in that Spino episode was just absolutely insulting. A 30ft Rugops was picked up with 2 hands 😂😂 what the fuck were they thinking
A small correction. Rugops isn't being portrayed as the size of Spino's head. Also while they say it's 30 feet, it never appears to actually be that length when compared to any of the other dinosaurs. It does appear to be closer to the actual 20 feet that they believed it to be. It's tail is roughly as long as its body and head, and its tail is a little longer than Spino's skull. Indicating that the skull is around 10ish feet, give or take a few. Rough guesstimating.. That still puts Spino in the 70-120 foot range though. Which is obnoxious.
That was quite a generous and fair review, great video! I do have one correction: Edward’s Wolf wasn’t a coyote ancestor. It and the Armbruster’s Wolf were in the Dire Wolf lineage, which separated from all other canids back when Eucyon was starting to expand from North America. Unfortunately, the Dire Wolf is the only one so far to have been officially renamed outside Canis. All modern North American wolves and coyotes came here during the late Pleistocene.
I know you mentioned that the _Spinosaurus_ discourse would erupt in the comments, but I feel like it is inevitable to mention the following : We literally cannot even be confident about referring specimens to _Spinosaurus_ anymore. Both Hendrickx et al. (2016) and Barker et al. 2021) make a pretty good case for that. We know that at least *3* different _Spinosaurids_ are found in the Wealden Group (Baryonyx, Ceratosuchops, Riparovenator), and we have elements overlapping between all 3 of them so the splitting of them into 3 genera is supported by evidence. The Kem Kem beds span a very vast range of time and localities, and we do not have Stromer's holotype for detailed comparisons. At the very least, we know that Ibrahim's specimen + the paddle tail are probably one animal, though whether it actually is a _Spinosaurus_ can't be conclusively said. The large snout that the body size estimates of ~15 meters comes from cannot be confidently referred to either _Sigilmassasaurus_ or _Spinosaurus_ because we do not have overlap (holotypic, or connected to the holotype) to tell us what either of their upper jaws actually looks like. So all we know right now is that 1. There is probably a 15-meter Spinosaurid from North Africa, and 2. There is definitely a spinosaurid with reduced hindlimbs and a paddle-tail, but there is no way to precisely say that the former is _Spinosaurus_ and the latter is _Sigilmassasaurus, or vice versa. Hell, if the Wealden supergroup contains 3 distinct spinosaurid genera then that makes the Kem Kem situation even more complicated.
I’m skeptical of the validity of Ceratosuchops and Riparovenator. Their remains are really fragmentary and don’t have any distinguishing characteristics.

Hypothesis: Spinosaurus used it's sail in the same way as a sailfish or marlin does. In these fish the sail creates lateral stability when swimming so the head doesn't move side to side as much, this in turn makes it easier to get your head to point where you want it when trying to catch a fish. I believe that, other than the sail, Spinosaurus essentially behaved like a crocodile and was built like a crocodile. The tail: great for propulsion underwater The small legs: bad for terrestrial life but great for being held against the body while swimming, small legs reduce underwater drag and can be tucked away. Nostrils: higher up and near eyes which are also higher up, perfect for being submerged but still looking and breathing above water, while waiting to ambush, resting or swimming along the surface (just like a crocodile). EDIT: those hands and feet were webbed
For context on the spino size for the Dino to fit in its mouth… 272 ft is 82.906 meters. 1984/5 Godzilla is 80 meters. It’s taller then like half of the Godzillas. The shows era ones are 50!

While this documentary series has its' flaws, I did enjoy the Terror Bird and Bear Dog episodes, and I still have a soft spot for the Giant Ripper (Megalania) episode. It's always nice to see the Australian megafauna get some attention.
To be honest the only good episodes that I actually liked was the bear dog episode. We actually no no the extinction of terror birds from North America The short face bear I heard was responsible to wipe out the terror birds even the sabertooth‘s. We now know that spinosaurus was 45 to 50 feet long and was less than 12 tons. The tyolosaurs episode was pretty good in my opinion. And while the spino is wrong due to now, it did get some right, but they still got some wrong even for the time, because for the time, I'm pretty sure the crest was known at the time. Maybe instead of not comparing anything to the T. rex we should compare everything ever to the T. rex. I just want to see a documentary say something like: the quagga zebra was a lot like the T. rex but more zebra shaped and not at all like the T. rex.

12:38 Hippos and crocodiles kinda disprove this notion. They're massive creatures yet are capable of extremely quick bursts of sprinting. You also have to consider the fact that whatever animal in Spino's habitat is going to be stuck in going through the thick mud of the swamps/coastline habitat in order to get to water.
Finally. FINALLY somebody tears this GOD-AWFUL abomination of a Dinosaur documentary to shreds. Honestly though, I do like SOME of the episodes of this documentary, but its still easily the worst Dinosaur/Prehistoric documentary ever created. Even worse than Jurassic Fight Club. Thank you very much for reviewing this show. Now I'm even MORE excited and filled with anticipation to see Paleo Nerd's review of this show.

Finally, I’ve been waiting for this for a long time since the Dinosaurs Alive video. I certainly agree with everything you said and address everything about this and this documentary is certainly the most disappointing things I’ve ever seen ever since Dinosaur Island 2014 and Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur in my opinion. Great video and hopefully, Dinosaur Revolution and Planet Dinosaur comes up next after this travesty of a documentary that had so much potential.
Spinosaurus is 100% my favorite dinosaur (and more interesting then T-Rex like god that dinosaur is getting stale) But even as a kid, when i watched this I was picking up more of the monster, than Spinosaurus. I liked seeing Spinosaurus kick ass but I also wanted to see it fish and care for its young. And as a kid I HATED it's design. I knew they were just trying to make it look cool.
When I was growing up, my favourite dinosaur book that was published in 2006 wrote that Rugops was 9m (30ft) long, so if anyone has evidence of Rugops being smaller, please let me know where to find it. Also, Monsters Resurrected featured Rugops as a killer dinosaur that could take on a juvenile Paralatitan o it’s own size, when careful examination reveals that Rugops had a weak jaw and skull, added with small, weak, shallow rooted teeth, and a weak bite force. This meant that Rugops was purely a scavenger and therefore could hunt its own food, neither would it be capable of killing a similar sized sauropod with one bite, or a giant Spinosaurus with several other individuals working in a pack.
Whenever Dinosaur George Blasing makes a prehistoric documentary, you can expect these things -over sizing of animals I mean the man said megalodon, was the size of a jumbo jet, almost 300 feet 😳 -animals killing everything in sight, even though there's a already dead prey item -brining up random ideas about a species that was never even thought of, and makes no sense -gets time periods wrong, and even overlaps a time period with one that comes after or before it List could be longer, but I'm too tired to continue it
I'm gonna be real: I actually really liked the Spino design in this show. Obviously, it's inaccurate from a scientific standpoint, but if I were to see it in a B-movie or a video game, where such an exaggerated design and kill-everything-in-sight disposition is to be expected, I'd be happy with it. Honestly, that's the best way to approach this show in general: Don't watch it for education. If you must watch it at all, do so for entertainment. In short, it's a guilty pleasure for me.

While this documentary series has its' flaws, I did enjoy the Terror Bird and Bear Dog episodes, and I still have a soft spot for the Giant Ripper (Megalania) episode. It's always nice to see the Australian megafauna get some attention.
An issue with the megalania one: a 6m monitor lizards would weigh at least double of what they claimed in the video.
The megalania video is my favorite!
But I still can’t wait when you review the other episodes I also met Dr. Kenneth lavocara also in the spinosaurus episode I like in the episode he said that if it falls it back it would die it would make sense really.
Yeah, according to my estimates from the average sized MSNM-V4047 who is 8 tons and 14.4 Meters to the largest one NHMUK R 16421 who is 16.5 Meters,we have a max of 10 Tons so Spino’s were in the range of 7-10 Tons
@@suchomimustenerensis I mean I always thought that spinosaurus would’ve been around 5 to 6 tons but who really knows until we find more actual evidence
@@tyrannotherium7873 5 tons?For a 13-16.5 Meter animal?
Do you have a point
@Extremion that's close to an elephant in weight. Though i've heard of some elephants being a bit heavier than that. Idk how an animal like this could live in modern day africa outside of the congo. You have
Elephants and Hippos:dangerous
Giraffes, Zebras and Antelopes:just too fast unless if it's crossing a river.
Lions, Hyenas, Painted dogs and Baboons: hope your young and eggs are safe.
It's funny how they have group of tiny rugops take down a much more massive predator
Those rugops are 30+ feet long. How they were tiny
The fact that the program refers to dinosaurs et al, as "monsters" should tell you all you need to know. They were just animals, calling them monsters cheapens them.
I knew as you got older you would tone down the greatness routine. Sux that I dont get to laugh about it now : ( But yep, another great upload from you, & looking forward to more of your content.
The discovery channel certainly learned from their mistakes on this when they made Last Day of the Dinosaurs that’s for sure.
We should be getting close to the year of the dinosaur revolution dino doc. I'm excited for that one if red reviews it.
"also,Tyrannosaurus killed its prey with its chainsaw moose legs, had 7 hearts and brains, breathed out toxic viruses and made their babies eat crab Penuses" -- trailer for monsters ressurected 3: invented without n
I vaguely remember seeing the first 2 episodes (and maybe the third) and how I thought the animatronic stuff was so cool to see.
To be honest, this was a fair review for this show. It isn't exactly the worst, but I agree. It's like a dinosaur battle Royale in this show. However it does gets its moments. And while the spino is wrong due to now, it did get some right, but they still got some wrong even for the time, because for the time, I'm pretty sure the crest was known at the time. So it's nice to hear your views on it!
I honestly laughed at the scene where the spino guts the sarco in one swipe
Maybe instead of not comparing anything to the T. rex we should compare everything ever to the T. rex. I just want to see a documentary say something like: the quagga zebra was a lot like the T. rex but more zebra shaped and not at all like the T. rex.
Red Raptor if you read this can you please cover prehistoric predators because even though it might not be the best, it is one of my favourite documentaries. it is about life after Dino's with kelenken, entelodont, hyenadon, etc
Are you going to review the show Prehistoric Predators from 2007? Or, because it features Cenozoic creatures only, are you skipping it?
I will agree with dinosaur behavior wether accurate or inaccurate they should act like normal they should act and behave like real animals , not blood thirsty monsters .
Monsters are animals too
the song that you put in the video well the giant sloth gets murdered by smilodon is so sad that it makes me cry and it also made feel bad for the sloth
I liked the terror bird episode as a kid I haven’t seen the show in full since they took it off Netflix
I remember trying to watch it once. I didn't know whether to find it infuriating or depressing!
Great vid can't wait for part 2
I love the run cycle they gave the Spino. It's hilarious!
Ah, I remember this series. Now I see why I focused on certain episodes such as the Terror Bird one or the Megalania one. Do I dislike this series, not drastically but I can understand the disrespect people have for it. Intrigued to see Part 2, till then, keep up your informative content Red Raptor Writes, stay safe and have a great day.
Monsters Resurrected Spinosaurus : You're weak
Jurassic Park 3 Spinosaurus : bro, you lost to a few tiny Rugops biting your hand
I was absolutely obsessed with that terror bird episode as a kid i would watch it over and over and it was my favorite prehistoric animal
Cant wait for Spinozilla's response video
We don't talk about that guy
@@SIMBA-tq2ch XD
Ah yes, 272 FEET SPINOSAURUS
i dont even know how much is 272 feet but if i put my feet on the ground 272 times it'd be extremely gigantic
For those metric lovers who want to know how long the 273 foot fake spino is in meters, the fake spino is roughly 83 meters long.
WHAT THE
I remember watching this show when I was little. I liked it then, and I kinda wonder how it actually holds up now that I have actual critical thinking skills (probably not well lmao).
10:32 Sadly this is the truth, dinosaurs are very mean to each other. For example spinosaurus was often called racial slurs by carcharodontosaurus.
I know you are reviewing dinosaur documentaries in the order they were released so I know these probable won’t be the very next one but will you pls eventually review the following?:
Tarbosaurus: The Mightest Ever (2008)
Dinosaur Britain (2015)
Leap in Evolution (2015)
Prehistoric (2010)
Amazing Dino world (2019)
Ancient Earth (Season 1 and 2 have drastic paleo-accuracy BTW) (1st season 2017 and 2nd Season 2018)
Ancient Oceans (2019)
Land of Dinosaurs (2012 I think)
Adventures of Ceratops (Probably least likely to happen) (2014)
One nother problem: big claws can not Pearce through thicc armor like butter 🧈
12:10 can’t wait for Godzilla vs Spino
the michael w smith sound byte was so random, lol. mostly because I didnt think most people had any idea who he is.
Was NOT expecting Above All inserted in there
3:53
JFC Ceratosaurus and Tenontosaurus: "Welcome to our club! Welcome to our club!"
MR Carcharodontosaurus: (Gets mad)
Me: LOL XD
Finally, I’ve been waiting for this for a long time since the Dinosaurs Alive video.
I certainly agree with everything you said and address everything about this and this documentary is certainly the most disappointing things I’ve ever seen ever since Dinosaur Island 2014 and Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur in my opinion.
Great video and hopefully, Dinosaur Revolution and Planet Dinosaur comes up next after this travesty of a documentary that had so much potential.
Spinosaurus is 100% my favorite dinosaur (and more interesting then T-Rex like god that dinosaur is getting stale)
But even as a kid, when i watched this I was picking up more of the monster, than Spinosaurus. I liked seeing Spinosaurus kick ass but I also wanted to see it fish and care for its young. And as a kid I HATED it's design. I knew they were just trying to make it look cool.
I really want to see Spinosaurus parenting as well.
Spinosaurus has evolved more then a pokemon at this point, but however it really would have looked i 'd still enjoy it for how interesting it is.
Imagine a spinosaurus actually being able to kill a Carcharo or a Sarcho 😂
A spino 100% could what? There’s literally broken spines from fights against charcharadontosaurus
@@Eyen They said *imagine*
@imtyler99yearsago90 yes but if you see the context on hiw they said it they were implying it couldn't
@@Eyenok 2 whole years later (or more) I stand corrected, sarco likley, Carcharodontosaurus maybe it’s close
Bullshit. No carnivore is an obligate scavenger. Abelisaurs like Rugops were easily capable of hunting. Do you think Carnotaurus was a scavenger?
Whenever Dinosaur George Blasing makes a prehistoric documentary, you can expect these things
-over sizing of animals
I mean the man said megalodon, was the size of a jumbo jet, almost 300 feet 😳
-animals killing everything in sight, even though there's a already dead prey item
-brining up random ideas about a species that was never even thought of, and makes no sense
-gets time periods wrong, and even overlaps a time period with one that comes after or before it
List could be longer, but I'm too tired to continue it
Of course George blasing was involved…
I'm gonna be real: I actually really liked the Spino design in this show. Obviously, it's inaccurate from a scientific standpoint, but if I were to see it in a B-movie or a video game, where such an exaggerated design and kill-everything-in-sight disposition is to be expected, I'd be happy with it.
Honestly, that's the best way to approach this show in general: Don't watch it for education. If you must watch it at all, do so for entertainment.
In short, it's a guilty pleasure for me.
I see the vault boy throwing up in the thumbnail, this is going to be a good one.
Spinosauras was a top towards design, now it’s looking like a sail furball
“Do they always need to be murduring things”
Prehistoric planet:”no”
Missed opportunity to use the "I just love killin'!" meme from Rick & Morty in regards to this documentary's obsession with violence
