    I’m 63, living in Sydney as I did through the best years of Australian music 70’s 80’s and 90’s, I think my self lucky. I’ve got bands like the Go-Betweens as the soundtrack to my life.

    That's a great version of Bachelor Kisses, never heard it with Amanda's keys and harmonies before. It nearly sounds like a slower, more organic Stereolab.

      Amanda Brown brought a new dimension to the band, that's for sure, the classic line up and a great version of 'To reach me'.

    People can be critical about Lindy Morrison's drumming - you don't need to be technically gifted to make a band work. I have always loved her drumming and her performance.

      I saw The Go-Betweens three times with Lindy drumming and Amanda playing and later I saw R & G as a duo and with other musicians; all were great but the band never shined harder than with Vickers, Morrison and Brown on board, and then with John W when Robert V left.

      her drumming is iconic. It would not be the same band without her at all

    Some nice McLennan deep cuts here, relatively speaking. Not least "One Thing Can Hold Us" and "Casanova's Last Words". Pretty sure I'd not heard live versions of those somewhat underrated songs.

      This channel isn't monetised, so any ads are usually from music rightsholders. However as far as I can see no music has been claimed in this. So maybe if you see ads it's just UA-cam/Google putting them there to earn even more bucks.

      I really can't think of many better bands Gavin, got first LP in summer 82 , saw them first live in London 85 and many times in Dublin until Grants death, truly exceptional music.

    Great to hear 'To Reach Me' and 'The Wrong Road' performed live :D
    Two of their very best songs lyrically!
    How heavy does 'In the Core...' sound live!?

      Heavy. But strangely Grant doesn't sing the best bit (the middle eight)

    Why are the guitars so soft and drowned out by everything else. I've noticed this on any live Go-between performance, amateur or professional videos and even the reunion shows in the 2000s. Those songs with beautiful shimmering jangle guitars are really lacking live as the guitars are more or less absent. Did someone suffer from tinitus for them to set the guitars so low that even the bass dominates them?

    • @genki2genki

      Because it's a low budget recording, you idiot. Look at the year. Can you imagine the equipment involved? Nah, I guess not. Sheesh!

    • @evanstephen300
      @evanstephen300 Рік тому

      With Spring Rain, Grant looks ready only half-way into the song. I don't know who did the instrument setups, probably the band themselves, not like major bands with an entourage of roadies etc. Missing reverb and delay for sure.
