No longer in prison but still under the supervision of the Probation Service, which is charged with assessing and lowering the risk that former prisoners pose to the public. But something, it seems, is going wrong.
Figures obtained by this programme show that on average, every week a serious offender on probation is convicted of murder.
And in an exclusive interview, a serving probation officer has told us she and her colleagues feel pressure to assess offenders as 'lower-risk'.

The probation service has undergone restructuring by the tory party that has made problems significantly worse. So many POs left or retired as I did under Chris Grayling's transforming rehabilitation policy. It was always doomed to be a failure, putting lives at risk. There was definitely an unwillingness by SPOs to increase the risk rating when the risk was actually increasing.( I was often working at 140% capacity, with over 70 cases instead of the recommended 35). Especially when it came to male offenders with convictions for violence against women. I had an SPO and PDA (training facilitator) who seemed to have little understanding of the high risk that these types of offenders pose and we'd butt heads about it. The fact that the offenders even went to prison at all tells me he was a high risk offenders because that's not usual. Homicide through domestic abuse is the most predictable of homicides but it's not treated with that urgency. The problem isn't just with the probation service it's with sentencing. When the government decided to defund women's refuges, putting more women at risk they were telling us exactly how much they care about victims.

It's a horrible decision based on politics and popularity. The same with the demanded levels in school.
To make their little populist promises possible, they (politicians) need budget cuts and going after the voiceless is fast.
For example, if u lower the standard to pass year, the faster those repeating students are out of ed. inst. and so they cost less.
Same with other situations, lower the standard so more number of expense are out of the sistem provoking savings, such savings go into other areas of populist promises that shouldn't have been done in the first place but are promises the voter wants to hear.
      It's that easy.

Forgive my language but, Jesus f**kin' Christ! GRAYLING! Are they for REAL! This guy couldn't even make sure trains ran correctly without any f**k ups and they, the Tories, put this guy forward to be in charge of the Justice department!? And people are wondering why the probation service is in the disarray it's in NOW!. This man here has raised a few pointers on ways to possible turn things around with the work the service does, particularly the retired probation workers coming back to either help out with the work load or school and advice the new and inexperienced staff who's taken over there mantle but in seriousness, people going on about how bad the probation service is right now may as well save there breath, because their wasting their time. It's going to take years to undo the damage that's been to the service, even if Labour take over after the next election. And this is as a result of the service has been monitored over the last 12 years and that can't be changed overnight. When some progress in change does emerge, because it will have to, the only way to make sure this is to be maintained is if the current government is removed and NOT replaced ever again with another Tory government. I just can't believe it, GRAYLING Where they smoking crack when they made that choice?
Maybe Boris and Gove brought some substances to a cabinet meeting and when decisions like that were made and they thought deciding on serious appointments was a really good idea after taking it!

No need to worry about murders and rapist murdering the streets, we’ve got them in the MET earning a salary and getting a pension.
In this instance it’s not just the government to blame, it’s the culture of the MET and the services thereof. The officers that have been caught fir their crimes are just the tip of the iceberg.

Truly sad times, I think the career used to be taken up by people who wanted to attempt to make a difference, now they take 21yr olds fresh out of university with absolutely no experience or interest in the work and it's no surprise that they struggle to implement any authority on even the youngest career criminals let alone the experienced crims! I also noticed that the C4s viewpoint gave no mention of the extra workload that both legal and illegal immigration has had on the already failing PS? The service has been turned into this woke ridiculous setup we see today and criminals are playing it like a fiddle, expecting their PO to arrange everything for them, beit housing, healthcare or a shoulder to cry and moan on! And all this extra work done by the officer is not reflected in the PS Work-Load-Managment-Tool or WMT where most POs are already well over 100%! Instead the PS seems to be worrying more about how officers should be trained about how they should address a client with ridiculous pronouns ect, more than it is worrying about the clear lack of staff! That's not to say that is the whole problem but it has definitely had its role to play on workload with all the pathetic extra training ect. Also, paying its totally demoralised staff a decent wage, for instance the hard fought for poxy 3% pay increase was a complete insult and especially so to those already at the top of their pay-scale, to further insult their staff they have been told that unless they complete extra training they WILL NOT GET THEIR PATHETIC 3% PAY RISE!!!!

I agree with what is happening, but it is also important for people to do far more due diligence and to take care of themselves by not letting people into their lives with haste. Some females start to live with men they've met online or have not spent much time getting to know. That is ridiculous, especially so if they have children. They also need to carry out background checks and end relationships that show the first signs of DV significant characteristics, e.g., coercive control, bullying, throwing things, threats etc. With so many resources nowadays online there is no reason at all why any woman should assume that a man will be OK just because he sweet talks her or convinces her they have changed and should think twice if they have any kind of criminal past. It is not up to the authorities to live our lives. We need to take greater personal responsibility. The system can only cope so far.
