- Well be going over how to build a custom entertainment stand, using Birch butcher block.
The final stand is 19.5”H x 50”W x 19”D, but of course you can make one as deep, wide or high as you’d like.
Shout out to my sister and her fiancé for letting me use their table saw.

Quick tip: after applying stain, while it's still wet or damp, wipe it off with a lint free rag, going in the direction of the grain. Let dry then reapply a 2nd coat and wipe it off again. It will give a nice even coat without those dark spots.
Love custom stuff. DIY is smart for certain things.
I've been looking at some DIY rustic/industrial low TV stands builds, and this is one of the easier ones to follow, especially with such a simple, functional, and good-looking design. I am thinking of modifying your build to only have one shelf because I want to place this stand in front of my unused fireplace, which as a 2" hearth. Thank you for sharing your build!
Pre stain, Nice bristle brush, or wipe the stain in, which I feel shows more grain. Use a tack clothe to remove dust. More layers of finish. Use semi gloss finish for the first 2-4 coat, then finish with satin finish. Sand with finer sand paper between the final finish coat. Great job and I love the table.
My two hobbies are stereos and wood working. DAMN bud - you know your way around a wood shop!!! GREAT video!!
Thank you! That means a lot, especially since I’m still a noob at woodworking
I'm building a six-foot version right now. I noticed, after I'd ordered them, that the pipes and flanges you link to on Amazon are actually 1-1/4" instead of 1" like you used here. It's turned out okay, though. I grabbed a 1-3/4" forstner bit and went with it since the larger diameter pipe looks good with the 6' butcher block. I also used a spade bit after I got the forstner started because the spade can take out a large amount of the center of the hole much quicker than the forstner by itself. You end up with a lip in the hole that the forstner bit can sit on, and it cuts that lip really fast since the center is already cleared out. Thanks for posting this. I'm excited to see mine all set up.
wow this was really fun to watch and inspiring... now I just need to break this new TV stand I have under my Sony 950G water 75" TV I saw on this channel be reviewed lol. Only thing I would add to this stand is something in the back to hide the wires. Great job man wish I had the skill or talent to do something like this.
Clever - being able to adjust it when you get diff equipment is legit.
The finish turned out great. Love the color.
What a great project!
You should be proud of yourself for getting it done.
I like the simplicity of the design and your matte and stain choices. Good job!
So glad I found this...building one myself.. butcherblock top..perfect
Wowww! This is my father's dream! have a movie theater with an excellent sound system! but unfortunately the economy in Brazil doesn't help: /
Build it piece by piece and go from there. Good luck!
@@ThaVillaMan Yess! :D
U would be surprised how relatively affordable the pioneer Andrew jones speakers are and they sound amazing... you can pick up SP-FS52s for $150 a piece, start with 2 channel stereo and like he said add piece by piece like the villaman said... sometimes you can find good used gear too!
What speakers are those?
Just built one for myself. Made mine a little bigger and different color scheme but came out excellent! Thanks for the inspiration.
Very nice…wish I could make one. Love the butcher block. Great job!! Need more BASS!!!
At least you don't have those fancy tools that some carpenter use because that is their proffession. The way you did it is the way I may end up doing it. Thank you
I like it. Personalizing your system always adds more value to it, imho. I may build a stereo rack with similar aspects.
I swear.. I love watching these videos in 4k hlg hdr
Very nice work, I love the look of the table. I have been watching your videos this weekend and I enjoy your content. I will be subscribing to your channel.
Thanks! It was my first time making something like this but it was a great experience from conception to creation
Came out real clean!
Right? Thanks!
Many of these DIY projects look cheesy. I can honestly say, I really like what you did here. I might actually consider this style of build. Along with using your method to make a taller and not as wide set for Vinyl record storage and turn table stand. Good work man!
Great project video man! That is one gorgeous stand!
Thank you!
i was planning on building a stand just like this. good thing i saw your build now i can make adjustable shelves, the clamps were a great idea
Impressive and beautiful piece!
butcher block? wow. but it's pretty heavy. it's not strange if it's very sturdy when it's converted into a shelf.
You make great videos! I especially appreciate the helpful tips given along the way. A good way to avoid small mistakes that would make this project less than fun :-).
Nicely done, Villaman!
Love that stain. We put the exact same thing on the hard wood floors on the second floor of our house with like 5 coats of glossy poly.
Thanks. Man, that must have taken a while!
Long time watcher, newer subscriber. I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos over the years!
In fact, you have helped motivate me to throw my hat into the home audio/visual ring. Your editing and quality are where I want to get. Just now taking this UA-cam thing seriously, thanks to channels like yours.
I gave you a shoutout in my video with my channel in the name. I hope you don’t mind!
Cheers, my friend and happy listening!
That’s awesome to hear... Thank you and welcome aboard!
I think the more voices and perspectives we have in the community the better it will be. Definitely have to check out your channel now that I know about it!
Tha_VillaMan Can’t have too many honest opinions here on UA-cam. You seem like a cool dude, keep up the great quality and content.
Thank you for the support, my friend. I’ll see you around!
Definitely. Can’t wait to see where you go with it. Good luck!!
I dig it villaman 👍🏼
Man! Beautifully done!!
I just saw the price of the projector and being retired and on disability I have the same chance of getting a Bugatti that I do this projector. This was still very enjoyable to watch and keep on doing thee great videos. My 75 in TCL will have to do for now :)
Looks Nice 2 points #1
Its for home theater so
#2 won't matter. But #2. Is in hifi you should fill the steel legs with dry sand, BB's because added weight
Ringing. Next 1 try it
Ray Charles had entertainment.
Thats a really great Idea, Thanks for sharing!!!
Love this video! In future if you slightly thin the poly slightly you will have a better finish. You will need a few more coats but the viscosity breaks down slightly and you have no bubbles or brush/foam lines. Learned this making a smiling style table
Good to know, thanks!
Looks great and is easy enough to build. I think I'll do this to replace the two IKEA Lack tables my TV is currently sitting on (with a huge gap in the middle).
Looks good, man. Like the style. Definitely understand building your own as most of the 'stands' out there are either crappy MDF boxes that cant actually hold your speaker and gear, to basically small hutches that are too tall with a top shelf made for a sound bar.
You have really inspired me to give this a go, thank you sir
Glad to hear it.. good luck!
A very nice job and great video - Thanks!
Nice work, the only thing I do different and it really doesn't matter, after I sand the wood, I wipe it down with Mineral Spirits, fantastic work!
Good point, thanks! I might do something like that if I tackle another one of those
Looks great! Very jealous but inspired to follow suit with my own version. Really like the idea of it being adjustable. Thanks
Beautiful job ! love the 4khdr. I would think center speaker might vibrate as the middle shelve is only sitting on rings..
Thanks! The shelf alone weighs about 25 lbs, so it’s not going anywhere. It’s very rigid
Very refreshing presentation..u rock..
Thanks
Excellent! Well done!
I know this is an older project, but do those clamps hold the weight of that shelf well? I imagine they would just slide down from the weight of the shelf and anything you put on the shelf. I appreciate your feedback!
Dope diy though I was followed suit with the little joke you made before I get chewed out and spit out 😂
One last step you could do is to finish it with paste wax and wire wool. It takes out the nibs out in the varnish (removes/flattens dust partials and imperfections) and gives it a semi gloss natural lustre, rather than the slightly plastic raw varnish look..
Good to know.. thanks for the tip!
i made similar using granite as the shelves and treaded stud. so each shelve can be firmly pressed by nuts from top and bottom
Omg i love it!
I'm planning on doing one.
Definitely gonna keep this video!
Thanks! Good luck with yours!
Thank you for such a great guide. I ended up making similar items:
-a coffee table with a top and one shelf, left the butcher block (birch) it’s original size.
-a TV stand with a top and one shelf that just sits on the feet with some thick felt pads protecting the butcher block. Left butcher block original size
-4 matching end tables.
The birch butcher block was cheap as it had some dents and dings which I used an iron, t shirt, water to lift the dents out.
-Finish was a Varathane waterbased gunstock color, which is lighter than yours and matches my hardwood floors. I used a pre-stain conditioner as well, which worked well to prevent blotchy staining on such a soft, porous wood.
- I went with Varathane water based polyurethane. 10-12 coats, allowing two hours to dry in between. I also sanded with 600 grain between each coat. Coats started to get smooth with good coverage at somewhere between 6-8 coats (I’d say this is your minimum based on my experience). I waited a week before using the furniture just to be safe. After 6 months, the coffee table finish still looks basically new so the finish is holding up well.
Fantastic job! I'm looking to do something similar to this to get my center channel off the floor as it's below the projector screen and I only have about 2 feet of space to work with.
Looks awesome my friend!
Any one else click on this video in the dark and get blinded by your phones brightness going up to infinity?
Haha sorry, it’s because the video is in HDR
Love this. Going to build one very similar.
Nice! Good luck with it
Fantastic. You have great taste! You could start a business selling these units!
I would buy on win a flash!
Outstanding job. I'm planning a similar project and you definitely provided some inspiration.
Nice job. I'm going to try this.
Great Job, looks awesome.....
Nice work. Brilliantly done. Time consuming but we'll worth it. Wait until you have guests and they say " beautiful stand, where did you get it? Your response "Built it myself 😊😊". That smile alone is worth the time and effort Bruh!!!
Great job Tha_VillaMan. How can I send you a picture of my living room so you can give me ideas of placing my speakers for my Home theater? Thanks
Really nice unit dude!
Good job young man. 👍👍.
Thank you!
Man you rock.
Haha thanks man 🙏🏾
Thank you. Did you just use clamps on the metal rods to hold the middle shelf?
Yup. To hold both the middle and lower shelves
Came out great!!
You did a good job 👍
Bought one of your shirts Looks cool !
Awesome. Thanks for the support!
Great job!
Welcome welcome welcome⚜
You da man! Safety first!
Always!
Looks pretty cool. I’m not a DIY guy but really loved your stand. Nice color too. How much did you end up spending on all the materials?
Thats brilliant! I first wanted to use some brick type stones as legs but now I'd like to build it with the pipes and clamps! Are the clamps strong enough to hold the shelves with the speakers and electronics?
corrections: you added 4 clamps to hold the weight of the middle rack and bottom racks? how reliable they are to hold the pressure of heavy weight stereo gears?
That is awesome!!!!
You have a new subscriber.
Great job!👌 would you have your centre Speaker placed higher, to have it at face to face when sitting down?
Thanks! I can’t place it higher because my UST projector is on the tip shelf, so I have it angled upwards
@@ThaVillaMan ok. My next buy is a centre speaker so I wasn't sure.
Oh ok. Yea, ideally your center channel will be at ear level
Nice job.
Maybe a little hearing protection while using a tablesaw.
Nice. Would appreciate to links to butcher block.
Amazing! This is just what I need. Where is the best place to buy the butcher blocks from? In Texas.
Home Depot should have a bunch
VillaMan - great project, thank you! Where did you buy the butcher block?
Put the Center speaker on the top shelf if all possible!
try a pre-stain next time and machine sand for a better smoother finish I did a dining table that way
Yea? You mean pre-stain with oils?
Good idea on the machine sanding. I had one but didn’t want to go overboard with it
I get confused about the flanges used. My intention for mid to lower racks will hold very heavvy gears like at least 50 ib. Can you tell the 4 flanges can hold the rack and the gear weight? you just tightened the flanges? Can you share the photos please? Thanks
Do you think the metal clamps are strong enough to have multiple equipment on a shelf? Like a receiver and 2 consoles.
Solid brah🤙🏽
Step 1 , be a carpenter.
I’m not tho
Very nice DIY, Villaman. What length pipe did you use?
How much weight will those steel clamps hold each for those middle shelves? Genius!
A lot. I’d wager at least 100lbs. They’re all pretty strong individually.
@@ThaVillaMan I did not realize how heavy those birchwood block tables are. WOW. I'm going to try and find 1-inch thick ones. The reason is I want a 4 tier media console so that will get pretty heavy being upstairs. ☺
Very nice!
Beautiful.🌹👌
I love that shirt color looks great also. I check but u don't have that one.
I am wondering if there is any stand I can buy that is close to your design. I need something that can house a big center speaker.
Do you think this would work well using a 3/4in sheet of plywood instead of butcher block?
Are there any pre-built tv/av receiver stands you would recommend?
Hamza anything from BDI, but they’re expensive
eye protection yes! but gloves are super dangerous on a table saw. keep up the great videos!
So I heard. Thanks for the heads up
@@ThaVillaMan ha! sorry! have other's been preaching at you? i hate to be that person, but if annoying people saves a finger, imma keep doing it! cheers!
No I actually really appreciate it. It’s better to find out from 1000 people seeing this video than to learn the hard way
A little curious...is that back door to your house or front near the entertainment center?
I think I missed it - what feet did you use?
Nice review, but is it possible to watch your videos in SDR? On my iMac screen it looks like all the whites are blown out and makes it impossible to watch and see parts of the video... (look fine on my phone)
You’d have to use a browser which doesn’t support HDR on the Mac
@@ThaVillaMan Ah, I didn't know that Chrome on Mac didn't support HDR. Works fine with Safari. Thanks!
I gotta ask even though you may not answer. What state in NE. Mass here. Love the channel
Can you list the supplies you used
