I love vagabond but no one can convince me the last farm arc was good in fact it’s probably the reason it won’t continue should of been a chapter or two but it’s like a huge chunk of the story of the same thing happening

Farming arc was beautiful but there was something satisfying about Musashi finally beginning to understand what his past teachers were trying to teach, and how much calmer of a person he had become, with a base level of respect for other fighters

I completely agree. For the same reason why Anno got so much backlash for the way he ended Neon Genesis Evangelion, I think many of the people who don't like Farming village ark genuenly don't understand the story and just read the manga for the fight scenes.

Beautiful video. The journey of Takezo to becoming Musashi, back into Takezo once more, thematically accepting the wholeness of himself is so poetic. I love how the story of Vagabond teaches us as people that to be strong is to be kind and appreciative of the world around us and the situations we find ourselves in.
Thanks, and yeah I love the way "strength in kindness" is presented in Vagabond. It's a theme featured in many stories, but in Vagabond it feels distinctly earned because we followed Musashi throughout so much of his life and see how his philosophy changes and becomes more nuanced.
Zen kind of reminds me of what psychologists call the “zone.” The zone is when you focus so much into an activity that you lose your sense of self and time.
Seeing Musashi working the earth was a profoundly interesting experience. People may dislike it because it doesnt have any fighting, but that is one of the peak moments in philosophy. Appreciating vagabond comes from enjoying the journey, at least in my opinion.
One of my favorite parts in the manga is the farming arc when the farmers start singing even while in pain and hunger. It reminded me of The myth of sisyphus by Albert Camus

I think i get it. Takezo’s father had a very outward looking definition of being invincible. Being invincible to him meant being better than everyone else. That’s why he was so paranoid. If even one other person could beat him, then he wouldn’t be invincible anymore. And that is the definition of invincibility that takezo inherited. However, after becoming musashi, through his introspection, he realizes how fleeting and meaningless it is to be invincible if all it means is being better than everyone else. He realizes that being invincible doesn’t rely on other people. It relies on how you see yourself and how you test yourself. Being invincible isn’t killing 70 weaker samurai, it’s climbing a mountain and testing yourself to see if you can. Because zen is about looking inward, not outward. And that is why he couldn’t kill Yagyu. Even if he murdered him right there in his sleep, it wouldn’t matter. Because Yagyu’s invincibility isn’t dependent on whether or not he can be killed by someone else. Yagyu’s invincibility lies within his own mind’s infinity and isn’t affected by other people. So even if Musashi killed him, that wouldn’t make Musashi invincible, because invincibility isn’t about being the best.
I swear it’s a sin a still haven’t touched this story. From friends telling me and watching videos like yours tell me about an extravagant story with an extremely detailed art style prompts me to start. Hopefully I get around to it soon. Love the video

Admittedly, I've only seen one Vagabond video from a small channel since I usually try to avoid watching other people's stuff about things I want to give my opinion on, but whenever I searched "Vagabond manga" on youtube, only a small handful of results would come up, so I thought it would be nice to throw in my 2 cents.
This was an amazing video, Im watching this at probably one of the most challenging times of my life currently and I wanted to say thank you for uploading it and showing and expressing what you took away from this. It made me read Vagabond my self and I love it so far.

What an excellent video. I didn't know it's a meme to hate on the farming arc, it was one of my absolute favorite parts of the manga. So many emotions and profound inner development by Musashi are shown in yet the purest forms, not through killing or realizing the death of his foes, but rather through nature, and accepting that some things can't be changed, and are better off not altered at all.
Yeah it's not a huge deal but for Vagabond and I think Vinland Saga it's a meme to hate on the farming arcs because there's no action, but I'm sure there are people out there who actually hate it for real lol

My friend I must admit that this was truly a wonderful watch! I found myself having to go back in the video multiple times after I realized that my mind had drifted off in thought because of something you had just said or showed and really the video was too interesting for me to accept not listening clearly to each of those few seconds where my mind had wondered. I don't know if messing like that with playback in a video can fuck up the "view" in the youtube algorithm but I truly hope it doesn't because this video deserves to be recommended. I am absolutely a biased observer as I already loved Vagabond (and other works of Takehiko like "REAL") but I must reiterate that this was magnificent. I feel like you’d do a really good job with shedding light on the deeper meaning of the story, along with drawing attention to hidden details that many readers would simply not notice. If you haven’t read it, then I HIGHLY recommend it. It’s one of the greatest manga I have ever read and it really made me step back and take a second to analyze everything going on, not many manga have intrigued me to this extent. Seriously a 10/10.
I actually read it a couple of years ago, but I didn't really vibe with it. I went in blind after a friend's reccomendation, and I was uhh, surprised to say the least lol. I can't see myself doing a video on it at the moment, but it's not totally off the table. I remember liking the story when Punpun was a kid, but after that it kind of fell off for me personally. I know that's kind of the point, but still, I'm conflicted on whether I actually like the manga or not. I just don't think I'd have anything interesting to really say about it. I've read a couple of Asano's other works as well, and I just don't think his stuff is for me.
What’s really interesting about all the themes and stuff that you mention is that some of it is parallel to what Islam teaches like being grateful and perceptive about yourself and bettering yourself
Yeah, I feel like a lot of world religions have at least a little bit of overlap regarding teachings and morals. Always interesting to see stuff like that.

Holy, this video was amazing. I read Vagabond twice already and i really really liked it. It was a fun read with interesting themes but thats were it stopped for me. I love the idea of self discovery but the spiritual undertone is something that i never took too serious. I always related to the idea of proving urself in a society through force. But more in a sense that i have to force myself with my artistic ambitions. Vagabond showed me that this longing for appreciation and notoriety is a part of human nature - not bound by time or place. But I never found Musashi thaaaat interesting despite this knowledge. I think you end up gaining an even greater appreciation for his character when you are into spirituality and like you said, there is a contrast in "why" he fights now vs then. I never knew that buddhism and art are so intertwined with each other and i'm geniunely more interested in reading more into it. I think my next re-read will be even better thanks to you. Really glad to hear it dude, that's why I do this. I think I felt the same way that you did about the spiritual aspect of the narrative and about Musashi as a character my first time reading Vagabond. I didn't understand the spiritual aspects, and I couldn't really relate to Musashi's struggles. But while I was reading Eugen's book, I was constantly thinking of Vagabond and everything started to click. Then when I started re-reading chapters in preparation for this video, it was insane, it was like there was this side to Musashi that I completely missed my first time through.

This is interesting, my childhood was similar to takezo’s so I was never frustrated with him I understood his journey and I know the feeling of wanting to be invincible to never be that weak again to want to face the strongest of the strong to prove you are stronger and to ultimately not understand yourself and feelings because of your childhood. This manga stuck out to me because it was like looking into a bloody mirror.

when i first read Vagabond back in high school, I was exactly like Musashi, angry, hatred-driven. But after experiencing many traumatic events and failing countless times, I finally understand "invincible" or "the best" is merely a title, a label. The art (or the joy) of betterment one's self doesn't lie in becoming the no 1 but it lies in the journey of learning through every step. It is the joy of growing, of opening one's mind to the world.

3:22 all the characters are so alive. The monk Takuan for sure is my favourite. But I also like Takezos friend, the lying samurai, i related a lot because i used to be a lying bastard. And Takezo was like my wild older brother who even being brutal he was my brother and only kind to me.

I'm still reading Vagabond and I can say that this manga changed my perception the life, and the majority about myself.

Yeah, I feel like a lot of world religions have at least a little bit of overlap regarding teachings and morals. Always interesting to see stuff like that.
I keep finding myself revisiting and rewatching this video as I know there's a lesson if not multiple lessons I should take from this maybe there's still somethings I don't understand but still I feel like one day I will understand everything

Holy, this video was amazing. I read Vagabond twice already and i really really liked it.
It was a fun read with interesting themes but thats were it stopped for me.
I love the idea of self discovery but the spiritual undertone is something that
i never took too serious.
I always related to the idea of proving urself in a society through force. But more in a sense
that i have to force myself with my artistic ambitions. Vagabond showed me that this longing
for appreciation and notoriety is a part of human nature - not bound by time or place.
But I never found Musashi thaaaat interesting despite this knowledge.
I think you end up gaining an even greater appreciation for his character when you are into spirituality
and like you said, there is a contrast in "why" he fights now vs then.
I never knew that buddhism and art are so intertwined with each other and i'm geniunely more interested in reading more into it. I think my next re-read will be even better thanks to you.

Really glad to hear it dude, that's why I do this. I think I felt the same way that you did about the spiritual aspect of the narrative and about Musashi as a character my first time reading Vagabond. I didn't understand the spiritual aspects, and I couldn't really relate to Musashi's struggles. But while I was reading Eugen's book, I was constantly thinking of Vagabond and everything started to click. Then when I started re-reading chapters in preparation for this video, it was insane, it was like there was this side to Musashi that I completely missed my first time through.
I would love more vagabond videos, your prespective and how you put things are amazing and helped a lot, I think I'll reread it because of that

This is interesting, my childhood was similar to takezo’s so I was never frustrated with him I understood his journey and I know the feeling of wanting to be invincible to never be that weak again to want to face the strongest of the strong to prove you are stronger and to ultimately not understand yourself and feelings because of your childhood. This manga stuck out to me because it was like looking into a bloody mirror.

when i first read Vagabond back in high school, I was exactly like Musashi, angry, hatred-driven. But after experiencing many traumatic events and failing countless times, I finally understand "invincible" or "the best" is merely a title, a label. The art (or the joy) of betterment one's self doesn't lie in becoming the no 1 but it lies in the journey of learning through every step. It is the joy of growing, of opening one's mind to the world.

After reading the manga in its current entirety, I have to say it’s pretty awesome with its overarching theme of finding meaning in your life.

it was a beautiful feeling, and I've been chasing it ever since.

Vagabond is extravagant, violent, beautiful, philosophical, and simplistic in the most unique way.
Vagabond is a near perfect manga. Literally a 9.9/10
It took hardly 3days to caught up with the manga and I don't regret start to read hoping they'll continue the manga as per authors health issue.

Dude finally someone talking about Vagabond and actually mentions Buddhism. So many people talk about vagabond and it's philosophy yet have no clue what the messages really are, it's all in Buddhism.
I feel like musashi is on a journey to learn to harness his natural adhd and zone out while fighting. Lol. Ive heard of craftsman who completely lose focus when carving birds out of wood and it ends up better if not just as good as there previous best work

3:22 all the characters are so alive. The monk Takuan for sure is my favourite. But I also like Takezos friend, the lying samurai, i related a lot because i used to be a lying bastard. And Takezo was like my wild older brother who even being brutal he was my brother and only kind to me.
