  • I decided to take a look at the front sprocket on the 1994 Honda CBR900RR Fireblade, and it's a good thing I did! The bolt securing drive sprocket was slightly bent. Let's get that changed out.

It looked like the chain was a little loose and rubbing on the frame behind the sprocket

I have my eyes on a 1996 cbr900rr, 11... miles on it and it looks great. I’m looking for a honest answer in the form of, is it a bike I can ride comfortably for years or will after a few months I’ll be ready to get rid of it? I’m 46 and never had a sport bike. Thanks in advance

Hard to tell... Test ride it if possible, or similar type of bike but you are the only one who can decide whether or not it's up to your expectations.
If you mean the bike as 11 miles, it better have been stored in really specific conditions or it's probably ruined by the time it sat where it is. Or it is just a fake odometer number... Or you just meant 11000 miles?

Only noise I could detect was from a worn bearing..... nothing wrong with the chain and sprockets, when swingarm is unloaded on rear stands you'll get excessive noise/ chain hops. I'd start changing oil more frequently and use one that don't shear easily. I use rotella t6 and change by 3,000 miles.... sometimes by 2,500 if I hear bearings slightly start singing lol. Most bikes from factory are just slapped together quickly for sale demand.... safety and quality ain't high on manufacturers priority list unfortunately.

It looks to me, you didn't use the original Honda frontsprocket. The original has a rubberdisk glued on the front and back of the sprocket which reduces a lot of chainnoise.

I have replaced original front sprockets with aftermarket ones without rubber disk on two different Hondas and the noise has been quite bothering at the first. It just takes getting used to.
Using lots of chainlube and letting the gunk build up in the front sprocket area dampens the noise quite alot :D

    Is that a 300zx?

It looks like your chain is trying to jump a tooth, you might have to reduce the chain length by one link, this could end badly in a variety of ways, god bless my buddy

Ive had chains making horrible sounds and its always the chain not the bike itself. ,,my first kawasaki 250 6years ago had 2 chains joined to one (i just bought the bike [WTF- ] and a tight spot in the chain which was causing a horrible sound much like youve got here. brand new chain and problem went away,, yours is trying to jump a tooth from a loose chain or extra long chain not cut to size, hope this helps

Looks like that chain has a kink in it when it goes around the sprocket could have a bad link

Bro did you put it in gear while you un torqued the sprocket?

I held the rear brake to torque the sprocket.

@@PracticalEnthusiast interesting cause I used the screwdriver in between the links after I took the rear wheel off method but I slipped with the wrench last time and think I put 80 flbs on a 40flb sprocket nut... But I'm still diagnosing it and I'm just observing common issues. But in regards to your bike did you ever find out for sure why it does that? I suspect if something bent the bolt than the crank shaft seal "could' be bent and to fix that I think that's way too much work to be worth it to fix. I'd leave it be if it still works and wouldn't eventually buckle. That's my theory anyway.

That noise Came from inside the gearbox, its a shaft bearing.

hey ive got a whining sound coming from my bike im not even sure from where. it gets more high pitch the faster i go and still happens while the clutch is in. any idea. the best i can explain the sound is like a cable running though a pulley.
