    honestly speaking, if companies are going to debut minors they should take really good care of them and know the appropriate concept to give them. I get why companies want to debut younger members because of the younger generation that is growing and getting into kpop and want to create a group that can relate with them but sometimes I question their intentions, new jeans are a perfect example of this cuz at first when I saw attention and hype boy I was like ohh they are going with teen pop and highschool 80's vibe, which will relate to the younger generations which are like from 13-16 but then they brought out music like cookie, which I can't still understand why they would switch to that kind of concept ESP. due to one being 14 and sexualizing the f out of them which makes me sick cos at the end of the your setting a bad example for their young fans and exposing them to pervert and pedophiles.

    I really want there to be an age limit of 18 and trainee age limit to be 13-14, like at least be a teenager when you start so you have gotten those precious 12 years of childhood to yourself.

    The limit should be 18, 17 at least. Like these kids are just getting into high school and have to work. I remember people praising JK when he graduated saying “He missed over 200 days, GPA is .4, and had passed with a D,” like that was a great thing. He left home and debuted in his first year of high school and instead of living those years he had to work for long hours every day. I think he even has a song singing about missing out on his childhood, and you even have idols who dropped out of school to focus on their training or to not have to deal with being an idol and student at the same time. To be honest they're only debuting kids to exploit them because it's easier with a kid that doesn't know better and won't talk back than a teen or adult that know more and would question. Like graduate from high school first bc being an idol isn't a summer part-time job.
    Plus, I can't listen to these newer groups like it feels wrong to fan over kids and that's coming from someone who just turned 18 at the start of 2022. Even for idols that are literally my age or even just a year younger or older, I see them as babies (not like infantilization but like an older sibling looking at a younger one if that makes sense) and can't see them any other way. Then you have people who are like “I like them for their talent,” but start sexualizing them as soon as they turn 18 because “they're an adult,” you even have people who just straight up sexualize them now as a kid, someone confessed to saying “Niki from Enha is the sexiest 16-year old I've ever seen.

    To me, it must be a limit age. They should be at least 18 years, they are being exposed and go thru a lot more, not only it is a job, industry it's so messed up. 19 is ideal age to debut. You can be a trainee before but pls let em study and have a life, they dont need to train for 10 years, even if it's their dream. It's a job before.

    5:41 Younger idols seem to be favorable by companies as they stay in the teenage age for slightly longer. For example, if you debut a 16 year old right now, they’ll probably be 23 years old by the time their contract expires. Unfortunately, Idols tend to be less popular as they get closer to 30 years old. My guess is that the company wants the group to have more longevity and relatability to teens, who are the biggest demographic in Kpop. Teens often are able to stream music videos and buy albums compared to adults who have to work for their money and are usually too busy to stream music videos.

    We hire child actors for young characters. Because it makes sense that these roles cannot be played by older people. But, those child actors cannot do certain scenes that involve sexualization, violence or suggestive dialogues and poses.
    Idols are actors who can also sing and dance. Debuting an underage idol isn't wrong. But they must also be given the same treatment as the child actors. That's exactly what isn't happening today.
    Today, underage idols are treated like adult idols and are exploited. But this problem can be solved.
    There's another unsolvable issue that I have seen in both movies as well as the idol industry which is the sudden sexualization of a person from childhood to adulthood. A child actor who is viewed as a cute innocent child until they hit puberty and people start viewing them as a sexual person. They may not even have done anything suggestive, romantic or sexual. But the fact that they have grown into their features and are now more appealing attracts viewers. Even Hollywood actors like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and singers like Billie Eilish faced this.
    But, what could be the possible solution for the second problem? Nothing I suppose.

    people saying 18 as if kids don't get jobs at 15+ imo they should have a 15+ age limit if they are old enough to get a job they are old enough to train/ debut as being a idol is also a job that can be chosen. Korea in general however still has better labor laws then other countries to take care of their youth. as we've seen how bad and how good being young in the music industry can go. ex~ beyonce, JT, mj, Brittany. I think companies should def protect them from sns better however

    Where are the parents of these kids my gosh?
    Also I think one of the reasons they choose very young idols is that they can use them for more time, for example if an idols debuts at 14 + a 7 year contract, they will be 23 when the contract ends, so they will still be very young and profitable

  • @1co293

    Age limit should depend on where the idols health is more important to take care of, like 40? But when it comes to idol being too young I believe people should be at least 17 to be an idol. You got 11 and 14 year olds training when they should be going to school and experience there youth but it gets ruined because of being an idol at such a young age

  • @crudlucasconsigliere4084

    I really think that debuting minors is WAY too young. I watched Chuang 2020 (Chinese produce series) and the youngest contestants were 18, but they still had that adorable little sister appeal that companies are trying to go for with the really young idols. We don't need to be scooping these kids out of middle school.

  • @ingusch3783
    @ingusch3783 Рік тому +4

    Personally, a huge difference between child actors and children debuting in music groups is that for the former, I understand the necessity. When you make a movie, it would be weird to never see children in the background, or to never have a child amongst the cast - children exist and thus are understandably needed to act in movies sometimes. With children (especially kids under 16) in music groups - why? There's no need! If you really have a talented performer at your hands and they happen to be too young, wait! Two years or three years aren't going to ruin the talent, on the contrary, they can hone it even more. There is no reason for having 13-15-year-olds performing in music shows, especially not with a sexy concept. Since companies apparently can't be bothered to protect their young artists, that'd be the alternative, right?!

    A lot of people think Kpop companies are debuting younger and younger idols, but it's always been that way - you're just getting older and realizing that new idols are younger than you. But when Taemin debuted in SHINee and Krystal debuted in F(x), Sehun debuted in EXO, they were also the same age as the maknaes of the latest groups. And not every group follows this rule, Aespa and Tempest are good examples of groups without minors

    I think before accusing agencies for debuting young or teenager people we should love and appreciate adult or 30+ male and female idol. Specifically female idol. Frankly speaking older idol don't get equal love and attention as young idol. Generally young idols work gets more stream than any old idol. Even in maximum groups younger members are more popular than older members. So for companies who are here to make money will debut younger idol because people give them the most attention. Before saying they shouldn't debut young people, first we should give love and attention to existing old or 30+ idols. Then companies will consider about age limit untill then they will continue to debut young and minor people.

    We all know one of the (if not the main reason) reasons companies debut very young idols is because their image and age sells better. While not all kpop stans and fans are weird sickos, there are a lot of perverted people out there that "stanned" these groups with very young idols. The companies know this and they use it to their advantage. It happens in every industry, acting, sports, singing, dancing, etc. These industries thrive and make a pretty penny by selling youth and innocence in a marketable and "legal" way. It's disgusting and can have a negative impact on the development on these kids. However, I don't see this practice ever ending.

    • @hannahchavez6
      @hannahchavez6 Рік тому

      Which brings up another concern... Where are these kids parents? Why are these parents allowing their barely teenage children to participate in these activities? Why did Tzuyu's parents allow their 16 year old daughter (at the time) to make that provocative and highly inappropriate (for her age) dance video? Why are these parents allowing their 12, 13, and 14 year old kids to debut in an industry that has shown time and time again they over sexualize youth? Why are these parents allowing their 8, 9, and 10 year olds to attend training classes to become idols? So many questions and concerns go unanswered and unresolved. However, there is one thing that is for sure and that's this all starts with the parents. These young idols need parental permission.

    I mean, debuting in 13,14,15,16 is dumb for me to call them "idols" not hating in my opinion we shouldn’t called them idols cuz they are new youngbees there is no way that they should be call as "idols" cuz we mean idols to those persons who are like Bts, psy or iu. I mean experienced, successful, inspirational persons that has gone Through a lot, those persons who really makes sense they are real "idols"?. Why do they even call those underage 14 year old newbees idols. What they even gone Through? No hating seriously but It's really dumb to call them "idols". They still Don't know the world yet, they debuted but still for me they are trainees. Yea it’s a good thing that they are hardworking at such young age. But still they aren’t deserves the title of idols. Imagine calling a 14 year old " idol" it’s so dumb why should we call them idols?they still Don't know how the world actually works. They still have to learn a lot. I know how the Korean age system works, and yes, sometimes 18 year olds are adults - like in Wonyoung's case now, but when she turned 18, she was still a minor (19 in Korean age)
      It's just that in Korea, a year gets added on January 1st, not on the person's birthday.
      You're considered 19 in Korean age, on January 1st of the year you turn 18 (internationally). So in 2022, any and all people who turned 18, were still underage. Korean people also can't drink until they're 19 in international age.
      For example, people born 2002 became adults in Korea on January 1st, 2021.
      2003 became adults in 2022.
      2004 in 2023
