That military service was timed perfectly. With the world on lockdown, they couldn’t do concerts anyway. And by the time this pandemic will be winding down, that member will be out of military service. We have a saying in Germany, “Glück im Unglück,” meaning being lucky even if you were unlucky/in a bad situation.

BM said in the "Dive Studios podcast" that KARD was basically a miracle. It was like a ditch effort from the company to debut something but they were ok if it flopped. Basically, he told the company CEO that he wanted to leave the company as a trainee (of maybe 5 years?) bc he didn't know if it was going anywhere and he wanted to do his own thing and figure it out. He'd pay back the trainee debt too--but the CEO said to give her 1 month to figure something out. AKA KARD was born lol. Hopefully they get a music show WIN one day. I really do like the CO-ED concept.
BM actually went through a really bad breakup, and just wanted to ditch everything - his ex, his traineeship, his life in Korea.
Thank goodness the CEO asked him to be patient a while longer.
And, like you said, KARD was born.
One of the best things DSP ever did, in my opinion.
Yeah, it is noce to have a co-ed group. Lots of co-ed groups have done well over the years in the western markets. They defi itely have the talent. Let's hope they get a win after they reunite!
I think Jiwoo was asked to sing Oh Na Na in her audition and because they liked how well she mixed with the rest she was acepted.

I feel like with the money the company gaigned they could promote them more efficiently in Korea and make them have a number one
I honestly don't think its a promo thing, I really think its cause they just don't fit whats expected, in vocals, coed and music.

@@lorriwbu idk if youve really looked into a lot of articles regarding this issue but i’m aware that not really? if you have then you’d know the lack of consistency of what the rest of the april members said and they’re just going back and forth digging their own graves and saying things that just doesn’t make any sense.
They are popular to Latin countries. It just that Co-Ed Group and Kpop with Western style doesn't fit for Koreans and other asian countries.
It’s crazy how KARD is so popular overseas than in Korea. I do wish they were more popular there bc I know they really want that. Can’t wait till JSeph is done with the military, all of them are doing solo work. Saw them live at LA and they were amazing!

Yeah trueee, I from Italy and I am not a big fan of Kpop but I discovered them yestarday and They are already becomed my favorite group and I am OBSESSED with them

@@kun7288 kpop is very popular in Chile and Peru. In fact twice did a show in Chile in 2018 and Mexico in 2019. iTunes and Spotify are changing the picture. 22 % of Spotify users are in Latin America now, and the numbers are increasing.

I feel like a little tidbit of info that would have been great to add would be that while J.seph is in the military, they're all doing solo stuff in the meantime since they don't want to promote Kard as incomplete without J.seph! BM said this in his Get Real podcast.
As of now, BM has released his solo project (check out "Broken Me" and "13IVI" by BM!), Jiwoo is doing a lot of modelling gigs, and Somin used to be active on her UA-cam channel called 'Minny J 소민'!)

I'm not a fan of KARD but I enjoy listening to their songs specially those songs before the official debut. And I can't believe that they haven't won in music shows yet because I know that they have a huge fan base and they are so popular. Hope to see them win their first trophy soon.

Latin America is a huge kpop consumer since waaaaay back. We are more used to listen to songs in diferent languages than in the USA. Idk why is never considered 😭

I HATE how practically everyone skips over You & Me - EP! That mini album is a true gem and my favorite EP thus far! I love all of their EP’s, but that just always makes me have the feels to the max!! Not a single song can be skipped, that’s how great it is.
You & Me is honestly one of their greatest creations 😭😭 There is something about the whole mini album that has such a feel to it and you’re right there are literally no songs to skip over with how good each one is. I still listen to that whole masterpiece to this mf day 😩

@@biswajeetpillai1202 the only reason Koreans doesn't like Everglow is because of their company YueHua Entertainment which is a Chinese company and Koreans doesn't like China that much, I am pretty sure when Everglow start releasing songs in Chinese and Japanese, Korea will eventually hop on the wagon + plus it's kinda hypocritical of them because Koreans support WOODZ and Yena from IZ*ONE 💀 and no it's not that Everglow's concepts are bad

I'd like to add how BM (or Jiwoo i'm not sure) has said that it's really hard to be a co-ed group because a lot of producers and choreographers refuse to work with them because they only do GG's or BG's

I think it's a large part of why he got into composing and producing.
So KARD wouldn't need to rely on external talent, and could self-produce.
Yeah BM did mention that he made "Dumb Litty" to fit all the members equally. Not a gg or a bg song just... a song. I remember being so proud of him for that lmao.
But they have managed. Their choreos are diferent, the girls get to be sexy and powerful and the boys too

I think if Jiwoo wasn't on kard she'd be the famous girl crush idol. She's absolutely and utterly amazing. Hopefully one day, everyone knows who she is and what she's capable of.

i love how their entertainment treat them I mean with all the timings and stuffs, it was not rushed and they really did calculated how they can create their impact and even build a fandom even before they officially debuted.
they are well treated but not well-promoted. They are a senior grp with Significant presence in world kpop scene. the members are respected withing Kpop industry but They are never sent to kpop idol reality shows.
They never been to Weekly Idol , Idol999 , studio choom etc. korean people use these shows to check out new groups. KARD's lack of promo in korea is affecting them man..DSP/RBW NEED to realize that.

Yo so if jseph comes back early next year they should definitely have a comeback by next summer. Their summer tracks are their best work and they should definitely return with a blast.

It's DSP's fault for not giving someone who actually cared and wanted to be in that group the leader role. Plus she also was never mentioned as one of the bullies by Hyunjoo or her brother. So I don't think Somin really knew what was going on in that group.
KARD announced a summer comeback in 2022 now that J.seph is back 👏🏼👏🏼 REJOICE
Knowing that their success relies mostly in their international fans makes me want to support them more. I can't believe I was there ever since they released their first song. Usually when I start to follow a group they're already quite famous and with quite a few songs
i remember how everyone was skeptical about when kard debuted, but seeing them now, I'm so glad they made it. They are the ONLY co-ed group who has even made it this far. Even other smaller co-ed groups like co-ed school never made it past their 1st year, much less even survive past their 1st comeback. Seeing KARD now, it makes me so proud that I was there since Oh Na Na because they always give quality music.
I hope that they'll at least get their 1st win someday, but I just want them to still be here years and years down the line so I can see them in person. Even if Korea never notices them, at least they're still stars worldwide.

There is ONE Co-ed group that actually has made it but they are brother-sister - AKMU is the exception

I guess the good news is that since only 1 member of KARD has to do military service, it'll be a relatively short wait until their next comeback. Some groups are gone as long as 4 years while multiple members do their duty.

Frebuary 2023. They had an amazing comeback with "Ring the Alarm" and J.Seph show the world how to rock the militar cut. The girls looks amazing as always and BM has his solo debut and in general they delivered art again. ❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜

They were on a hiatus for almost a year and I was worried that the titkok rumor where "if they didn't receive a music show win, they'll disband" and them actually being MIA worried me that they disbanded. Well have to wait a little more for a comeback unfortunately :(

It pains my heart how Korea sleeps on this talented group!! Their songs are SO good and the members are so charismatic! I feel like in part it’s because their company immediately send them abroad to start touring and didn’t promote them in korea so they weren’t able to be known. But South America LOVES them! Hopefully they get their first win soon!

2)Somin not only cleared her name, she went to Lee Mujin Service to Show the wprld her vocal flare.
3) KARD came back with their most successful comeback ever with RE

Kard by some how made it and surprised us all, its so hard for groups with such concept of mixed groups both males and females to succeed, maybe as a sub unit more than a unit

I really like kard. I first heard of them in bomb bomb era and I always check them since. They're a fresh change in kpop. We don't see many coed groups, so seeing how female and male idols work together in one team is something tbh. Plus, Mathew is wholesome he's my bias.
They and Dreamcatcher are still going strong besides having no win after 5 years of debut thanks to the international fanbase.

Just wanted to let you know Somin was also the leader of April when they first debuted before leaving the group after a few months. So she has technically debuted in two groups before Kard.

@@lunacxx1330 The bullying apparently goes back to the predebut days which means somin was involved but just hasn't been doing it as long as the others. Even though nothing has been proved yet she's still being named as one of the bullies.

Do u think all the members just start sat around one day and started bulling hyunjoo from day 1? No. It happened much later. And bulling starts from 1 and others follow it slowly. What hyunjoo faced was really terrible but let's not involve people who were not even present. Hyunjoo has not said anything about somin. But she has mentioned other members. Y do u think? If a victim finally gets the courage to confront the abusers, she is going to expose everyone and not sheild anyone. Just like the recent Mina aoa case. She also mentioned other members but not the ones that left. Most of the time the people who leave are not involved and are on the victim side. Y would a leader leave if she was so comfortable? Bullies like being with their victims because they start power tripping. She was the leader, it would have been very easy for her to cover bullying and take part in it. She would not leave. It's not logical at all.
I only know KARD because i saw the BM neck slice video, i might start listening to them now though. They seem like a fun group.
I love that you point them as a sucessfull group, because they are, here in Brazil every time they come on tour they are on big tv shows, they are REALLY huuuuuge here, singing in portuguese, making tours in a Lot of places
Dsp should promote them in their country. When one of their songs or the group is mentioned in a popular Korean show their songs (especially oh nana) start rising in the Korean charts. I truly believe that if their company promote them more they would be more successful in Korea. They deserve a lot of success and their first win... Also, where is their lightstick dsp? The love I have for KARD is like that of an old friend. I find solace and happiness in their music and journey into the world. I hope more people will continue to support KARD
One thing I've learned in the last year of really getting into various Korean music and artists. If your own people don't like you, go find other people! There are idols who aren't viewed as good looking in Korea, but the international fans can't get enough of their looks. There are idols whose music isn't popular in Korea, but are selling so many albums internationally. The world is a big place. I'm sad that they haven't won any awards at home, but, they are very successful in so many other aspects.
Kard are like Loona, Everglow, Dreamcatcher and Ateez Big International but small in Korea
I think Korean people always prefer a certain concept for a kpop group.
And those groups which are decided to go outside of the concepts (example: Ateez everglow, dreamcatcher etc. Just like you have said) Stays underrated in Korea. But thanks to their international fans who keeps the smiles in their face.

There were a loooooot of co-ed groups in the 90s. Cool, Roo'Ra, Two Two, Sharp to name a few.
There was one to debut last year but I think they already disbanded

I think it's worth noting that 2 months before Kard officially debuted, another co-ed kpop group had debuted, Triple H. Which consisted of two members of Pentagon and Hyuna, who ofc is a kpop legend, so I can definitely see that being a case where the korean gp focussed more on Triple H as a coed group than Kard, given that all members were already known and it was from a much bigger company. So it makes sense why Kard had more trouble being known in Korea, they definitely had really stiff competition.

Alas, wins are not determined by the company. I'd be ready to sue the entire industry for not taking more risks and making groups like these more of the norm.
DSP could be doing more to help them, especially with the trouble they are having elsewhere with their groups.
When BM said that their latest comeback was crucial because of company finances, that broke my heart because that just shouldn't be. The pandemic hit everyone hard, but if any group is pandemic-proof it's these guys. You have amazing potential on your hands. Get them on a Zoom call with their international fans and figure it out.
But ultimately I've decided that k-pop companies are mostly trash, mismanage all of their talent, and if any groups are successful, it's because of the group themselves and despite their company. Here's hoping that KARD can persevere.

@@missright9159 The entire kpop industry is either a gamble if you're a small company or a free win based on superficial popularity if you're a big company. The stories of "good promotion and hard work leads to success" are SO RARE the only one I can think about is Mamamoo. Everybody else is just getting free fame without doing shit (Aespa) or working their ass off and eating dirt (Dreamcatcher, KARD, etc.) Most of this has very little to do with marketing or budget or talent, it's either a group with a free advantage from a big company's already established popularity, or something that people just magically happen to relate to at the moment (Weeekly's After School, the return of Brave Girls, etc.), was ROlling bad in the past and good today? No it's the same song, but because there's a social media push people jump on the band wagon. Apply the same logic to any group that starts off a step ahead because of reasons unrelated to their actual release and you get this weird storm of "undeserved" fame that they would NEVER HAVE if they were part of a company that didn't live rent free in knetz head.

Korean netizens immediately lashed out whenever there is a bullying scandal but pay no attention to co-Ed or artists when they don’t have any scandals. Also, there were so many inconsistencies and factors that made it super difficult with the case. We just all hope everything was resolved

Co-ed groups just don’t have a lot of luck. Look at Checkmate. They pretty much just debuted and they’ve already lost two members with no explanation... Co-ed groups deserve better.

Most of these groups predominantly have female fan bases that either find the girls to be relatable or the guys to be attractive. By having a co-ed group, you’re breaking that because it only further promotes shipping/dating rumors and the girls can’t imagine the guys falling in love with them. This makes the women in the group seem like a threat. And from the male fan perspective, a lot of guys don’t like supporting women (they’re definitely missing out though). So, they’re ok supporting groups like EXO, NCT, Monsta X, TXT, etc, But groups like Blackpink, Twice, Red Velvet, or men who aren’t afraid to show their feminine side like BTS are considered “bad” and you look “uncool” if you support them. Because of this, co-ed groups aren’t supported because of both the female members being present and the male members not exhibiting toxic masculinity.
Because of issues like this, these groups can’t follow the conventional marketing tactics to get them publicity. They could try strategies like what Cube did with Troublemaker (in that, I mean acting like there’s romantic interests within the group). But that usually fails pretty badly.
Personally, I think that a co-ed group would work really well with a lot of members. There was this group called “In10sity” on the X Factor USA and they were a co-ed group with 10 members. They gave off the feel of just being a bunch of friends making music together. That’s very relatable and can be marketed. By having these groups of only 4 members (2 of each sex), it honestly looks like an over glorified double date. I think that companies need to start making these groups with 6-12 members.
KARD are in demand in Malaysia. They were invited several times to concert here. Never bored of their iconic song, Oh Nana.

Kard is very popular in Brazil and Latin America. Before the pandemic, they used to come here every year. We give them so much love and they always retribute in their concerts, singing covers of popular songs of each country. I just hope they can become even more popular. They deserve the world!

I was a fan of soomin ever since she was on the show baby Kara even though she didn't win, then when she was in the group April which I see why she left and as soon as she left we was in KARD. Best thing she ever did.
sorry to tell you this but she left after she started the bullying (Hyunjoo) and the other members tagged along because she was the eldest member and the leader. She obviously didn't want to be later exposed as the bully but people only seem to care about the April member's bullying. This is coming from who's bias in KARD used to be Somin and stanned April.

back in 2018, I remember having watched a performance video of them at a summer festival in Korea and the public was leaving and being really idle/quiet because they didn't know who they were... Back then it really hurt me because they don't deserve it.
But i've been really proud of them since their pre debut songs, for a group that was most likely a shot in the dark, they managed to get the spotlight in the international scene and their career is nothing to be ashamed of, they have a loyal fanbase, they were able to meet their fans multiple times thanks to multiple tour and they have a high quality discography with high quality visuals (also their stylists are really no jokes imo).

I don't know if Kard will get bigger in Korea until Somin is 100% cleared in the whole bullying scandal. For those who don't know: Somin is a former member of April and was around for the period in which Hyunjoo, another former member, was bullied. Somin hasn't been implicated specifically but we all know that netizens don't need proof to ruin a person's career. Most international fans don't even know Somin was in April and so wouldn't connect her to what's going on.
