Preheat oven to 400 degrees ( I know I said 425 in video . but 400 will allow the cornbread to cook thru without burning or taking way too much time)
INGREDIENTS:
3 cups prepared corn bread mix ( not sweet cornbread mix.. just regular cornbread mix )
4 eggs
2 cups butter milk ( if the batter seems a little stiff add an additional 1/2 cup more.
1/2 cup melted buttered shortening ( plus 1/4 cup more to add to skillet to cook cornbread. I added a little more to the skillet after I added the melted shortening to the mix.. I placed the skillet back into the oven with additional 1/4 cup shortening to heat the skillet.. if you want a nice crust please do not forget to preheat your skillet or oven safe dish*
1 stick butter
To make the brown sugar mix:
1 1/2 sticks melted butter
1 cup brown sugar
* Cooking notes *
Please adjust cooking time as needed .. I baked my bread in 30 mins or so.. but it may take more cooking time or less depending on your personal oven. please check bread after 25 mins of baking and adjust cooking time, if the batter is still running in the middle.. add additional cooking time in increments of 5 mins
