Wow! What great players... Al probably on a demo guitar too! His rhythmic chops are so underrated.

I was right there. The camera must have been about 4 feet from me. 25 years later UA-cam finds me with this?

a buddy of mine bumped into dimeola once in an airport in germany (might have been frankfurt) and ended up having a few beers with him, in between Al asking the service help if they recognized him/knew who he was as my buddy did so so should they, the two of them pounded back some more brews,,as it was time for my buddy to go, he gave Al his card with the intent to stay in contact if he (Al) was ever in the area, Al without asking took the card signed the back of it and handed it back to my buddy!! we still get a kick outta that story!! safe to say Al thinks pretty highly about himself..

Ok.. his synth tone .I haven't heard all of his albums .Henderson ,is from the Weather Report school . The thing i like about DiMeola is the blend of Funk/Jazz /and latin rhythm ,as well as a sense of harmony ,over the span of his career you see how the "Schooled " musician keeps unfolding a style .I like Mac Alpine ,too he claims to be heavily influenced by A D ,it really shows on his first CD .Later with Brunel in CAB ,was VG also .Brunel is amazing in CAB ,great interaction.Great stylists

I get that from Stern ,too. The counter point basslines in his ballads are really nice ,i don't dig 100% of what he does ,but at a certain point music is based on concept, and hearing different approaches from many players ,is a very good thing

does anyone know what type of guitar he's playing here?

Metheny can play straight up mainstream jazz ,he may even have more technique than Scofield or Stern .You never hear him hit an overdrive pedal ,i guess he didn't care much for Hendrix or Miles, Weather Report didn't even have a guitar

Now DiMeola uses midi and gets killer Rhythm tones .Why doesn't Frank Gambale do that . You always see frank using some lame dry rhythm tone the gets a good lead tone and flattens everybody . DiMeola has been doing MIDI from day 1 .I saw a clip of Egyptian Danza where his ovation goes back and forth between sounds it even sounds like a Les Paul going through a Marshall .DiMeola has a great ear for tone and Timbre of all music so god bless NJ
