I read all three books of The Discovery of Witches and highly recommend that you quit, lol. Do not continue if you didn't vibe with the first book. It somehow gets worse, imo. But, yes! Slewfoot! My favourite Brom book is The Child Thief; it was my first Brom, and now I buy everything he writes.
Oh, I LOVE the spread for Slewfoot, what a contrast between "theme" and book (also "they lost the farm bc the brother was a d*ck" hahahaha *dead*) *Mexican Gothic* is AMAZING. So glad you loved it.
i just got a BEAUTIFUL new A&O notebook in the mail and i’m so excited to start my first reading journal! it’s green with books and coffee on the front - so perfect. your spreads are always so inspiring and i can’t wait to see your 2024 reading journal setup!! ❤️📚
I totally agree with your description of A Discovery of Witches. I hated how helpless Diana was and how dependent she was on Matthew for her survival considering that they just met. I never read the rest of the series, but I've heard from a co-worker that it gets better.
I highly recommend The Hacienda and Vampires of El Norte, both by Isabel Cañas, if you're ever looking for something with similar vibes to Mexican Gothic
I've read the Discovery Of Witches trilogy (or forced myself through it) and hated the second book - honestly if you didn't like the first one, I don't think they get better!
I loved Slewfoot! It was one of my favorite books I read last year. Brom is an artist, and I really recommend reading his books on paper. He makes the most amazing illustrations for the characters!
I read both The Hacienda and Mexican Gothic and I still can't stop thinking about them. They are brilliant! If you like scary books, l recommend The House on the Hill by Elizabeth Hand.
Beautiful spreads as always! I agree on Discovery of Witches, really didn't vibe with the first and never bothered with the others. I loved Mexican Gothic too though, and am super intrigued by Slewfoot. I've seen it mentioned quite a bit but don't always enjoy historical set books (I just have to be in the right mood) but your description has persuaded me to add it to the TBR. ❤
I actually 100% agree about Assassin's Blade! I'm reading the books for the first time this year and I did read it after book 2, since book 2's ending didn't leave me wanting to jump at the next one right away it felt like a good place for a breather and to fit this one in. It's not that it was bad, it was just sort of dull compared to the main story books and I also felt like, since you know from book 1 that Sam dies, I kept waiting for it to happen in all the stories involving him. I couldn't really feel invested in his and Celaena's relationship either because I just kept waiting for his death😅 Maybe that factored into why I didn't really feel their chemistry either, the spark just wasn't there for me. The two stories not involving Sam were my favourites and felt like they were setting stuff up more, as well.
I just finished Slewfoot and loved it. Mexican gothic was also amazing. If I were you I wouldn’t pick up the sequel of A discovery of witches. I really liked the first one, but hated the second one.
I loved this video Hedda each spread its so beautiful 😍 also you made me laugh few times 😂 always so enjoyable❤ loved all the advent calendar bags behind you on the intro 😂❤
I gave Slewfoot a 3.75/5 star and I enjoyed it more then I thought I would and I may read it again but I may listen to it on audio instead of physical this time.
I got through the first and second books in the Discovery of Witches series, and I couldn't continue. The choices made in the second book made NO sense to me, and I liked Diana even less at the end. A lot of people love the series, but I would say that if you already don't like it after finishing the first book, you're better off skipping the rest.
Been listening to your videos as background noise for when I'm writing my own novel and I have to say I disagree with you on the not liking books because you don't like the characters! I don't mean to come off as rude but how can you read a book, dislike the characters, but still continue to read it! The characters make up the story so if the characters aren't well written or how I think you're trying to say it: aren't morally righteous which-can be done well but only if we know why they're this way and that them being this way means they're not good people which is most people's issue with Colleen hoover-she writes books which are labelled as romance but then puts sa and borderline domestic abuse in her books and puts it as relationship struggles. The way I see it is: No like characters, no like book and the only exception is a super duper epic fantasy with world building better than L.O.T.R! Honestly though, mad respect to you for judging books based off of other aspects,I don't know how you do it but mad respect for it anyways!
I also read the trilogy. I liked the first one really well. The second one was meh, and I hated the third. It's also been made into a tv series, which I watched a little of and it made me hate the main character even more. For anyone who wasn't super invested in the first book, I'd skip the rest.
I usually LOVE these kinds of themes (no clue how many times I've listened to ACOTAR), but I watched the discovery of witches TV show and man the acting was AWFUL and I the actress really made me dislike the main character, too! But more importantly the storyline also just felt so overdone and unoriginal and not explained very well and just kinda lame lol
Don’t waste your time on the rest of the “Discovery” trilogy. I’ve read them all and imo they don’t get any better, I kept thinking that they would and there’d be a pay off…but no. I found the character of Diana irritating beyond belief and Matthew had no appeal for me either.

I felt EXACTLY the same way when watching the A Discovery of Witches TV show, and I haven't read any of the books. It really fell short!!
You definitely need to read the trilogy of the discovery of witches. She comes into her powers and it gets much better.
Oh, I LOVE the spread for Slewfoot, what a contrast between "theme" and book (also "they lost the farm bc the brother was a d*ck" hahahaha *dead*)

I highly recommend The Hacienda and Vampires of El Norte, both by Isabel Cañas, if you're ever looking for something with similar vibes to Mexican Gothic
Thank you!☺️ I read The Hacienda last year, which is why I read Mexican Gothic this year🥰

Maybe you would like Robin Hobb's "The Farseer Trilogy" 😊

These spreads were so lovely! I also laugh at how your "simple" spreads still have so much going on!
I always look forward to a new reading update from you. Your spreads are always amazing and we also have similar reading taste
I just finished Slewfoot and loved it. Mexican gothic was also amazing.

Where do you find your stickers? They are amazing
I haven't even gotten into the journaling part yet, I just HAD to comment on the earrings: absolutely gorgeous! Where are they from?
Oh aren’t they cute!! I was so excited when I found agavedesigns.no because she makes such cute earrings, and is located in Norway!😍

“Because her husband’s brother is a dick”… 🤣 love you Hedda and totally agree!
