- There were multiple deadly shootings across the country yesterday. Whitney Austin is a survivor of a 2018 shooting in Cincinnati, Ohio where she was shot 12 times. She joined Richard Lui to share how she is now combating gun violence with activism.

I think we need to concentrate on reducing the level of violence in total. This past week we have seen violence involving guns, we have also read about violence involving multiple stabbings, and we have read about violence involving motorist under the influence of alcohol who have run into and killed multiple people. We need to look at the level of total violence.

It's only when hunting feral hogs that I've seen civilian necessity for having high-capacity magazines in high caliber semi-autos. I'm sure there are other hunting scenarios, I've only owned guns for a short while.
We need to take hunters' opinions more seriously, and also realize it's not just trust fund puds like Don Jr & Eric posing next to freshly-hunted zebras or cape buffalos. Some hunting is necessary. It doesn't have to be to be ethical or legal, either. People afraid of the realities of hunting need not share their opinions.
But constitutional right or not, something gun owners need to admit personally is this "come & take it" chest thumping is just ego. Most wouldn't make it past their local SWAT or ERT teams. They should also be prepared to know the difference between a law they dislike and actual 'tyranny'. Hyperbole doesn't help. Giving one inch doesn't mean it's a steady slide to communism. If proposed legislation is misguided (such as, gun A is illegal, but gun B does the exact same thing as gun A but it's legal), it should be off the table. Approach it knowledgeably. Even avid hunters know that some of the power they wield is often cosmetic or at least unnecessary. TLDR: We need to talk to each other & take each other's opinions seriously. The NRA should no longer be allowed to buy senators/congresspersons. Agree with them or not, that's a very dangerous, undemocratic hole in the boat They feed misinformation & promote propaganda to the point where we can never truly have discussions.
Perhaps a semi-auto rifle in calibers that pierce police body armor shouldn't just be sold to just anybody? Perhaps magazine capacity should be limited unless you're on an actual feral hog hunt? Perhaps more warrant-free inspections for those with more than X # of guns, or those who've had recent violations? Whatever keeps them out of the wrong hands.
Oh, and if someone's banned from owning one but are still caught with a gun, stop bonding them out. Running out of jail space? Build more jails.
A right is a right and it's not up for debate.
If you want the shooting to stop
Put the ten commandments back in classrooms.
Teach these people to fear God and respect others
Stop creating and encouraging programs that require father's to be absent from the home.
Stop glorifying promiscuous behavior in movies and music
Stop having disdain for law enforcement and respect the police, obey the commands during a traffic stop.
Only a fascist, totalitarian government wants to disarm it's citizens and use moral decay as an excuse to do so.
SWAT officers are not immune to bullets and they have families they want to go home to also. You hear about cops getting shot and killed because of the moral decay all the time now

Suicide is not gun violence, and should not be counted the same as true gun deaths. Do we count drug suicides the same? is that counted as drug violence? Knife? drownings? all the OTHER ways to commit suicide? No, with good reason.
1) there are people who support euthanasia ( suicide is a part of euthanasia)
2) there are MANY reasons for suicide, and to try to class them the same is wrong
3) a gun is not really the best choice for it, because people make mistakes, and living with a gunshot is many times worse than whatever was driving your suicide wish in the first place.
I am not suggesting guns FOR suicide, I am simply saying that it is NOT VIOLENCE and should not be lumped with the true stats for that. Personally I would NEVER use one for it, but I am not everyone ;)
