I just picked up one of these at now 6 years old. At $8k, it's an absolute steal. With the glass roof even. Still getting 20 to 25 miles EV only in town. Translates to about 43 mpg on the highway and 60 in town. Right about 50 mpg mixed. And this thing will scoot, unlike a Prius. Handling is better, too.
We have been enjoying one of these since 2015 and without any issues. Very efficient and smooth. Plug in issues have been a blessing. Regeneration has worked as expected. Getting a great mileage as a bonus. Love it. Thanks.
The C Max Energi is on track to save us from buying 500+ gallons per year compared to our 2005 Ford Escape. The power "light ring" really does not impact battery range since it only comes on when plugged into wall power. The power lift gate is optional so buy the stripped down model if trying to squeeze out the most of the battery. This car qualifies for HOV, single occupant access and the additional quality time we get from that benefit is priceless.
This dude is so cool. He doesn't care what he drives. He can review from the most expensive cars like a Bentley or a Mercedes all the way down to a Kia or a Ford :P
Mine can go about 25 on electric only and with the ev later mode I can get almost 40. If i drive conservatively of course. Oh and if you put the back seat down then you have all the room in the world. I put my two medium sized dogs in it and they have no issue moving around. The CMAX Rocks.
hey hey B-Cool... as owners of a '10 SHO... "all-consuming" is a good thing in that king of car, but I will share this: not in fuel costs! I added some Pulstar plugs & routinely saw 40mpg+ on the street & the same on the highway when my foot wasn't exploiting the new found 10% in power! Not at all bad for a 2 ton+ girl!
And...even in longer commutes and mixed driving.. this thing can get milage in the 50's and 60's.. while the not Plug-in version.. the plain vanilla C-max is stuck back at 37 mpg, So that big battery is carrying cheaper energy, and a lot of silent electric driving you will come to love.
1:17, I like having this information from the lighted ring about the charging status.. and at 2:47 I drive a hybrid now and enjoy having all the different displays of information.
I think Ford's CVT is similar to the Toyota hybrid CVT, so it's completely unlike the CVTs that are in other Toyotas, Nissans, Hondas, because those use metal bands, while a hybrid CVT is planetary gear set.
Love the C-Max. I owned one, a EU model before the US appeared. Mine was limelight, awesome color, awesome car. I had to quit that car. I hope Ford will bring this face liftup hybrid in EU and I'll buy it. I just hope that unlike the old model, this one won't come with a built in default "smokers pack". I want to have that out of MY car.
3:30 ... again, WTF... Hell, no! I sometimes felt that the big trunk of my old C-Max wasn't big enough. I don't even wanna imagine how it would be with that battery taking half of the trunk 24/7.
I agree, car like this only to satisfy communists. Car companies should make cars that burn oil and put out ton of exhaust fumes so we can breath in. It is good for the oil companies. It is good for the economy. It is good for everyone. I vote for more exhaust fumes. How about you?
HAHHAHAHAHAHAHA Pay 43,000$ to use 500$ of gas a year, or buy a normal Nissan Sentra for 18,000$ and pay a 1000$ a year for gas ?!?! When you know you're only keeping the car for 5-7 years... That's 22,000$ lost for NOTHING People need to stop buying the bulshit about hybrid cars.. Me I'd buy a 10,000$ V8 Jaguar XK8 and spend the rest of my money enjoying life

That sounds like a great purchase. Have fun!

So how is it doing now with Gas ⛽ at $7 a Gallon?

One of the nicest reviews Cooley has ever done

these car reviews are fantastic! I didn't realise cars come with so much tech these days!

Lol, I like when Americans call a car like this "humble/little". I'm European and this car is huge.
This guy makes really good reviews.

I love how cnet is doing SEVERAL VIDEOS A WEEK in In order to compete

Power sunroof? Not true. It is just a panoramic sunroof. It does not open.
Great video, nice car, but I still think the Plug-In Prius is a better option!
Wasn't the C-Max a van??
Why was it fast forwarded??
I honestly only clicked on this video for Brian Cooley.
The C-Max in the United states is small. In Europe the C-Max is sold as a 7 passenger people mover.
Welcome to America!

Love Brian Cooley.
Spelled disturbingly like snokki lol
Its class category is MPV
Only other hybrid competitor in its day was, like Cooley mentioned, the Prius v. Non-hybrid included the Mazda5 and Kia Rondo
I love you coolie!
And a personal mechanic.
Do they even have the Fiat 500 over there?
the foot operated trunk is from volkswagen, not ford!
I love cool Cooley :)
37g :( i think it's more expensive on a ford car im i right ??
This car is cheap though, the Tesla is expensive
great car. please review your comments.
Yes!!! Wait... NO!!!
A Tesla Model S 83KWh is $80,000
And you have to charge it if you want to go anywhere.
i wish both C-Max cars weighed less. they would both be much more efficient if they lost 300 lbs.
Thought it was not just about money.
It's a shame that Ford ruined this car in North America with the fuel economy misreporting.
C-Net messed up!!
The regular C-max can go 20 miles on battery and the Energi can go way further.

... WTF. I don't want my trunk full of batteries :)) I'll have the normal... gas engine, if it will be available.
But but.. its a ford
