This was super fun to put together; I'm already excited to release the next few episodes. Thanks to all of the builders who enjoy the jank! What did you like, and where can I improve? 🤔
Hi depeinds on the level of teaching you are aming at. for instance are aiming for expaining how your move the bike though the obsticals, and how to find path lines, this is differnt to how to control the bike (e.g. bunny hops) so that you can do the moves you mention. so may be list the bike skills you need to under stand, so that you can tackle the run you are show casing. but that cna be in cations not spoken. so mostly aim to expain, how to chose your path line, why you chose that line, and why you chose that move over an comparable move if apraoate. which is hwat you did in your vidoe. you could go into detail, and brake a bigern track down, then move up to the next level, fora few vidoes so that peoaple can learn the extream basics, this lets them learn the extreams stuff, from a well inder stod base line, so that you can then focuse on the stuff peopel liek me really coem here for and thgat you tacking fun and chanlaging tracks witha secableadn detailed alances of why you chose that path, over an other. hope this helps.?
Man,I was just thinking that you’d be great for making tutorials / guides. When it comes to technical and gnarly stuff you are probably the most qualified on UA-cam. Keep up the good work!
Was so nice to see the features from all angles. You can get a better understanding of what your riding. It’s always tough to tell when rolling. Nice job. Keep doing what you’re doing.
You are such a well spoken person Dale. Teacher material through and through. My biggest take away from this excellent instructional video is line choice, line choice, line choice. I think I instinctively knew much of your advice on line setup (i.e. go wide with the front wheel to prevent the rear wheel getting hung up on the inside), but I’m going to be much more consciously aware for my next several rides. Great video! And congrats on the KOM! I wasn’t sure it would happen with the slide you took 1/3 through the lap.
Love this new content. One thing that you could add is showing/suggesting the easiest line compared to whats fastest on that section. They are often the same line, however in some cases the fastest line involves hitting some moves which would make some riders less confident about what they are doing, and without confidence a crash is more likely.
This is so good, because i´m not a tutorial guy but a tutorial while riding was super fun to watch and helpful you have to make a series out of this idea!😄
I learned few things on the second drops of two, thank you. and liked pick a part; but loved the entire ride at the end, where you dropped two features that I normally roll; now I think I can PR tomorrow.
KILLER VIDEO!!! I like how you did this on a trail you know really well and can TECHsplain definitively and concisely, as opposed to a tough trail you're riding for the first time and documenting your thought process of picking your lines. CHEERS!
A trail well dissected! And a great balance between showing the trail and showing the necessary skills to ride it. I can speak for myself only but I really enjoy the format. Maybe we can has such a video for Revival, too, please? 🥺🥺🥺
A drop vs roll can also be decided by your arm length. If it is higher than the length of your arm, the front wheel will pull your shoulders down, making it possible to OTB. Anything that's shorter than your arm, just "lay" on the handlebar on the top of the drop, and let the front wheel drop, following it with your hands.
That's just for sharp steps, as that rule wouldn't translate to larger features (proper rock rolls) with smoother compressions. Even the example in the video is slightly longer than this rule! 🙂
@@DaleStone oh yeah! Super loose and dusty. I’ve always been bummed at the sd43 rides that I can’t do deliverance with you guys so that pushed me as well!
This feels like learning a language as you're gauging conditions in every moment. You can know some of what you're up against, but I imagine it's still very dependent on one's intuition when riding these technical trails, too? Like do you have moments where you make a decision different than what the condition may convey?
Really enjoyed this. The move in 1:28 is something I've seen in a quite a few of your videos (as well as vanCan and especially dangerours dave). How do you do a drop with zero speed? There's even some where you guys do this pounce move from being fully stopped at the edge of drop. Im new to riding and drops feel easy as long as you got the speed. I've tried experimenting with going slow and it can really pitch you forward hard. Seems like I've run into plenty of scenarios where this would be a useful skill to have.
It's a tough move to explain, but it's definitely very useful haha. First thing is even from a standstill, a lot of these trails are steep enough to gain the small amount of speed needed to manual-drop off of this kind of thing, but when that's not an option you have to weight shift and apply your brakes at the right time to "rock" the momentum into your bike to start going. Then it's a matter of pulling the correct amount backwards at the right time haha. Practice!
@@DaleStone Would love to see a video breaking this down in detail. To clarify, this clip of yours is exactly this pounce move im referring to: ua-cam.com/video/Rsqn320kDXo/v-deo.html&start=107
When you say you pull the brakes and rock, do you mean from a stop you hold the brakes and pull your body forward and then release the brakes and shove the bike forward manual style off the edge of the drop? Do you ever use a pedal wheelie from stopped off a drop?
That's more or less it yeah. Sometimes a wheelie drop works too, but you're then at the mercy of your chain not snapping, and unless you time your pedal stroke perfectly it's harder to stay balanced and accurate with where you'll be landing.
epic, very informaitive, yet as a no nothing sort who jsut enjoy wathing this sort of content, how do you know your on the trail and not left the trail??
Is it a drop? Is it a roll? I'll take "Is there a walk/ride around for $200 Alex". In all seriousness - thanks for confirming my suspicions about that feature. I'll take a look at dropping it next time I'm out that way.
Nice, looking forward to being up in your area for a week and getting to ride some of this stuff. The only thing in my opinion that can be improved, with the camera attached to your helmet, as you're walking the lines, there's a lot of camera movement when you look around, so it gets a bit jittery. But I'm a fan of vids like these (Wade/Raceface, Remy, and Yoann's channels)
This was super fun to put together; I'm already excited to release the next few episodes. Thanks to all of the builders who enjoy the jank! What did you like, and where can I improve? 🤔
Keep them coming! Very cool to see the reasoning behind the line choices!
Thanks for including the sign, 5:50 sweet video!
Of course, thanks for all of your hard work building and maintaining!

I think non-POV shots of you riding would help alot. The pov stuff is good but we can't see what your wheels are doing.

Thanks Nick! Line choice is definitely key, along with staying loose and calm haha. The trifecta of sorts.
Great idea, Dale. I am looking forward to the next one.

Funny enough, one of the next few episodes in this series will emphasize exactly that point! 🙂
This is a fine addition to your content - SHREDspreading and TECHsplaining in one channel.
This is so good, because i´m not a tutorial guy but a tutorial while riding was super fun to watch and helpful you have to make a series out of this idea!😄
That's the plan, two more are already scheduled for release! 😀
Been looking forward to this since you mentioned it in a previous video. Did not disappoint! 🙂
Really clear and helpful narration, Dale.
I’ve been wanting to be a better mountain biker and this guide helps a lot! Thanks Dale, keep up the amazing work!
"Aim for between those to rocks to avoid pedalstrikes..." flies way past both of them... Exactly my kind of humor 🤣😂
Oooh, I enjoyed that! A very welcome segment to the channel indeed. You are just...good at this! Looking forward to the next one 🤘
Great tutorial Dale, Deliverance was something I wanted to clean this year and this will hopefully make it a little easier!
Love this idea! I didn’t expect you to track stand as you explained some of them! 🙌💯
Haha, the one handed pointing track stand is only brought out for truly special occasions. 😂
@@DaleStone Plot twist: this entire video was done just to showcase that move in a subtle way. 😜
Really neat idea for a series, and a really cool trail!
Love the format Dale. Super informative. Deliverance is on my list as something to work up to.
Amazing video, for all of us trying to get better at this, thank you.
I learned few things on the second drops of two, thank you. and liked pick a part; but loved the entire ride at the end, where you dropped two features that I normally roll; now I think I can PR tomorrow.
Heck yeah, get it Fred!
Great video. This trail is on my check list this summer so more than stoked to get the inside line on these features 😊

Thanks! Both formats, although similar on first glance, are quite different as you've noted here. Hard to convey haha.
Great format Dale. Much appreciated for the scary tech :)...I've also been scared to try Deliverance too so this was a bonus haha
I’ve been scared to try it too. I might target an end of season attempt now. Of course, I’m always braver when sitting on my couch at home! 🤣
I've been needing some tutorials from you, man! this is awsome
More to come!
Nice job! More of these please.
Just found you this morning Dale, you just earned a sub. Awesome content😊
Dude, thanks for doing that tutorial. It is a really good thing. I really appreciate it 🤙
Great series, look forward to more of the techsplained 👌
Lots to come! 🙂
Sweet Video! cant wait to get back on the bike, once the ribs heal
Very well explained, I enjoyed that a lot! And you make it look so naturally easy, some fox struggle more walking across the road .... :)
A trail well dissected! And a great balance between showing the trail and showing the necessary skills to ride it. I can speak for myself only but I really enjoy the format.
Maybe we can has such a video for Revival, too, please? 🥺🥺🥺
Oooh, Revival could be quite interesting. Let me see what Dave thinks of that idea! 👀
@@DaleStone Thank you!!
Loving this! Keep up the amazing work Dale :)
Ahhh, the key is not to panic. 😮good luck with that on those features!
It really is! 😅
Nice explanations and a great show case of your skill.

I bought a ghost-shaped bike bell in your honor.
Slimer from ghostbusters. I see you're riding the pink taped "No" co the last few videos i see. 👻
Haha, amazing!

Mad skillz required. Impressive.

I just found out I work with your friend/college roommate, Dan V. Small world! Great video, too!
Ha! Very small world. Now that he's closer I can more easily guilt him into crossing the border.
I spent a good portion of his farewell party convincing him to get a mountain bike, which is how you came up haha
Great video, thank you for making it.
Thanks so much for this video! It gave me the confidence to ride it last night!
That's awesome, I'm glad to hear it! Tough conditions now too, haha.
@@DaleStone oh yeah! Super loose and dusty. I’ve always been bummed at the sd43 rides that I can’t do deliverance with you guys so that pushed me as well!

Intuition comes with time and practice! The more experience you have to draw from, the more accurately you can make split second decisions. 🙂
looking forward to the second one :)

That's a great question. Some free supplier samples from back in the day, not sure the model.
epic, very informaitive, yet as a no nothing sort who jsut enjoy wathing this sort of content, how do you know your on the trail and not left the trail??
Typically it isn't too hard to follow in person, and for the most part you can't just ride straight through the forest. Too much debris!

Your "__orco" has a bit of a creak somewhere?? Great video as always.
Sure does. I think the linkarm bearing went... again. 🫠
Great topic and content Dale!!!! If possible could you something similar for buy guide?
That would be a very different style of content! 🙂
For a future video, could you do Cherri bomb?
Absolutely. Wild cherry is very high on my list. Within two months guaranteed.
