This trick has always been a big one! 25 years later and it still doesn't get done that often in competition and in most generations of park riders there's rarely more than a dozen riders doing it consistently. Tailwhips have gone from singles and doubles to triples and quads, in combos, but double flips are still a ballsy trick.
I am so happy for Jay that he has continued personal growth in retirement and makes amazing custom furniture. Like high end pieces that are as rad as his riding ever was. You go Jay!
Jay Miron is such a great person. Love you bro!! U always killed it on a bmx from your pal Al D. Never forget hangin at interbike in 2007 funny as hell!!
I remember watching this on TV. I was a little kid then... It's crazy to think Miron was pulling double flips on a 50lb bike with a full face helmet, full pads, and chest piece. Nowadays you rarely see full face helmets (except vert), elbow and knee pads, and bikes weighing more than 25 lbs!
He still rides around vancouver. But he doesn't do much bmx anymore, believe it or not he's a downhill/trail rider. He rides a full suspension bike and rides the trails here in vancouver. I've met him many times, very cool and down to earth guy. Even though he owns a company and he's rich, he lives in a tiny little townhouse and drives an old toyota pickup.
I used to watch him in the late 80's when he started....I'm from his home town Thunder Bay..had a HUGE HUGE HUGE crush on him..back when he was on the Papa Piccalino's BMX team
Jay is so good, but the very first ever to done a double back flip was JOSE YANEZ in 84, also he was the very first to do back flip on a dirt bike and BMX!!
*Jose's double back flip was in to water. ua-cam.com/video/N2s98oPRqDc/v-deo.html If there is any footage out there of an earlier 2x back flip landing to a ramp or dirt than Jay's, please share. Meanwhile, it's incredible how ahead of his time Jose was with the back flip(s). Nobody followed it for a decade!
jay is my hero.he did all the hard tricks.he was ahead of his time.forget all the other riders!!!sad that he does not ride anymore!!!best style ever!!!!
@shaundeverehunt Yes that is the late, great John Ritter, most known for comedic roles in 3's company and 8 simple rules. R.I.P. Jay Miron is my favorite rider to watch. Hoffman is/was the most important to the sport, but Jay was so smooth and burly. Fun clip.
@phallictractor I see. . . you have a point. It took someone else to do it somewhere for it to be inspired in another place (bike to motorbike). However, whether it's done on a snowmobile, motorbike, or bike it does not make it any less impressive. Evolution is a good way to put it.
This was right around when Miron and Mirra were practicing doubles in there own private place or something... I think it took Mirra a while to get his first.
I met jay miron once. He told me to enter pro flatland at the la revolution. Im glad i didnt . i told him id get last place. He said id win the contest. Cool guy tho. Very enthusiastic

keith kennedy agree my 2 fav

Hoffman,McCoy,Mirra,Miron
The Blue Falcon, the Doctor himself? Brian Friggin Foster? It’s weird, I would rather watch him ride a park and he does half the big tricks.
Jay miron was one of the best if not the best as far as I'm concerned !!!
I am so happy for Jay that he has continued personal growth in retirement and makes amazing custom furniture. Like high end pieces that are as rad as his riding ever was. You go Jay!

The shock and horror on the non extreme sports fans faces when he crashes lol. Priceless.
They don't know what a perfect crash landing is like oof.
Or that it can be done intentionally to build the tension. 😆

Not only is it the very first, it's also one of the cleanest I've ever seen.

Even if you’re rich, that’s about all you can afford in Vancouver!
I used to watch him in the late 80's when he started....I'm from his home town Thunder Bay..had a HUGE HUGE HUGE crush on him..back when he was on the Papa Piccalino's BMX team
Is it true? Chicks dig bmx?
The Canadian Beast does not fuck around, seriously a legend. That glitter paint job on his bike is fucking awesome as well!!!!
That’s why he is the Canadian beast, and to do it with so many people watching, just nuts!!!!!!! So much respect for this dude!!!!
WHEN I SAW JAY MIRRON DO A 540 double tail whip I was STOKED
The man had the heart of a lion....one of the all time top five legends of BMX. He's 40/41 and retired now...but let us never forget what he gave us.
God, watching this makes me feel old
The medical team look badass in that shot
I rode from 91 to 2012, miron was always one of my favorite riders.
John Ritter is the man. Good job Jay. You and Dave owned the nineties

Love the Canadian Beast! That 540 tailwhip would have won him the gold if it was scored on one run like it is now.

That setup is gnarly.

One of my favourite riders.
This is so funny. Jay was sticking that on every practice run off camera. Hollywood bullshit lol
It’s called making normal people realize how dangerous it is
I seen this on tv in 97 I'm getting old 🤣
