    Excellent information, I think you do some of the absolute best tutorials on You Tube. Clear camera shots of what you are doing, perfectly paced, with excellent narrative and explanations. This was almost a full tutorial on the container as it stands, but I would happily watch a tutorial if you’d like to make one! Tips and techniques that we can apply to our own designs are fabulous! I am grateful for what you do!

    This is exactly something I have wondered how to do. And such simple and clear explanations! (And I would love to see a complete tutorial for the water bottle cover, especially if it has a shoulder strap). Well done! Thank you.

    I always wondered about this as I like to draw my own patterns. Good to know it really is just down to using the calculater. Thank you.

      My question is this: I get a measurement for the diameter of a circle for cylinders I make, then I need to know how to figure out how wide to make the sleeve part of the cylinder. Just the opposite of the way you did it. I think. My customer gives me the measurement across the center of the cylinder opening and the length up and down for the height. How do I determine the width of fabric needed to fit the circle? Or am I over thinking this?

    • @BirdcageandThread
      @BirdcageandThread  5 років тому

      @@BobbiJoNichols - You would take the circumference (without seam allowance) then divide that by 3.142 (pi), which gives you the diameter. After you have determined the diameter of the circle, you would add one seam allowance to the perimeter of the circle. Then you would also add two seam allowances to the circumference.

    Great information. I do have a question how do you determine 1 1/2 inches of ease? Is it just a rule of thumb or is there a calculation to make to determine the ease? For example if my circle, including seam allowance is 6.5 inches and the thickness of my fabric/interfacings is 1/8 of an inch (I use a lot of leather for my projects) how do I determine the amount of ease to get my cylinder length? TIA

    • @BirdcageandThread
      @BirdcageandThread  6 років тому

      Great question!! I just did a 'guesstimate', based on the thickness of fabrics and batting. I gave myself a visual by wrapping the tape measure loosely around the cylinder and guessed on the thickness.

    • @debrayork4551
      @debrayork4551 6 років тому

      Thanks, I usually multiply the circle diameter by pi (or 3.14-gotta love a scientific calculator on an iPhone) add a couple of extra inches, then clip it onto the circle to adjust, just wondered if there was an easier/faster way.
