How I Used 12 Fat Quarters to Make a Scrappy Quilt for Quiltmas?

This is Day 7 of the 12 Days of Quiltmas. 11 of my friends and I each created a quilt using the same ugly Christmas fat quarters. Check out each premiere each day of the first 12 days of December at 6:30pm est. There will be as many of us as possible in the chat for the premiere so please join us. We can't wait to talk to everyone and see what they think of our masterpieces. LOL. And write down the special word from each of the vidoes for a chance to win 1 of the quilts.

12 UA-cam Quilters embarked on a journey to find the ugliest Christmas fabric to contribute to a wonderful collaboration! These brave quilters swiftly and quickly mailed off one fat quarter to each of the other members. Oh, what a mismatched mess it turned out to be! With a matching set of 12 “ugly” fat quarters to work with and tasked with almost the impossible… Each quilter got to work, crafting with their own personal style and flair to create a beautiful (or not-so-beautiful) ugly Quiltmas quilt to share with the world! Each quilt contains pieces of all 12 fat quarters - a little bit of all the quilters.

I think the quote is that if you think a fabric is ugly you haven't cut it into a small enough piece. The way you kept cutting this was wonderful!. You took the Goldilocks chair that was too big into the chair that was just right!.

I love it! Great idea to cut and then cut! Way easier than cutting first and piecing so many tiny pieces! It looks FABULOUS!

That was a great choice. I am not sure I would have had the gut to cut it up. I have a quilt I don’t like. I am going to cut it up and see if I like it better

April, you're conscientious, i.e., you CARED how your quilt turned out even KNOWING you're giving it away to someone you don't know. I think a couple of the participants took the attitude of "good enough" simply because they know they're giving the quilt away. What I think y'all should do in the future, is have US, your subscribers vote on the quilts. The variation in all the fabrics surely made this a difficult challenge bu you pulled it off in making a nice scrappy quilt.

When in doubt cut! 😂 Those cats too! Mine aren't allowed in my sewing room after several thread eating incidents...
Oliver leaves the thread alone. Maxine on the other hand, likes to chew it in half while I am sewing. I make sure I close the lid or cover to keep her out. She isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but she is so pretty. :-)

YAY! got the notification for this just as I got to work. Worked with 8 kids learning to sew... so now home to watch the video!
Fun way to do a "scrappy" quilt.
As for the kitties that don't get along, I have 2 that finally after 3 years almost get along (most of the time)

I like your final quilt top. I've heard it said, "If you find it still ugly, you haven't cut it small enough." You cut your project down until it is beautiful (for a Christmas Quilt). Wonderful. Did you ever have a cat fight in your sewing room? I have.
