    Great video mate. Nice to see a real world, seat of the pants evaluation by a consumer rather than a journo.
    We are considering upgrading from our 2010 200 series to a Tundra IF they become generally available next year.

    I picked up a saying a while back from an old bloke. He was telling me that the shiela across the road died. He said, she went and died and left behind a bloody beautiful Toyota!
    So, I must say “what a beautiful Toyota you have there”
    Mate, those fuel figures are pretty bloody impressive btw

      It’s not 100% clear, as it depends on the results from this trial period as to if Toyota will release to the public. But the consensus is sometime in the next 18 months

    Excellent presentation. With the highway driving (touring without a van) what would be the range of a tank? Close to 1000km?

    • @offgridoutfitters
      @offgridoutfitters  4 місяці тому

      Great question. I believe it’s a 122L tank, so would be tipping 1000km range.

    Great stuff. I am interested in how it performs at close to the 4.5 tonne limit. I know there are boats out there being towed over 4 tonne with 3.5 rated vehicles. Maybe you could borrow a boat?

    • @offgridoutfitters
      @offgridoutfitters  4 місяці тому

      Would be great to give it a shot. Our caravans top out at 3.5t really, some can nudge just over sometimes. But we don’t have anything up near 4.5t unfortunately

    Thanks for the video, very interested in your feedback, currently tow 21ft off-road van with a 2021 200 series. Like you say, You know it’s there and you have to concentrate. So have been waiting awhile to see the difference the Tundra would make. How are the rear view mirrors, are they wide enough without having to attach towing mirrors or can they pull out wider, like clear views.

    • @offgridoutfitters
      @offgridoutfitters  4 місяці тому

      Mirrors are better than the standard 200 mirrors (as in wider, and also heated). I don’t generally use the big mirrors (bad habit I know) but have been eying off the MSA smaller extendable mirrors now they aren’t so ridiculously huge!

    • @hsvme6508
      @hsvme6508 4 місяці тому

      @@offgridoutfitters ok so you would say then that the OEM mirrors aren’t going to be ok for towing full size vans? Would be a good feedback point during your evaluation period. It’s a shame a vehicle that’s main function would be towing that out of the box doesn’t have mirrors that are adjustable wider.

    • @offgridoutfitters
      @offgridoutfitters  4 місяці тому

      I’ll need to test / check dimensions to be sure. It’s damn close to being ok for full size van based on actually using them. But might be just shy of actual widths required for compliance in all states
      I’ll confirm and let you know 👍🏼

    For a useful video on towing performance, you should've stated the trailer weight and tongue weight as tested. Include comments on how much the Tundra squatted when loaded. Tundra tow capasity as tested and milage based on weight of trailer. That's the information viewers appreciate.

  • @actjm3
    @actjm3 4 місяці тому

    Have you towed the Zone RV 19ft with the tundra as yet. How does it go with ride height with the higher drawbar and ball weight?

    • @rich7447
      @rich7447 3 місяці тому

      Ball height is going to depend on the drop or rise of the hitch that you put in the receiver. Even with a 7" lift and 37" tires on my Ram 2500, the ball (conventional hitch) was no higher than it is on a stock F150. Lift will affect height for fifth wheel and goosenecks.

    Was curious why you were not using towing mirrors. Are the standard mirrors extendable or are they wide enough to provide the necessary visibility for towing?

    • @offgridoutfitters
      @offgridoutfitters  4 місяці тому

      They’re wide enough for me. Haven’t measure to see technically if they’re wide enough, but if I’m honest, I’ve not ran the big mirrors before (I know.. bad habit of mine)

      @@offgridoutfitters Thanks for the reply. No dramas. Was just curious. For me personally I need the extra visibility to feel safe. But have never owned an American truck and the extra body width that they have may mean the standard mirrors may well be enough. Cheers.

    • @offgridoutfitters

    The only payload data I could find is 758kg. Taking into account trailer download of 350kg less fuel accessories and people this only leaves 100 kg for anything else or nothing if you were to max out the claimed towing of 450 kg download

    Love the tundra, however I was really hoping the iforce max would help with daily driving (unloaded) specifically electric assistance to get the big lump moving from a stand still (traffic lights, stop/start traffic, just general daily life) From what I’ve seen in your videos this doesn’t appear to be the case. Seems like a massive missed opportunity for efficiency gains by not using the hybrid electrics in daily driving (isn’t that where electric motors excel? Torque that could be used to get the car moving?)
    Let’s be honest, most of these vehicles won’t be towing every day of their life… just like 9#% of all the rams and Silverado’s I currently see on the road already.

    • @offgridoutfitters
      @offgridoutfitters  4 місяці тому

      Oh it does! I probably haven’t shown that feature, but something we can demonstrate. It’ll drive completely electrically until around 15kph or until more power is needed. Basic manoeuvring, like parking, or driving out your driveway would be typically under electric power only (engine shuts off). From a standstill, it uses electric to get you going, unless you put your foot down and require more power from the engine that is

  • @destinyangel5
    @destinyangel5 4 місяці тому

    It's sounding like these are the few they have been testing and no clear availability to Australian motorists . Most likely feedback is it will not be cheaper than the brand new Ford F150 in base trim or Ram V8 . Tundra looks really good has great features but price and availability may be the killer .If there is not a good supply of these the prices will be astronomical .

    • @offgridoutfitters
      @offgridoutfitters  4 місяці тому

      There are 300 of them for a pretty well publicised 12 month trial period. That is, released out into the wild and able to be utilised by people as they would normally to provide feedback on any improvements and so Toyota can assess the suitability overall. I would suggest, that this is the most thorough, and comprehensive roll out of any American ute into the Australian market. As a buyer, I appreciate the lengths they are going too! Given the effort and cost involved in Toyota getting this far with the program, I can't imagine they would be doing all of this to not release them! Just need to be patient. It will come!

  • @Davidsmith-mc2no

    Does the tundra have I think it is called a 5th wheel hich

    • @rich7447
      @rich7447 3 місяці тому

      I don't believe that any of the half ton pickups offer fifth wheel prep from the factory. It is possible to add an aftermarket fifth wheel hitch to a half ton, but the half ton segment (class 2A) is not big enough to make it worth while. Fifth wheel hitches weigh between 150 and 250 lbs (gooseneck conversions - ie goosebox - save this much payload) and carry a higher percentage of the trailer weigh (15 to 30%) on the tow vehicle. This quickly uses up all of the available payload of a half ton. Depending on the size of your trailer, a 3/4 ton, 1 ton SRW, 1 ton DRW or higher would be a better choice.
