Thanks! Just came across your channel, now subscribed. About a year ago I bought an X16 gen1 for my Atmos setup and it’s been great. I bought it because I was in the UAD ecosystem and hoed that eventually they would add monitor correction via the DSP, and I’ve not been disappointed. UA supporting the older Gen1’s is why I’m still with that company. They could have reserved that feature only for Gen2’s and I’d be stuffed using software only solutions. So supper happy with the UA products. But I share some of your frustrations re the headphone outputs. Running a X16 for Atmos means it has to be the monitor controller, so my headphone system is a real pain because I use the behringer P16 system, thus not the actual Apollo HP outs. So the routing is limited and I won’t even be able to run the HP correction of my other units, x8 and an older twin. I’d like to be able to apply that correction to those out puts, so I can reference check my mix with correction applied, but I won’t be able to unfortunately. Nothing is perfect I guess… but great video. Thanks.
your bass gone with sonarworks because you should check "limit controls" option and set low frequencies to "aggressive" or "extended" mode. and yes, in addition, you can use custom eq curve. *** AND YES - I DID the same MISTAKE using tape measure with ADAM A8X...... lol
Brilliantly honest review. It is appreciated as I have waited for someone to give an unbiased review. Has the converters and overall sound vastly improved from Apollo twin mk1 version? As I am still rocking the Apollo twin mk1 from 2015!!
I do believe there were some upgrades in the ad/da. At least with this gen’s monitor output, they did a little upgrade. I’ve been happily working on the mk2 apollos for the past 8 years with no issues tho, so itll sound solid either way
@@thomasvopstal thanks so much for reply man and for confirming what I suspected. I did hear improvements from the twin x when comparing it to my twin mk1 but not enough to upgrade. However, I am considering the gen2 but only if it is noticeable difference and based on your response it doesn’t appear to be.
Same here, I calibrate my system with Sonarworks , I don’t like how it’s sounds as well . Even though I don’t have dip &peaks more then 4 db , that is already flat enough)
Thanks for this! Question: Are you using a sub with your ATC's? Or is your room creating that much bass response from them? I didn't realize you could get that much low-end our of SCM25a?
Very informative, I'm an Apollo user myself and I'm just wondering how you can make for example a vocal chain using your hardware coming in at channel 1. Let's say you run your mic through the preamp and then going out into an EQ into a compressor and then to your interface channel 1? I do this by using a patchbay so I can route everything in order that I like. How does this work on the UA console when every piece of hardware is directly connected to an in or out on the interface? Thanks!
Is it possible to use two different sonar profile with your two different monitors? I mean switching with the alt button back and forth the preloaded profiles. It would be so comfy. A great video again! Thank you!
I don't think so... only one speaker profile and two headphone profiles at a time. From SoundID website "the integrated solution supports one speaker profile (stereo or multichannel) and up to two headphone profiles running at the same time (Apollo X desktop = 1 headphone profile, Apollo X rackmount = 2 headphone profiles)." So you'll still have to switch speaker profiles when switching monitors.
Thanks for the video and for your honesty at the end! I still have this curiosity and would be grateful if you could answer: 1) the D to A on x4 is not as good as the x16? so you;d still be ok with that? 2) can you pls clarify if the Gen2 Apollo x4 sounds better (D to A and Headphone amp) than the Apollo x4 Gen 1?
I’ve been doing all my work on x16’s mk2’s for the past years and it was fine, the difference between the 16 and 4 is not that shocking to me i guess (if there is any). And ive got no idea about the gen 1 vs gen2 x4
Why did you go for the apollo's and not for something like the Gen 4 Orion ? Has more in / outputs + ADAT for almst 3K less in price. Just curious because I'm thinking of upgrading my interface as well.
From my experience once UAD forever UAD and if you use it with Luna you gonna get sound like from Hollywood. All the other brands just can’t beat UAD from their audio interfaces, to plugins, to DAW.. they are really the highest level you can ever imagine
@@Rene.Rhodes well the converters in Apollo are definitely not the best on the market. Especially comparing them with others in the same price range and number of inputs/outputs. But they’re user friendly and I can understand you would go for that (again).
Ahh… so you are a beta user, hence you have it. Hint: let SonarWorks do its thing via measurement. Finetune everything then in SoundID (how much dB it should correct, how agressively, use HP LP filters if you want. And in the meantime measure measure and measure results in REW. You’ll be surprised. REW is useful to check the freq response / phase issues / group delay and distortion of your monitors. It eill easily it up a day, but you can tune them in with SoundID user eq’s and REW measurements together… to a perfect sweetspot that room’s physics allows you. Big feature in SoundID is that you can use infinite user EQ points adding to the measurement result.
Idk man, I think the Gen2 was a huge disappointment from UA. They had a chance to do something great. I’m not impressed at all and think the 1st gen is just fine and the price isn’t worth the upgrade
I like your video man, thank you for your honesty.
Super interesting and entertaining as always! Congrats on the new Apollos✌️
hahaha I love your honesty
I love my Apollo x4 and I'm excited to buy another Apollo x8p in the future when I can afford more equipment.
I’m okay with Apollo❤

I'm a loyal RME lover. Never liked the Apollo's. Anyway that's just me. But congrats on the upgrade m8!
Awesome! Thank you for this 🙌🏾
That exactly what happened with my Adam a7x but I was quick to react. So it’s just bent a bit . Works same though!
I need the mini ssl

Oh don’t get me wrong, i like how it works, i just don’t like what it does on 100%😅
Seems like you bought the interface for Sonarworks 😂
UAD came back after 10+ years with pretty much the same box… still hooking them😅

Just the 25’s by themselves!

This is a limitation i have at the moment, but i might add a patch in the future.
@@thomasvopstal Okay, I assumed that the larger interface you reviewed could already do this digitally somehow. Thanks for the reply!

Im married to the apollo workflow at this point, i love the way it works, thats the most important to me

Maybe i should upgrade my apollo😃
No MJ I've already DM'ed you on IG about that, it doesnt change a fuck
Ik voel je met sonarworks, ik steek altijd een jonko aan voor dat ik ga meten
I want your playlist but I use a PC. Do you have it somewhere other than Apple?
Are the AD and DA converters new?
No, same converter.
Yes, why should we buy it then 🤔
@@matteonollistop lying, they did upgrade the converters. The Sharc processors are the same but who cares it WORKS.
which monitors do you prefer pmc or atc?
For this setup i love my atcs!
Sounds like you spent €3K on interfaces instead of treating your room
I guess it does
