The Bad Batch Frustrates Me but I Love It (And it Gives Me Hope)

- I really wanted to love season 2 of The Bad Batch... and I mostly did. It wasn't without its childish, unnecessary filler, but when it delivered, it really hit home.

Bad Batch treads the fine line between a kids' show and a serious show. Compared to Mandalorian, Bad Batch will make the kids who watch it go back and think about the messages in the show, and (potentially) grow as a person, while Mandalorian will let them have fun for the time being, but will forget about it the next day.
Both are garbage anyways

Honestly, as cartoonish as the episode with the guy who's making the kids work in the mines is, I liked it a lot as commentary on corporate management.
"Okay guys, our productibity is sky rocketing and its all thanks to yalls hard work. You're all great. But, one of you is better than everyone else. Praise be to them, everyone else needs to be like them- keep working and you'll get there one day!

Love how the kids have a full blown Russian rvolution at the end. They kill the Tsar and then share all the food he had. Seriously, the main kid literaly said: ''we will distribute the food equally now''.
Sorry it’s 4 months late but i was surprised that it was a kids show because there’s $u*c*d£, murder, casino/bar, and various other bad things but there’s barely any blood so apparently that makes it for kids. That doesn’t seem right to me but whatever- I wish it was higher rated so there could be more gore and it could have a darker theme but I still love it

i am so happy the bad batch as a show exists because my favorite aspect of star wars is the clone troopers i just love them so much
Same. Republic Commando made me love the clones and I've never looked back.
I appreciate the lighter episodes in this show because they make the darker and more tragic episodes (especially the season finale) feel more impactful. The shifts in tones didn't bother me at all unlike in the latest season of the Mandalorian. That being said I think season 3 needs to maintain a darker tone in every episode because of where season 2 left the characters.

@@thechroniclegamer4285 A little filler is fine, too much filler is annoying and kneecaps a show. A great example is Dragons: Race to the Edge. If it didn't have so many filler episodes, I'd probably put it up there with clone wars and Transformers Prime in terms of kids shows. Instead, it has so much filler that it's nearly unwatchable for any non-kid audience, and it's a good but ultimately mediocre show.
I don't want Bad Batch or any Star Wars product to meet the same fate.

Season 2 can be perfectly split into a streamlined 8 episode version of the whole narrative (Ep 3, 7, 8, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16) while the remaining 8 episodes serve as optional content for character growth and lore building.
Sooo... Why did Cid betray them in the end?

Cutting those episodes would do more harm than good. If you only like pew pews than yes, cut those out. But if not, why?
There aren't optional episodes; they are important to understand the overall story
@@buffalo_yt9245 I’ll happily agree that the entire season is a necessary viewing experience, hence why I’ll never use the dreaded F word (filler) to describe those 8 episodes (Ep 4 was actually one of my favourites). I guess I was just attempting to create a fun machete cut for more casual viewers like people did with The Clone Wars

I like episodes 1-2. The plot isn't relevant to the greater story, but they're well made and they have some great character set up that's paid off throughout the season
@@sivad1025 I agree. The episodes are essentially an upgrade from season one, giving the Bad Batch a new goal and seeing them work the hardest they ever have and in the most danger. The thing that sets it apart is the sheer brutality of it. Tech in particular is an absolute tank, getting his leg broken, shot, and who knows what else. The visual storytelling is also there as well, the contrast of Dooku’s palace to the small Serennian village below, the amazing shot where Tech and Omega are in the cargo container and you see the deck crumbling as Omega must make a choice… Certainly a lot to love
The shadow of the vulture flying over the clones body was the best scene of all of bad batch
I feel like they bad batch is probably the most confusing Star Wars show for me, where as shows like boba and kenobi represent the worst of Star Wars outright, bad batch represents both the best and the worst at the same time which makes me feel conflicted on the show sometimes. Like on one hand you have mature, competent, compelling stories with interesting themes and implications, and then you have wacky meaningless adventure of the well episodes with pointless cameos and references galore, not that adventure episodes are always bad but I feel like they overstayed their welcome this season in particular. This show has such potential and I hope in season 3 it’s completely realized.

Where is all the "worst" of Star Wars? There isn't too much in this season, and almost no cameos outside of the big episodes, and even then they are actually earned
@@officialmonarchmusic I’m talking about the series as a whole, such as the Caleb order 66 retcon which was pretty pointless and only served as a way to put the bad batch in the same place as Caleb for a cameo, and also the very forgettable and pointless treasure hunt episode which feels like it was just an excuse to remind us phee was a character and to have a nod to the zeffo from fallen order, which are just two examples of my main gripes (the overuse of repetitive adventure of the week “filler” episodes, and the overuse of cameos at times (this one is more of an issue that’s more prevalent in Star Wars as a whole)
@@officialmonarchmusic like I will agree that some cameos, like rex, make sense, but why did we need a retconned Caleb order 66 scene which is kinda worse than the comic version. Personally I think if they were gonna make an order 66 cameo for the bad batch it should’ve been Gungi, since Gungi appears later in the series and it would make him learning to trust the bad batch a bit more impactful
@@waterbears9874 I agree on the Caleb Dume point but I thought the discussion was on Season 2 specifically. None of the cameos in this latest season fall into cameo of the week territory, at least in my view. And even the worst of this show is still decent, hardly “the worst of Star Wars.”

Outpost is IMHO the best animated SW episode since 3D Clone Wars started. It's just so different from all the content produced nowadays. It's dark, gritty and depressing. There's no heroes and people die with no fanfare. I wish we could get more of this and Andor and less of colorful and painless adventure Mando is.

I think Mando has potential. They just have to change a lot and bring the show back to its roots. Which I doubt will happen. I have a rule about finishing a season I start, but I don't think I'll be watching season 4 unless it does this. The show's directing, once the thing that made the show stand out, is getting just as bad as in Kenobi, even episodes with directors like Rick Famuyiwa and Bryce Dallas Howard, some of the best directors the Mandalorian ever had

Phantom Apprentace and Shattered are both staggeringly good. In fact, those 2 + Victory and Death are rated #21 #22 and #23 best TV episodes of all time on IMDb. The amount of screen time in Shattered that uses visual storytelling without dialogue is amazing. The lead up to Order 66 is so haunting
The crosshair episodes were on another level of greatness
I don't consider any of the episodes as filler, all of it served to highlight different ideas prevalent throughout the show.

I don’t really know how to feel about these filler episodes. It feels like they wanted to make an adult show, so they made one and added some childish episodes in between in order to be able to say "yeah ! This show is for kids !"
On another hand, although most of these fillers were boring and cut the pace between excellent episodes, they allowed us to spend more time with the bad batch and somehow made these excellent episodes even more impactful.
They're especially complicated because each one has about 5 minutes of dialogue that I would keep like Hunter talking about Omega being a kid on Kashyyyk or Tech's conversation with Omega. I absolutely hate the child labor arc and would love to just skip it on rewatch, but those couple conversations are so important to Tech's payoff at the end
Imo those "filler" episodes were essential for the main plot of the season.
Episode 4, besides developing Tech more, it showed that Cid owed the batch, and warning us that she is not to be trusted.
Episode 5 made the batch bond with Phee and her with Omega, thus Phee respecting and trusting the batch.
Episode 6, well, is just them seeing a peaceful life, mainly for omega.
Episode 9, was another job that Cid sent the batch on. At the end of the episode the batch asked her for helped and she kindly rejected them, showing she does not care.
Episode 10 is just a continuation of ep 9.
Episode 13 is a culmination of episode 5. If that would not have happened, we would be questioning how is she trusting them so easily and why does she care about Omega. It also shows what the batch dreamed of from episode 6, a peaceful home.
Now episode 16, with Cid's betrayal, that's the culmination of all the failed mission from her, that she lost a lot of money for those jobs, and in the end she had to do it. IF THOSE FILLER EPISODES WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED, PEOPLE WOULD SCREAM WHY AND WHAT DID THEY DO. All episodes that were missions from Cid went wrong,and she grew tired of losing money because of the team's "incompetence", so she sold them out to the empire.
So in the end, in my opinion, the entire season is amazing not just in world building, but also story wise.
I agree that there were bits of information needed for the plot taken from these episodes but I feel like they could have been condensed or at least revolve around a more interesting mission instead of dragged out over 6 episodes. I still enjoyed most of them, but it’s unlikely that I’ll watch said episodes again.
Tech's conversation with Omega after they fall is one of my favourite very underrated scenes in bb- expressing Tech as the autistic character he absolutely is allowing him to have a full wonderful relationship with Omega whilst having different ways of experiencing and living in a big galaxy of change and horror and instability.
The music in The Bad Batch is phenomenal as well. Kiner’s always Filoni’s go to composer finally getting his live action Star Wars debut and I hope it gives him a spotlight. He’s the most underrated composer in the business.
I actually think the filler is where you get most of the character development. Of course if the episodes were longer you could squeeze in that character development more into the plot centric episodes. I think what’s even more impressive about the bad batch is who makes it. Filoni pitched the idea of the show and wrote the first episode but other than that it’s mostly down to Brad Rau and Jennifer Corbert. It shows that there are other people than just Dave and the people behind Andor who do care for Star Wars.
Yeah they've done a pretty good job all things considered.
The Bad Batch can be *soooo* good at its best - especially when it touches the "big" stories like with the clones being replaced, Rex's rebellion and the entire Mount Tantiss thingy. *That* last scene with Omega and the scientist also left me in awe!
Thankfullly the other episodes are not bad, just ok. You can easy enjoy them even while doing something else besides it :D
Hopefully Season 3 will 100% focus on those big threads, tie them together and bring them to satisfying conclusions. I can't wait!
The Bad Batch S2 >>> The Mandalorian S3
The first half was lukewarm, I thought they had not learned anything. Then with the midseason through to the finish they subtly kicked it into high gear and the show rapidly became an all time favorite for me without feeling like a different show.
I honestly love all of the season. It only has one or two skippable episodes but it is masterfully written and directed throughout and way more consistent than you initially might think. The only odd ones out this season I'd say this season was episode 5 and parts of episode 10. (Which actually was one of the darker episodes of the show)
Clone Wars also has filler, but it’s those critical lore episode that makes it a loved TV show.
I think once the dust settles Bad Batch will be loved alongside its predecessor. The clone conspiracy arc in season 2 was some of the best star wars since Andor
I agree. I binged Clone Wars, making the filler episodes more palatable because I knew I could just skim through and get to the next good one. Watching TBB weekly frustrated me because I had to wait a whole week only for an episode that went nowhere.

By the end, I was just kind of exhausted. The finale did not do it for me. "I'm your sister omega!" Like wtf what. It felt like a soap opera.
Glad to see this show get the attention it deserves! It might not be perfect, but it’s got some stellar moments

This review reflects my feeling on The Bad Batch pretty accurately. When it's good, it's great. It's up there with some of the best of Star Wars media out there. However, even for a show that's aimed for kids, it can get overly juvenile at times and the tonal whiplash between the "mature" and more "juvenile" episodes can be really jarring and frustrating to watch. As you said, it can be a hard thing to balance, and while they didn't always get it right, I think The Clone Wars was able to strike that balance pretty well a lot of the time. And to be fair to The Bad Batch, I think they did it quite a bit in season 1 as well and a few times in season 2 (The Tribe and Pabu), but a lot of them this season really crossed that admittedly delicate line to being overly juvenile.
I'm still really high on season 2 as a whole though as the highs it hits are extremely high and it overrides a lot of not insignificant negatives and it really dragged The Bad Batch as an overall show to being second only to Andor as the best Star Wars TV show under Disney (I'm not counting season 7 of The Clone Wars in this).
Clone Wars has always been like Bad Batch though. For every Siege of Mandalore, you get the Martez sisters. For every Conspiracy with 5s, you get a Jar Jar Windu buddy cop. For every The Wrong Jedi, you get George Lucas' weird pet projects featuring some random droids.
I love Clone Wars dearly, but I think we're kidding ourselves if we act like Bad Batch has a bigger problem with filler

I'm a new subscriber & fellow star wars enthusiast, so far I'm liking your content/comments. In regards to the bad batch, just to keep it recent, after s2 ep3 "solitary clone" seeing Crosshair murder another person, when Commander Cody hesitated, I was grateful for the following episode "faster" & seeing the stark contrasts between how Crosshair is addressed & treated by the empire VS his brothers/former squad's chosen life & being addressed/cheered by their chosen names ~ especially after Tech wins the riot race. It's almost as if he was in disbelief that an audience, complete strangers, are sharing in his triumph. They've never experienced that before & it was heartwarming to see, especially after Crosshair commits another war crime, blindly following orders without a trace of moral hesitation. Although I am glad he finally reached his limit in "the outpost" & is on the path of character redemption. I've seen several early viewers' reviews/interviews of TBB writers/EPs + voice actors for the clones & omega. It sounds like the first 8 episodes of s3 will be tight & are written in order to closely stick to the main topic/mission at hand. And the reviewers all say the same thing, sounds like we won't get as much "filler" episodes as the first 2 seasons. Although as we saw in Rebels, those filler episodes might prove important in this final season. We'll have to wait and see...
Bad batch's problem is that sometimes it's way better that it deserve to be. It is a saturday morning cartoon. It has to be childish or concerned parents get scared.
I loved every episode this season. I also have a weird fascination with what I call fantastical domesticity. I like action, especially with clear tactics, I thrive off of character arcs ... but I kinda like seeing how people in fantastical settings just ... live. How the fantastical elements play into the mundane life. So the slower episodes are nice views into that, while also working to maintain an ebb and flow to the story. Not every episode should be that on-the-ball, plot-sensitive intense. Some filler is good filler, and I think Bad Batch has had some of the best filler. Especially since they used to tell mostly self-contained stories (we don't have to come back to them) while building character arcs that can be paid off at the dramatically important moments.
Also, I'm not allowed to have favorite characters. They always die.
The worst thing about the bad batch for me is the fact that the whole cloning plot by the empire is looking like it will tie into the sequels, the creation of snoke and return of palpatine, which just makes me sad. But if you ignore the sequels its relly cool !
I mean we all should have seen that coming... but on it's own it really is intriguing.
And now we have the Mandalorian confirming that it's leading to the cloning of midichlorians 😭😭😭

I got goosebumps hearing the Clone Wars final arc theme played somber and sorrowful after Echo leaves and the episode ends up, Omega and the audience both sitting in that moment
I think your being a little too critical of the show here. Now I agree that some of the filler episodes can be a little boring, but imo, light hearted filler like what we got is necessary for us to connect with the characters more. That conversation between tech and omega for example was what I call perfect filler. It made me understand tech on a deeper level, because beforehand, I never really thought of the idea that he was autistic, I just thought he was a little unusual. But that convo made me realise his autism and made me connect with him so much more, which is what made his death in the finale so much more impactful.
And I believe that, to a lesser extent, that is what most of the ‘filler’ is there for. Not just to take up time, but to make us connect with the characters more.
I am so glad I found someone who has amazing, in depth reviews but is also as passionate about the Bad Batch as I am. It makes me excited to listen to people talk about/discuss shows I enjoy and love.
For me, I just can't forgive all the half-assed character arcs and concepts and broken narrative. Filoni is just so hellbent on rushing us towards the age of Rebellion that we aren't allowed to have interesting imperial clone characters or see civilians celebrating the Empire for ending the Clone Wars.
It seems to me that both seasons of The Bad Batch have the exact same problem: they are both commissioned for more episodes than they have story to tell. It's very clear what story the creators want to give us, but Disney requires more content, so they have only two options: slow each episode's pacing to a crawl and stretch this bad boy out as far as they can, or have solid, tight bangers with a bunch of pointless filler to take up the runtime in between. personally I prefer this methos because ultimately that means you can skip the filler episodes and not really lose anything when watching the good ones. The rewatch value of the GOOD episodes is all there, and this method makes it easy to rewatch those good ones without sacrificing story when you skip the boring ones. if season 3 goes where I think it's going to go, it's gonna be a banger of a season, full of top quality storytelling and intrigue, but we will probably have to sit through yet more Pabu episodes in anticipation of the good stuff. Because when this show is good, it's GREAT.

I quite liked the episode with the armadillo guy villain. It was very simplistic and somewhat comically over-the-top, I'll give you that, but in keeping things simple it helps get the anti-capitalist point across. Like you said, this is a show generally appealing to kids, who may not be able to unpack subtext quite as well as someone with more experience doing so. Frankly, I am just happy Disney is allowing Star Wars to have any anti-fascist or anti-capitalist messaging at all, let alone so close together with Bad Batch and Andor.
When you were talking about 'stories about Brothers in Arms' I immediately thought of Band Of Brothers - also my favourite thing ever to be aired - so I was very happy to learn you share that view!
Bad Batch has provided some much needed quality and emotional weight that Star Wars content has been missing in so many of its shows.
True there's a fair amount of filler - I skipped all but the very beginning and end of the Tech racing episode, and don't feel like I missed anything - but overall Season 2 has been a very rewarding experience.
I really liked both bad batch seasons as I really like the characters and their continuation from S7.But those crosshair episodes really hit different.Like Damn that episode with Mayday was insane.
Personally by the rules provided for what a filler episode is, only episodes 4 & 5 can actually fall into that camp. Starting with episode 6, every single episode builds along to the finale of the season (even if that episode is just for the reference in episode 8). Even the stranded two parter, which I didn’t like, had plot importance as it pushed Tech and Omega's relationship closer and pushed Cid further into the light and begins the Bad Batch's distrust for her. Point is, there is a difference between a bad episode/an episode you don’t like and a filler episode.
Every time I see you've put out a new video I hear Palpatine saying "Master Samwise" in the same tone as his politely surprised "Master Windu" in RotS XD

It really feels like the showtinners have a vision and story they want to tell hlbut Disney wants more episodes so it has to add filler.
I agree with the sometimes inconsistent tone of the episodes (though Clone Wars had that too everytime they did a droids or Jar Jar centric arc). But the main plot stories were SO good, that the rest can be forgiven. If Andor is the evolution of Star Wars then Bad Batch is the feeling of nostalgia with modern asthetics. ❤
Holy cow I watched the second episode and the ending of that episode was just unreal then the Cody hunter arc was even better. Damn bad batch season 2 slaps.

I don't think it's possible for this show to have filler.
People are redefining it to mean who knows what. Filler means nothing added to character or story. It's a contradiction to say "it's filler but there were some valuable moments". How could they afford filler episodes when they only had 16 episodes to get their point across? That sense of aimless questing is a product of the show's plot (Empire stuff isn't the only plot) which is following a group of veterans as they try to live in the real world. I've heard that aimless "figuring out what to do next" state post service is relatable to irl vets and Jennifer Corbett's experience definitely contributes to that realism. On a side note, I love how the show deals with this after service aspect of soldiers with the clones' decisions and fates. It's so important to their experience and I feel as though it's not highlighted as much as the action and combat from what media I've seen.
Sure certain quests might've been better thought. The show's not perfect and I have my gripes like anyone else. But the "filler" episodes always gave insight into the characters which laid great foundation for the finale.
Yup, this season was a roller coaster but wow when this show gets it right it slaps. Was having to ask myself do I watch BB before or after Mando cause I was fairly sure Mando was going to disappoint and BB showed up every episode of their crossover.

i personally liked the episode in the mines. to me it wasnt cheesy but good filler that gave insight into tech that we haven't seen before. i didnt really take notice of how easily a kid could steal the murauder but besides that it was good character dev. i will say the episode after that was kinda cheese
The characters are the most important part of almost any story, so chapters that show how the characters are feeling or how are getting affected by events that happen are essential. I understand that some might find chapter 9 boring, but it's not filler (not to mention chapter 9-10 it's the reason they cut ties with cid. Tho I agree the villian on that episode was terrible).
And maybe I just got used to it, but I think the tonal shifts of the show actually work in favor of the story. It shows what are the stakes of bad choices appart from characters deaths. While the batch decisions had led them to get allies and even a new home, Crosshair's decisions led him to the crumbling of his ideals and to the operation table where he's getting tortured.
In my eyes (and heart), the episodes with Crosshair, if you could extract them and create a full season, is emotionaly on the same level as The Siege of Mandalore. Give me Clones or give me death. They are my favourite characters in this galaxy.

I’m not a huge Star Wars person [sorry but the SCP-verse is beyond better!] but I LOVE the batch. At first I wasn’t gonna watch it but I’m so glad my ADHD wouldn’t leave me alone about it. Huh- I never thought I’d be happy to have a mental disorder….anyways, it definitely made me re-consider were my loyalties lie fandom wise but i still don’t really like SW. It’s definitely refreshing to find a show that doesn’t constantly need dialogue to be decent and uses other things like body language and music. I was surprised when I glanced at the rating especially because there’s $u*c*d£ and ,ya know, murder but oh well. I wish it was rated higher because I like gore [DONT JUDGE ME-] but it still has action. It was definitely interesting to see some of the inner workings of the empire and it was done well enough to keep my attention even though I haven’t even finished all the SW movies. The voice acting, animated, and music is just all so deliberate and well executed. While there are some things that bother me but my ADHD doesn’t care so therefore I don’t either. As someone who enjoys creating my own stories I would have definitely changed a lot…ok pretty much completely created a new show, it’s still one of my favorite shows of all time. I'm not opposed to filler episodes, but I do think the stories could have been better. Like further fleshing out the Republic turning into the Empire. As for the villain of the Miner arc, he kind of reminds me of a one-episode villain from an episode of Batman: The Animated Series titled The Forgotten. However, I feel like Boss Biggis works much better. For one thing, he controls his miners by threatening to lock them in a metal box in the blistering desert heat. Second, He has a large group of armed goons following his orders. I think the other guy only had a handful of droids, but I could be remembering their numbers wrong. Most significantly, his mining operation isn't the focus of the episode. It's the question of how long can Bruce hold out until his memories return, so he can take the boss down as Batman. The Bad Batch episode may have fared better if another, more emotionally-driven plotline was the focus of the episode, with the miners' situation being the subplot. Maybe if the Echo-Omega subplot from the previous episode was moved to this one? Ah well. No show is perfect.

I entirely agree with you, I found myself skipping through half the episodes out of boredom but loving the other half as much as clone wars. My thoughts on this show is that they should go on full clone wars anthology mode with more characters that have ~4 episodes each per season to avoid the fillers or half the number of episodes
The clone wars had just as much filler as bad batch and I would argue it was worse filler

3:00 The fact that the clone vets are put in there to do the dirty work to spare stormtroopers is treated like it's unjust, but it's efficient. It's inhumane, but in the military, you are not a person, you are your skills and rank. Sure, there should be justice and respect, but why do fans think there is room for compassion in such an occupation?

I would love it if the filler episodes had some even minor tie-in to the greater story in terms of their plot. I thought it was a major letdown that the treasure hunting episode, within its own respective runtime, made its story irrelevant to the whole.
Season 2 was an improvement on season 1, so I've got high hopes the last season will be amazing
I personally loved every moment of season two. Some of the best Star Wars content I’ve seen in ages. I am a huge animation, fan, and honestly, I watch a lot of shows that are targeted towards kids. More than I do adult targeted stuff. I happen to prefer the way the stories are told there, and what you call “filler” I would call character development. And kind of the point of the show. Pabu IS the point for these characters, in the end. The race with Tech (was hilarious and awesome) showed the beginning of their break with Cid, as well as developing and focusing on Tech to prepare for his departure from the show.
My favorite thing about Bad Batch is the exploration of the early days of the empire, and every episode did that for me. I’m not seeing to say you need to have loved it like I did- but I do object a little to the claim of “just filler”, when I don’t think the really plot centric episodes would have come close to the same weight without them.
Am I the only one who wants to see Slick in season 3, even if we can get an "I told you so" interaction between him, Rex, and Cody?
(Also, fall damage isn't real in Star Wars, and the bad guy scientist (I forgot his name) has Tech's glasses, so...)
Season 3 review when?
I don't mind filler episodes, but I think the ones this season could have been used more effectively. What I was craving was character moments between Omega and the Batch. That's what made me fall in love with season 1. And season 1 had filler as well, but the filler episodes still functioned to advance the story. They felt like chapters in a book; you could have a goofy episode but it served a purpose in the characters or world building. There was a seriousness to it so that the moments of lightheartedness felt warranted. Season 2 jumps around way too much both in it's plot and it's tone, and I don't know why.
For example, the episodes 4-6, the main filler episodes. I cannot comprehend why they didn't utilize those to develop Omega and Tech/Echo's relationship moreso given what happened to them. I can somewhat forgive them not spending much time on Hunter and Omega's relationship since that's what the first season was, and she clearly has a relationship with Wrecker, but the moments between Omega, Echo, and Tech were very quick this season and then never addressed again until they "exited". And I would have been bawling like a baby if their relationships were more developed.
Maybe during the racing episode she's working with Tech to fix the pod or on the strategy, showing how much she learned from him. Maybe during the Wookie episode Echo's trying to teach her hand to hand combat and gets a bit too overenthusiastic, causing Hunter to chastise him (she's just a kid), to which Echo responds with something to the effect of "She needs to be able to protect herself when we're not there". Then the mission, maybe Omega gets separated and needs to protect herself with what Echo taught her, then we get the end of the episode with Hunter talking to the Wookie elder about how she's been robbed of a childhood. The wookie elder says something, to which Hunter and Echo exchange a look recognizing that both of them are right about Omega.
Honestly the thing that irritates me the most is that the dark episodes seemed to come right out of nowhere with the "fun" episodes serving little to no function. When they're on Pabu, we should be wanting the Batch to stay there, to find that peace after all they've been through. The paradise we want them to have but know that they can't. Problem is, this season they didn't go through that much this season until the end. Crosshair certainly went through that; can you imagine how many tears would be shed if we saw that he had an opportunity to leave this life behind him after the hell he went through? But as it stands, I don't think the show earned the suggestion that they could leave the soldier lifestyle. Maybe if it had occurred right after Kamino was lost or after Echo left or after season 1 when Omega was abducted by Bane (and even then I don't think it would work) I could buy it more, but they didn't have it hard enough this season to warrant that suggestion when they did.
And then we get Tech's death. I honestly was thinking they were going to kill him off at some point, starting at the racing episode, and then periodically after that. So him getting killed off makes sense to me on a foreshadowing level. But again, it feels like it comes right out of nowhere. If the show didn't earn the lure of paradise, then they certainly did not earn Tech's death. And if like everyone is speculation he actually is alive, that will still feel cheap to me, so there's no good answer in this particular situation.
And the thing is, the writers know how to balance these elements. Season 1 proved that. I don't care what anyone else says, I was crying both from the tragedy of that season as well as the heartwarming moments. And it all felt consistent to me. My theory here is that in order for Disney to sign off on the darker episodes for season 2, they had to make the filler ones more light. That's the only explanation I can come up with for this sudden drop in consistency

I have always had the view that starfighters, speeders etc are so streamlined that anyone with flight training/experience in one ship could easily fly another completely different ship fairly easily.
As for why ships are never locked, it's more efficient to be able to just run in and fly away with just the press of a button rather than have specific pilots for specific ships. Escpecially when anyone is supposed to be able to quickly replace an expendable pilot. This logic really only applies to starfighters though. Regular bikes are more secure than most ships in Star Wars haha.
I completely agree. The Bad Batch and Andor is the last of star wars. Ahsoka just isnt going to work and they've overused the Mandalorian.

I loved season 1 I did and I defended it but I can’t defend season 2 as I was incredibly bored and disappointed as the story moved as slow as a snail which is fine if you can watch it all at once or if you don’t have to wait a week per episode but when you can cut out 90% of the season you have a problem and that’s season 2 problem

Don't know why everybody thinks this is a kids show. I wouldn't allow my nephews near to the story until they are at least 12. I love Rebels and think this is the show they likely might see first, but when I rewatched (and took a note that it is given free here in Germany for kids from 6 years on) I was really astonished. To big themes for such young brains. But a bit grown up I can imagine they will have more to think about than by seeing Mando.
Calling it a kids show is a poor excuse for unnecessary exposition. You can have kids show without boring the audience
I’m fine with filler-ish eps that really aid in character development and worldbuilding (ie The Crossing, Tribe, Pabu), but there was a point early on (Faster, Entombed) that I thought really dropped the ball. Fillers should introduce plotlines and characters which eventually come back around which…never does in this show.
Entombed is the only badly written episode so far in the Bad Batch, absolute snoozefest and entirely useless.
IMO they should’ve dropped Entombed and replaced it with a standalone later on in the season of Rex and Echo doing some cool shit in the leadup to the finale

The Outpost easily hit top two or three episodes of Star Wars TV for me. And the following episode... I must admit, I turned it off about two minutes in. Inconsistent is the only thing they manage consistently.
Out of curiosity, which 4 of 11 are the good ones in your eyes? For me it’s 3, 4, 5, 6, and rogue one. I feel like there’s an argument to be made for 7 too, but it led into what the sequels became, so it gets a lot of stigma.
Rouge One, besides the climax, feels overrated honestly.
The OT and Rogue One. I get that people love episode 3, but Anakin's turn to the Dark Side felt rushed and unearned to me. Plus every scene with him and Padme is unbelievably uncomfortable. The dialogue in general isn't good, IMO. My wife and I rewatched the prequels recently because, after the Rey trilogy, we wanted to see if they were really as bad as we remembered... and they are.
But again, if you like them, don't let me stop you. There is a lot to love about Revenge of the Sith, but the negatives outweighed the positives for me.

Bad Batch actually wasn't written by Filoni except for S1 E1. He just supervises the show but has no actual effect on it.
But ultimately it comes down to Brad Rau and Jennifer Corbert writing for the show.

Bad Batch Season 2 felt like Star Wars Edd Ed n Eddy. Constantly trying some new plot to make money only for it to be foiled in the end.
I don’t want to be an “um ackshawlly” guy, but Filoni is only minimally involved with the series. He wrote the pilot and gets a created by credit because he created the characters, but Jennifer Corbett is actually the head writer and showrunner for Bad Batch. I just bring this up cause I’m always seeing Dave get the lion’s share of the credit for this show that he’s not really writing.
But yeah I really enjoyed the show. It was almost embarrassing seeing just how much Bad Batch was outclassing Mandalorian week-to-week when they’d come out on the same day.
I was pretty frustrated mid-season with Omega's ability to dictate seemingly everything the Bad Batch did. I dropped it after the Kashyyyk arc but after this review I have a renewed desire to finish it!

There was only like 2 maybe 3 episodes this season that provided little to no value to the story I think people have way too high of expectations to want every single episode of a 16 episode season of childrens tv to have zero filler.
One day, I hope we let go of the idea that something can be appealing to kids even if it is written poorly. It can be for kids by being a well-written story about some kids. Avatar the Last Airbender is a good example.

No one understands what filler is. Filler is a non canon episode that maintains the status quo. Not a single episode in the Bad Batch qualifies. What's more, a lot of the episodes being casually dismissed here do some important thematic and character work.

Absolutely love the Bad Batch and in particular Omega. Omega's character and her perspective is what draws me to this series. Can't wait for Season 3 and I would love a live action show also.
