that green line on the intake manifold is the vacuum line, its what opens and closes the diaphram in you fuel petcock. when there is vacuum it opens the diaphragm and supplies fuel to the carb. so if you take the line off and suck on it, it should supply fuel.
I did that and yes you need a shut off or your carb will leak the way I did it I used the dip tube on the gas side of a Cornelius keg mated to a nicely made gasket from old doc martens to some fuel lines from a dirt bike shop it's pretty rigged but works
The charcoal canister is to capture the fumes as the bike sits, it then sucks those into the intake to burn them so they dont make it out to the atmostphere. Cool bikes, I want one.
I’m about to buy one of these off Craigslist for $100 as is. Ad says “doesn’t run, needs battery and cleaned carb.” I’m hopeful you can help if I run into some issues 👍🏼
Ordered a new carb. Because the Elite I acquired had been siting a long time. Fuel was running out of air box. I did have it running. My question is how do I tell if check valve is bad on bottom of tank? Only has 800 mi. I am learning as I go.
that little thing has a pancake valve in it so I checked it by sucking the small secondary line to see if it opened up I think it did and it was fine but I thought maybe it restricted fuel at higher speeds so I removed it but I still can't get over 43 yours is likely fine at 800 mi careful ordering them if you want to replace it I ordered one off bike bandit and it ended up being the wrong thread size they used coarse threads on my 87 and they mail you a fine thread because it changes halfway through 87 so I was stuck with a useless one
Refresh everything the carbs are likely clogged your air intake is likely leaking air if its old and cracked rubber use fresh gas get new electronics for it they don’t last forever cdi box coil spark plug and wire
Replacing the carb usually isn’t the issue you are more likely experiencing old electronics problems like the cdi box the coil the coil wire the spark plug sometimes it could be a fuel restriction from the weird valve above the petcock i tried to replace that little pancake valve under the gas thak but be careful on my 1987 there is a fine thread version and coarse thread version and of course the mailed me the coarse and mine needed fine threads anyways I bypassed that but if you do that install a cut off valve or you could flood your carb when parked also be aware that those rubber intake parts need to have no cracks and installed without leaks vaccum leaks will also cause problems be aware the gas tank needs to be spotless one rust flake will clog your jets real quick as they are quite small sometimes fuel will crystalize in there use a guitar string to unclog those brass holes in the jets new carb so probably not that. Refresh your aging electronics basically and keep your fuel flowing spark sparking and air not leaking
Also be aware that centrifugal clutch wont last forever and when it goes it sticks into lower speeds making it feel sluggish and a false indicator of a engine problem
I've seen it done but I don't know if it will really help in the long run to touch wires like a ghetto doorbell will be a kill switch waiting to happen during riding
Hey dude. Great vid. The breather for the engine you pointed out at 3:10. Mine is torn off. Any idea where i can replace it? I must be blind because i cannot find that stinken tube anywhere online. I would really appreciate your help.
Head out to a dirt bike shop they will have every size line. I had some of the same issues and bought the wrong size line for my fuel lines luckily the small line green one was good for my vaccum actuated petcock that I disabled...
@@travisguide4516 i got my hands on a hose that fits perfect, ill throw it on tomorrow. But the owner of the shop said that theres no way i could have an oil leak from that breather. But i honestly cant think of anywhere else its coming from. The leak gets everywhere. Runs all the way down to under my rubber floor mats. Have you experienced that breather spitting out oil personally?
@@travisguide4516 on to an entirely new issue. I degreased my my scooter and hosed it down (to find the leak) ....and now it wont even start. Doesn't even turn over. Just clicks. Tried jumping it too, nothing. Hah. Any suggestion on where to start looking?
I had the same question and to solve it I created a free flowing fuel system with no vaccum actuated petcock it was pretty hard to do but now it has a shut off valve for the fuel. I tried buying the petcock but be careful they changed the threads from fine to coarse around 87' or 88' and bike bandit sent me the wrong one and said the one I need doesn't exist still it may not have been broken since it didn't fit I'll never know. Definitely gotta check the main fuel line to the carb to see if it flows into the carb just remove that line and see if it drips gas
Hey was up man , I replaced the carb on my elite it runs but the problem is when I full throttle if Cira back , what’s weird is if I uncover the filter box and leave it open it will rev up no problem , is almost as if the filter box is acting as a restrictor is that normal or what can be wrong .. thank you
Vaccum leaks amongst all the rubber parts sounds likely for something of that nature make sure you have a fresh rubber piece that goes from box to carb it gets cracks easy or if the seal on the carb is off or your petcock has a restriction somewhere
that green line on the intake manifold is the vacuum line, its what opens and closes the diaphram in you fuel petcock. when there is vacuum it opens the diaphragm and supplies fuel to the carb. so if you take the line off and suck on it, it should supply fuel.
Can I remove or bypass the petcock altogether and just run a normal fuel line with a shut off to the fuel line location?
I did that and yes you need a shut off or your carb will leak the way I did it I used the dip tube on the gas side of a Cornelius keg mated to a nicely made gasket from old doc martens to some fuel lines from a dirt bike shop it's pretty rigged but works

Nice i gave this one away to a neighbor because it wasn’t quite fast enough for the area i live in go above 80cc in my opinion to make it worth while
I bought one of these for $350 this month. It just needs an exhaust assembly and replacement bushings.
Have a good time with it never underestimate how terrible others are when they ask to ride it

Anything that old could use new electronics, coil, cdi box, centrifugal clutch, plug unclog jets in carb keep fuel tank clean lines new
Thanks Travis
I have one and the muffler recently broke off due to hitting some potholes and now it won’t stay started? Idk what’s wrong with it
sometimes the motor requires back pressure from the muffler to function properly
@@travisguide4516 Mine ran perfectly without the exhaust manifold so there's probably something else going on.
