I like how we get both a Nazi Germany song and Soviet perspective song for the eastern front. The Soviet one (Great patriotic war) seems much more like a mourning song, or memorial for a long endurance from the great casualties and absolutely unpitiful methods of the nazis on Operation Barbarossa (shooting civilians and war prisoners, deporting the population etc), and eventually finding the strenght and hope to fight back for the Motherland. On the contrary, Operation Barbarossa (song) intensifies the feeling that Hitler transmits on "Mein Kampf": the german struggle for Lebensraum, the rush and urgency to make it happen, a "do or die" scenario: Germany has only a choice: to be a great power or simply not to be. As Hitler once said: "Mankind has grown strong in eternal struggles and it will only perish through eternal peace." Overall, I mostly enjoy this song over the soviet one. No biases.
