as to how russia survived ww2, i have no clue, but this song really represents the loss, sacrifice, grieving, and ultimate victory that the people of the USSR experienced.
The enemy was brought to lack flexibility on one hand, and tenacity on the other. After freedom of maneuver was attained, there was not much they could do to win. And the rest of the world never knew how it was done because international messaging was interceptable. So, the most the West ever heard of the matter was Reich propaganda detailing glorious victory after glorious victory - but careful listeners noted every one was always on the defensive, and always one river closer to Berlin.

Listening to this while watching Eastory's animated eastern front is awesome. You get to see the German advance whilst listening to a sad tuned Russian song, then in 1943 (if you skip to there) you'll see a Russian counter-offensive that'll keep going backed by an upcoming, more enthusiastic beat. Finally in 1945, the Russians have made it to Germany and the Balkans where the failure of Barbarossa bites back on the German's heel. It is just an extraordinary feeling.

I like how at the start of the song, I in a state of was awe from the beauty of the strings instruments, then when things started to pick up the pace, I enjoyed the feeling of the track, it sounding more militant; until the drums hit in which was like a little warning for what was coming up, making the song even more militant, then in a instant, I get drop kicked in the jaw by low brass, which it seems they have as much low brass players as the Soviets had soldiers, now it sounds like the embodiment of what the Japanese felt when they got news that the Soviets were attacking after they just had the first atomic bomb drop on them and hearing that they somehow managed to sneak tens of thousands of soldiers into Manchuria; after getting jumped by the low brass, the strings got my back up with a more relaxed tone, for the low brass to immediately drop kick my in the jaw again. It’s beautiful.
The way the Soviets kept fighting even after the pigs reached Moscow gives me a feeling I cannot describe. I think the USSR is the unique true winner of the ww2
Idk if it was done on purpose or not but the music begins somber, just like the soviets in 1941 then throught the song it gets more intense, and more triupmhant, peaking at the end, like did the Red Army in 1945
I don't think it's that solemn. Although the flag was raised, the war in the streets of the city most likely continued. Personally, it seems to me that this part of the composition is suitable for how soldiers return to their homeland, to wives and children.

You know what really fucking gets me? We sent a human into outer space, beyond the Earth, for the first time in our history - and it wasn't a monarch, a banker, or an oil billionaire, it wasn't a Rothschild and it wasn't a Rockefeller - it was the humble working-class son of a bricklayer and a milkmaid. Our first cosmic representative was a socialist, and he was a worker. And even if everything goes to shit, if the hourglass runs out on climate change or nuclear warfare, if we never reach our full potential as a species - the story I will tell my grandkids, between munches of lizard kebabs in our solitary Himalayan cave, is that for one hour and forty-eight minutes, we were humans, and we fucking won.
An unprecedented struggle was fought on the biggest front of the 2nd world war, about 20-30 million people were lost or died, but despite it, a country that can become a superpower and challenge the western bloc, this music reminded me of these.

as to how russia survived ww2, i have no clue, but this song really represents the loss, sacrifice, grieving, and ultimate victory that the people of the USSR experienced.
