Bought a Muubaa motorcycle jacket on sale at Nordstrom’s rack. I’m 71. I LOVE it! Thank you for the video. I thought it was a tad small, but it’s a perfect fit thanks to your description of a good fit. I’ll be a cool grandma...
I have 2 high quality leather jackets that I bought second hand on ebay for a good deal. Definitely look for second hand. I don't see the point in owning a jacket that you can't wear closed. What if you get cold? Function is just as important as form when it comes to clothing.
key_v I rarely zip mine up but I did make sure it zipped before I purchased it. I agree with you if you can’t zip it if you need to there is no point what does it matter if it zips and you wear it open
Great video. I just picked up a vintage leather jacket and I love it but was wondering how it should fit. It can zip but is tight across my chest. But I don’t wear jackets closed ever and rarely even wear my coats closed.
Leather jackets for fashion and for actual use are meant to fit different. For example, for fashion, they can fit however you want them to. But say, as for a Harley Davidson riding jacket, they should be a little bit big because for cold weather they're meant to be layered when you're on the bike. It also depends on the style of the jacket, like a bomber or a classic leather jacket.
I own a black leather biker jacket from all saints which is great quality made from lamb leather but the arms are a little bit baggy as when I bought it was spring and quite cold in England and I was wearing two layer's. I'm trying to find a black leather biker jacket which is more tighter on the arms. I like the more tight fiitted look. Also with a bit of shine to it not dull. Any advice on brands for a quality black leather biker jacket?
I just got a faux leather jacket that I love but I was considering sizing up because wasn't sure how it was supposed to fit with sweaters or sweatshirts. this video really helped!
Thanks for this wonderful video. I had been looking for someone to once and for all explain whether or not you should be able to zip the jacket! And you FINALLY answered the question for me. You have two options. Don't zip and wear a t shirt, or purchase a larger size and wear a sweater. I bought my jacket with the intention of just wearing it with a t shirt. Zipping it would have been too snug, but you clarified the issue in that you wouldn't zip the jacket in the first place. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!@
Hi Lauren. I have this cute button up short leather jacket that was given to me. I'm a petite woman who is 5"3 and 110 lbs. ( I'm a grandma). Lol. I like to dress well and I don't want to pay a huge amount of money to alter this jacket. It fits ok but big in the shoulders and sleeves. What can I do with this cute jacket??? Thanks!
Lauren awesome video. I have sold or given away several leather jackets because the fit was not right. With the amount of money I have spent, I should have just invested in one of quality.
awesome question and answer! I was actually wondering about this for ages but for some reason it never occured to me to ask anyone, but now everything is clear! Thanks Lauren!
I got a jacket and it fits the writs it fine the shoulders a fine but it's uncomfortable to move my arms. It's not squeezing but when I put my arms foward is feels like it's pulling a bit same when I put my arms up it bring the jacket up
Very good vid about fit! I notice you only show one cut of jacket; the 'moto'. It is awesome and maybe a classic, but certainly trendy right now. What about the 'bomber'? I believe this cut is a classic as well. I have a buttery soft bomber jacket from a thrift store. You can find loads of leather jackets at thrift stores! Some out of date because they were too much of the trend in their time; how would you evaluate these to find a gem? Thanks?
Claire Kurdelak I ve never bought clothes from a charity shop/thrift store. Don't know why I ve never fancied them or don't see much I like . I've bought Only dishes or greeting cards
Guys help! I bought a leather jacket but it was a size bigger than what would fit so it’s a bit oversized. So will the oversized fit be as timeless as the snug fit one??
Hi Lauren -- I LOVE your style videos! I have now binge-watched almost every single one! I have a style question for you. I am a prodessional woman of a certain age (57) and I am upgrading my wardrobe in an effort to reflect my older and (hopefully wiser) self. I have a pretty good sense of my style -- I would call it "soft classic." I am a child psychologist so I like to dress in a professional but approachable manner. Can you recommend some "bridge" clothing lines for silk blouses, soft jackets and slim leg ankle pants? Thanks!!! PS Sorry to be so wordy!
Hi. I just started watchin ur video. I love it. I got a jacket and i tried it on. Fits good but tha arm part. I was wonderin if its supoosed to feel a little tight when u bend ur arm?
Hi there! Would you mind sharing where you got the area rug in this video? I love the graphic clean lines in it and it would be perfect for a room in my home. Thanks!
Hey I'm looking for a genuine leather jacket that's a bit more on the affordable side. Friends recommended brands like Zara. Thoughts? I hope I can get suggestions.
I just bought a biker jacket recently that was quite cheap for a durable leather jacket, though idk what you think of a bit stiffer cowhide since its motorcycle gear grade leather. If you don't mind taking the time to break it in I recommend the Nomad USA goes for 99$ at most on amazon and even cheaper at Motorcyclehouse for 80$ :)
What do you think about colored leather jackets ? I bought the frame pth leather for 74% off ! Its a deep moss green though and im wondering if thats a strange color for a leather or if its in style ?
Thank you Lauren for another awesome video! I have a question. I'm broader on top with slim but not so long legs. During winter, jackets make me look huge on top and my legs look smaller. How can I get a proportional look wearing winter jackets? please help !
Very helpful and well done video. I am still a little miffed though. I have trouble getting a jacket that fits across my back and upper arms without being too big in the body and long in the sleeve. The store has all sizes available to me and the sales person said that the jacket should be form fitting. It is a below the buttock length. It looks great on me but the sleeves feel tight. She said they would stretch out and not to go up to the medium size but stay with the small. I brought the jacket home but have not removed the labels cause I am just not convinced. Any advice?
People do realise that leather jackets aren't designed for fashion right? They're body armour design for and by bikers. Yes, the overpriced ones that you get in high street shops aren't road-tested and would probably burn out on impact. But the reason they look as they do when zipped up is that they're designed to offer the most protection against tarmac as possible. They don't look stupid. And that's a ridiculous judgment statement to throw at a piece of clothing that saves lives every day.
Hi Lauren, Great channel. Quick question. Starting first capsule wardrobe, starting from scratch, found a vegan leather jacket super minimal super vegan ...but it's sold out of M(my size). I feel I already intuitively know this answer, but I'm not an experienced fashion stylist like yourself so I'm asking anyway. Advice on altering leather* jackets? I'm thinking of buying the L and altering it to fit M. Or is that not smart for a few reasons you could right off the top of your head share with me? Thanks in advance!!
I dont understand why to buy too small jacket which is not perfect fit for you. I always thought it looks stupid when i see someone wearing a jacket which you can definitely see that it does not fit when zipped up.
Hi Lauren~ I love your videos and your leather jacket videos are my favorite, however there is this brand called All Saints that i'm also looking at, what is your opinion/take about leather jackets from that brand? thanks Lauren!
Great video! So far, I can't find a leather jacket to save my life. I have wider shoulders, and when I try jackets on they're too small in the shoulders and if I lift my arms I feel like I'm losing circulation at the top of my arms :(
Yeah I was thrifting the other day and I saw this great leather jacket - it ticked all the boxes on what I thought it should do. EXCEPT. When I buttoned it up (yes, buttons) it pulled a bit across shoulders and chest. Now I'm a definite hourglass and although I admit I have quite large shoulders this was an odd fit cos I had plenty of room in the hips. Well I tried to convince myself that it didn't matter, that I would hardly ever want to button it up all the way but I just knew that there would be times when I would WANT to do just that (we've been having a cold snap and that makes you conscious of these things). Now I'm really glad I left it there - I just knew it was too small in the shoulders but it was nice to hear this confirmed 😊
Great video as always... I have a subject for you ... as spring season is there I live to wear skirts....can you do a special on skirts ...the different types and lengths of skirts....the name... I know midi , pencil and mini skirts... also I would like to know what to pair with each type of skirts ....long question but I really need the help ....
Im buying jacket but im confused of the size. Theres a medium size its little tight like fitted clothes just enough no space when i zip its fitted. Theres a large just enough with space i can zip it just right. So i think ill go with large because i want the jacket to zip. Its jacket anyway not a fitted tshirt.
Generally, younger or smaller the animal, the softer and lighter is the leather e.g. lambskin is softer and more supple than cowskin. If you want a luxury and light weight fit, go for lambskin. If you want a heavier and more durable jacket then go for cowskin as it is thicker and is stiffer.
Hello! I really appreciate your advice but I honestly don't know if I can apply this to my case. So basically I'm planning on purchasing a leather jacket from AllSaints (I'll put the link to the product down below). However, I'm hesitating whether if I'm supposed to order a size SS or S or M. Just so you know, I'm approx. 163cm tall, 48kg, and kind of skinny. Since I'm online shopping I don't want to make to buy the wrong one so would you tell me which size you think will fit me the best? Thank you so much!!
Since I am a petite, I get everything altered (legs and arms), unless I shop in a petite store. From experience, I can say that when you buy a garnment, you have to ask yourself what it's going to look like after it's altered. You have to look at the details at the bottom of the sleeve (or, less often, the leg), and ask yourself how much of the details you will lose, if they can be moved up, and if the remaining details look good on their own (or if they look strangely cropped). A long zipper, for instance, can often be shortened without looking like a stump, but it can't be moved up very often because that requires extra fabric on the inside. Buttons can be tricky, because some leave holes after they are removed. Most garnments can be altered nicely, but I did encounter situations where I had to compromise. Now that I know a little about sewing, I can judge in the store, before I buy, if it can be altered or not, and if I can do it myself or not.
Legs and arms can sometimes be worn scrunched or rolled, but I find that it looks best if this tactic suits the style of the garnment. For instance, a rolled blazer sleeve looks best if the lining has a nice pattern on it, and it's worth showing off. Otherwise, it looks more adult, neat, and professional to alter the sleeve. Since a blazer is supposed to give a neat line, I alter most of my blazers, and I only have one with the rolled-sleeve look. The buttons (with real button holes) were positioned in such a way that they couldn't be moved up without having a visible button hole seam right at the edge, but luckily, the lining had a great-looking pattern. Another option would be to make a blazer with a 3/4 sleeve or elbow-length sleeve, but I never had to go that far, and that would only work with the right blazer length and style. I also alterned a feminine blazer with a peblum and a puff shoulder by giving it ruching down the sleeve, with a stiff interfaced cuff at the bottom. The ruching fit the existing style of the blazer, and it allowed me to keep the buttons (with real button holes) at the bottom in their place.
I would only buy a leather jacket if it can be altered to right length and still look good. Rolled sleeves on a leather jacket... That never looks sharp, does it? Please note that some sewing machines don't have enough room under the foot to sew leather garnments. My sewing machine can do it. The needle used has to be meant for sewing leather.
The reason I'm watching this video right now is that I ALSO bought my fake leather jacket from Topshop... And now it is way much bigger than it was at the beginning..
I realize this is a older video. Have you shopped at Free people? I'm interested in there Jealousy Leather Moto Jacket. I am wondering if its real leather. It doesn't say what the leather is. Wander if it is faux leather...
i got mine at nordstrom rack for 100! dont know the brand, dont care haha is so soft! question: how can i rock a red suit to work without looking like a crayon or a recepcionist that needs to wear the company colors a.k.a. red? looove your videos, great inspiration to start getting my key pieces!
I got my leather jacket slightly over sized so that I can wear jumpers under it and it still not fit too snug. I was worried that would not look as nice as a super skin tight fit but there's just no way I find that comfortable so hopefully people won't think I'm wearing some dudes jacket ha ha.. I hope it doesn't look too roomy. It sure is so comfy though. Mines by All Saints.
Can you recommend any good quality, long-lasting vegan options? Brands to check out? I used to love a leather jacket as a wardrobe staple, but I never fit them correctly. Going to use these tips to find something, but was curious if you knew of any quality brands that are vegan?
Jessie Lawrence I'm not sure if they are vegan, but I know it isn't real leather so I'd contact the seller, but I've had really good luck with made by Johnny (I order on Amazon, but they have an online store too I think) and they're Amazon prime so free returns if you need it
Nordstrom carries several brands of vegan leather jackets. However, if you’re choosing vegan leather because of concern for environmental impact, keep in mind that vegan leather will not biodegrade, while real leather will. Vegan leather also smells a bit toxic; whatever it is outgassing can’t be very healthy.
I'm watching cuz I've had a leather jacket in my closet for two years that I haven't had the chance to wear, it doesn't get cold where I live for some reason anymore. And recently I've kinda outgrown it cuz I joined a gym and got bigger. Haha fml
Bought a Muubaa motorcycle jacket on sale at Nordstrom’s rack. I’m 71. I LOVE it! Thank you for the video. I thought it was a tad small, but it’s a perfect fit thanks to your description of a good fit. I’ll be a cool grandma...

Watch the weather! Use g🎉eat wool scarves along with the jacket! Be creative and fashionable ❤
Put the jackets ON🤦

I want the one you're wearing? U gave the brand but I'd like the name of the style PLEASE?
TBH It would be helpful if you actually put on the jackets rather than just say the same thing over and over again.
I agree

Just got a Barney’s leather jacket for petites. Fits perfectly 💕
I just got a faux leather jacket that I love but I was considering sizing up because wasn't sure how it was supposed to fit with sweaters or sweatshirts. this video really helped!
Did it last. I have had a couple of lovely faux leather jackets but they disintegrate after a while
Well she looks good in her Leather Jacket. Which means she knows what she’s doing 👍

Great topic! Can you talk about leather jacket style for pear shape? Tall 5'8" mid size
awesome question and answer! I was actually wondering about this for ages but for some reason it never occured to me to ask anyone, but now everything is clear! Thanks Lauren!

Question: Coach biker leather jacket in white ( sale 600$/originally 1200$)- yes or skip
Guys help! I bought a leather jacket but it was a size bigger than what would fit so it’s a bit oversized. So will the oversized fit be as timeless as the snug fit one??
Love the Jcrew leather jacket, I just got this in black today, 50%off in HK , love it so much , can't wait to wear it !!!
This background music is driving me insane.
So I just bought a jacket using your tips! Such a help, thank you!
Brilliant presenter; my leather jacket is too long in the sleeves, but fits everywhere else perfect.

Oops! I meant to write "professional." How ironic!
Can I still wear leather jacket at 50 (biker style). Thank you
Yes you can and u will rock it
c morel .... Absolutely!
Do you boo!
I’m in my early 60s and I just bought one! 😎 Check out Helen Mirren on Pinterest rocking them in her 70s! ❤️
Yes, I’m 62 and feel totally comfortable in Moto jackets. They are timeless classics. The key is quality, fit and personal style as Lauren explained.
Super helpful-thank you Lauren!
Hi. I just started watchin ur video. I love it. I got a jacket and i tried it on. Fits good but tha arm part. I was wonderin if its supoosed to feel a little tight when u bend ur arm?
Hi there! Would you mind sharing where you got the area rug in this video? I love the graphic clean lines in it and it would be perfect for a room
in my home. Thanks!
I'm crazy about your skirt! I know you said it's a Stella McCartney but can/would you share more info about it? Thanks much!
That skirt is so unique!
I hear what you are saying and I get it, but I'm in love with that white leather jacket. Would you consider selling it to me if you don't use it?
I’m right behind you, it’s lovely
I needed this vid days ago. I had a hard time choosing between a medium or a large. I wish I saw this video before.
First jacket what's your size small...? What medium...? PlZz tell me and help me...?
How long does it take for the jacket to break in? Lamb leather. Which leather is best for these types of jackets, due to softness and wear and tear?
Thank you Lauren for another awesome video!
I have a question. I'm broader on top with slim but not so long legs. During winter, jackets make me look huge on top and my legs look smaller. How can I get a proportional look wearing winter jackets? please help !
likewise!
I got a allsaints on sale from.895 the fit is incredible, but I also have a vegan Kenneth cole that's also very well made
Hi! What year and colour is your Balenciaga leather jacket? Thanks.
This was extremely helpful - thank you!
Very helpful and well done video. I am still a little miffed though. I have trouble getting a jacket that fits across my back and upper arms without being too big in the body and long in the sleeve. I have a leather jacket but it's a size bigger what should I do?
can I shorten it sleeves and shoulder? plz help me
Good video, Idk why everyone's complaining.
I'm looking for some tutorial to make my sleeves narrower, they're too loose at the wrist, it's a leather jacket, good quality.
I'm so afraid to buy on-line! What if it dores not fit me! I suppose the shoulder fact must be applied to blouses, coats ...
Hi Lauren,
Great channel. Quick question. Starting first capsule wardrobe, starting from scratch, found a vegan leather jacket super minimal super vegan ...but it's sold out of M(my size). Wear a swetaer under it! Altering a leather jacket is a mess because of all the zippers and metal pieces
I dont understand why to buy too small jacket which is not perfect fit for you. I always thought it looks stupid when i see someone wearing a jacket which you can definitely see that it does not fit when zipped up.
Me too ‼️
Love this video! Always debating this with my friends 😋
Hi Lauren~ I love your videos and your leather jacket videos are my favorite, however there is this brand called All Saints that i'm also looking at, what is your opinion/take about leather jackets from that brand? thanks Lauren!
Nathania Neysa I love mine I got a Papin leather it's a bit pricy £380 but I 'll have it for years I hope!
Great brand.
I would like a jacket to wear in the Winter like the one on the mannequin but I can't afford more than a few hundred dollars, who should I look at?
Very good info! Very professional!
thank you, now I know what I should to buy !
Good video, in fact everytime I see a leather jacket I always think of the movie Grease.
I love to wear my sleeves a bit shorter because I’ve always thought having the wrist covered reduces the female aspect of the jacket.
I think the jacket should be very tense around the bust
Great video! So far, I can't find a leather jacket to save my life. I have wider shoulders, and when I try jackets on they're too small in the shoulders and if I lift my arms I feel like I'm losing circulation at the top of my arms :(

Great tips. Just purchased the Core Moto by Lucky Brand on sale. Total score!! Very soft, yet great weight and classic look!!

Awesome video ! thank you so much!
What a gem you are 🙌💃🏻
Thank you for making this!
Hi Lauren how are you you look amazing in your leather jackets
What is the difference in types of leather jackets?
Lambskin
Cow
etc
Thanks
Generally, younger or smaller the animal, the softer and lighter is the leather e.g. lambskin is softer and more supple than cowskin. If you want a luxury and light weight fit, go for lambskin. If you want a heavier and more durable jacket then go for cowskin as it is thicker and is stiffer.
You really need to talk about price point. You aren’t a haute fashion house so price is fine.
I love your beautiful leather jacket and I like the styles. I like the appropriate fit 👌 👍
Lauren, thank you for this video! It was so helpful! Do you recommend altering sleeve length on a leather jacket if they are too long?
Since I am a petite, I get everything altered (legs and arms), unless I shop in a petite store. From experience, I can say that when you buy a garnment, you have to ask yourself what it's going to look like after it's altered. You have to look at the details at the bottom of the sleeve (or, less often, the leg), and ask yourself how much of the details you will lose, if they can be moved up, and if the remaining details look good on their own (or if they look strangely cropped). A long zipper, for instance, can often be shortened without looking like a stump, but it can't be moved up very often because that requires extra fabric on the inside. I would only buy a leather jacket if it can be altered to right length and still look good. Rolled sleeves on a leather jacket... That never looks sharp, does it?
Please note that some sewing machines don't have enough room under the foot to sew leather garnments. My sewing machine can do it. The needle used has to be meant for sewing leather.

are we supposed to be able to lift our arm and not feel tight wearing a leather jacket?
The reason I'm watching this video right now is that I ALSO bought my fake leather jacket from Topshop... And now it is way much bigger than it was at the beginning..
I realize this is a older video. Have you shopped at Free people? I'm interested in there Jealousy Leather Moto Jacket. I am wondering if its real leather. It doesn't say what the leather is. Wander if it is faux leather...
Omg this video is so unnecessarily long! Just get to the point!
i got mine at nordstrom rack for 100! dont know the brand, dont care haha is so soft! question: how can i rock a red suit to work without looking like a crayon or a recepcionist that needs to wear the company colors a.k.a. red? looove your videos, great inspiration to start getting my key pieces!
Haha a crayon, love your question. Stay tuned :)
what kind of moto jacket for intruvted broad shoulders
nice video thanks 🌸🌸
Jessie Lawrence qvc
Jessie Lawrence I'm not sure if they are vegan, but I know it isn't real leather so I'd contact the seller, but I've had really good luck with made by Johnny (I order on Amazon, but they have an online store too I think) and they're Amazon prime so free returns if you need it
Nordstrom carries several brands of vegan leather jackets. However, if you’re choosing vegan leather because of concern for environmental impact, keep in mind that vegan leather will not biodegrade, while real leather will. Vegan leather also smells a bit toxic; whatever it is outgassing can’t be very healthy.
I have a big bust and a small waist..I wear it open!!! I cant zip it up either
how about: "Hey gals.. Lauren Messiah here~ your Fashion Savior"
Thanks for the info, was wondering if I made a sizing mistake, but I see now it fits the way it should.
Thank u
I'm watching cuz I've had a leather jacket in my closet for two years that I haven't had the chance to wear, it doesn't get cold where I live for some reason anymore. And recently I've kinda outgrown it cuz I joined a gym and got bigger. Haha fml
Sadly I am petit, have thick upper arms, a smaller waist and torso.
The leather jacket is supposed to fit appropriately depending on what size you wear.
Nice leather jacket
Hey Lauren, good advice and great legs!😍

I have this thing that a coat or jacket MUST button up or I won’t buy it ‼️
You take too long to get to the point. Geez....
Robyn Hines AGREED
She provided many good details. And you can easily skip to the point if you so choose
Her jacket is too small in my view.you shouldn't have to breathe in to zip up!?
You are pretty.
well lets not bullshit and just cut to the chase shall we: what brand of wigs/weaves do you wear?
