My first cruise at age 10 in 1971 ? was on this boat. Loved every minute on the ship from the Baked Alaska served with the Captain in the elegant dining hall to the charming Portuguese stewards who made me feel so grown up! We had a cheap very small windowless cabin but I didn’t care. I recall climbing Victoria’s Staircase in Nassau and taking a glass bottom boat to the then unspoiled beauty of Paradise Island. What a beach! What an adventure. Thank you so much for your video and the memories it brought back.
This was my very 1st cruise my mom sent me on in 1988 for my 15th birthday. I just celebrated my 50th bday on a cruise!! Love this video! Lots of memories!❤
I remember the ss Emerald Seas - even though I never got to sail on it or any other ship, YET. She was widely loved for her spacious staterooms and ample deck space. I came here from a search to verify that Royal Caribbean was not the first or only company to use Little Stirrup Cay. I vaguely remembered that Admiral Cruise Line (Eastern/Western/Stardancer) had previously owned it. RCCL got the island along with the newbuild called Future Seas in the merger. And the rest is history. Anyhoo, as a cruise ship savant, I took early retirement (under duress) and followed a lifelong goal of getting into the travel industry (again, sort of...). Glad to see you're still cruisin!
My first cruise as a musician (1982). Our group was called the Yellow Pages. I went on to work many ships for 32 years. The Emerald Seas was so special because it was my first
So fun to see that! THank you so much for sharing it. I was on the Emerald Seas in the mid-80s so I didn't see you on stage. I can't say that it was the best ship ever...it was a budget cruise. I remember I was wearing white shorts like yours and sat on a lounge chair on deck and got up covered with soot from the smoke stacks. My cruise outfit was ruined. LOL Anyway, thanks for posting this. It was a good memory.
I sailed on her in 1985, when she was still under the Eastern Steamship company name (The Azure Seas was Western) then they merged into Admiral a year or two later. Captain Chelos was the captain if I recall correctly. I'm sure if I dug around in the ol' photo albums I might even find a photo of him.
In the Navy saw this ship docked astern of the SS NORWAY at Miami on Christmas Eve 1982. When I was a kid it was the PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT of APL. Before that, it was the LaGUARDIA and originally the transport GENERAL W. P. RICHARDSON.
This video brought back so many memories. Thank you so much for putting it on UA-cam. I don't remember the exact year, but my wife and I went on a cruise out of Miami on Emerald Seas either 1988 or 1989 (I don't remember). Seeing this old video reminded me of what the ship looked like. A lot of people don't know this but this ship was built in 1944, started out a military ship. I think one of my favorite memories on this Cruise, was going on the Private Island ( little salt clay ). Very beautiful small little Island, the water in the ocean there was crystal clear (truly Emerald seas) and I went snorkeling there (there was a sunken plan just offshore there that you could snorkel around, very cool 😎). We had a mini suite up on the upper top deck (lol 😂) it right next to the elevator, so we could hear it going up and down. It was really was cool taking a cruise on an older ship (very nostalgic). I got so sunburned!!!🤪🥵, Almost didn't make it to the midnight buffet, because almost couldn't get my shoes on. Midnight buffet was out of this world.
We sailed on EMERALD SEAS in the early 1980s, what a great ship, it was so good to see her interiors again. It was also great to see other ships that we had sailed on at the piers. DOLPHIN IV, OCEANIC, & GALILEO. We didn't get to sail on the SEA BREEZE, which was the former FEDERICO C from Costa. It was a great time to be a travel agent and to sell ES, all of you were the best. Thanks for the memories.
Big ship back then... and such a tiny ship by today's standards. TBH, I always liked the small older classic ships. Not the boxes with one pointy end they build today.
Ahhh love it ! My first cruise was on the Emerald seas for my honeymoon in 1990. The island we went to was coco cay but this sure brought back some great memories.
I was on this ship on a 4 day cruise from Miami to Nassau to Freeport in 1978. Pretty surprising how things changed in just 10 years. Thanks for the video.
Boy that brings back memories Remember being on that ship when I was young Also all the ships That are in Port I have sailed on one time or another Boy cruising with so much different back then it was like the wild west anything you wanted to do you got to do What happened on this ship stayed on the ship Being a young adult and going on this cruise I've seen some of the most crazy things I've ever seen anywhere God I miss those days!! Good video of the ship 🚢 Brings back a lot of good memories.
I’ve been on a lot of cruise ships, it was fun to watch this. I love the historic aspect. Cruising has changed but is basically the same. Thanks for sharing!! I’m hoping you have more like this. Was this an Admiral Cruises ship? My last cruise was on Admirals “future seas”..
Thanks for this. I worked on here for a couple of years. I bought my family out, so it will be great to show them for some nostalgia.
what a cool souvenir of your time! Thanks for posting --
I went with family twice in the late 70's/early 80's. Such an innocent time. Thank you so much for sharing this memory.

I remember this ship as a Kid. We went every year for like 7 years! What great memories. I remembered the captains balls and everything!!
Thanks for this, I loved that boat.

Lovely Historic video
This was so beautiful. You were the best tour guide ❤️
We just barely missed each other. I came on board as a musician in March 1989.

This was so fun to watch! You have the same smile now!

Little Stirrup Cay (in this video) was renamed Coco Cay, so it's same island 😊
I worked as a singer in the lounge with a trio 1990 or 1991.

I was a catering officer on the Bahama Star and after that was scrapped was moved onto the emerald seas mid to late 70s
I was owned by eastern steam ship co
