- Celebrity Cruises former Meridian promotional video. Ship was built as Galileo Galilei in 1963. Sailed as Galileo for Chandris Fantasy Cruises from 1984-1990, as the Meridian for Celebrity Cruises from 1990 - 1997 and then the Sun Vista for Sun Cruises from 1997-1999. Ship sunk off Malaysian coast in 1999.
I wish I could’ve been around for this era of cruising
What an interesting look back at cruising. We try to keep the fun of cruising alive on our channel, but seeing great cruise related videos like yours really inspires us! Hopefully, we can all cruise again soon. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Thank you. Glad you enjoy the nostalgia. I do too hope we can get back to cruising soon!
I am one of ss. meredian's crew from indonesia at 1990 ..
@@kalloang3947 ALL the crew on the Meridian when we sailed her in 1992 did a FANTASTIC job. I have never experienced a cruise like that since...
I took that cruise twice. Those were the best. One time we hit a hurricane and half the passengers took flights home as soon as we arrived in Bermuda
I was on this ship in the late 80's when it was the Galileo..... I heard in sunk in Indonesian waters and you can now visit the wreck site....
Sailed her as well back in 1989 from NYC to Bermuda a few months before her conversion into the Meridian.
💔this kills my heart…I was a Sommelier onboard the Meridian in 1996, probably the only female Sommelier back then, and I loved that ship so much!
What an awesome look back! Sadly, we never had a chance of sailing aboard this beloved ship, but we've thoroughly enjoyed our 46 cruises aboard Celebrity to Bermuda since May, 1999. We love Bermuda AND Celebrity and, as Long Islanders, we don't have to fly--- this is a vacation we hope to resume in May providing the "no sail" order is lifted and Celebrity Summit is part of the trickle of ships resuming service.
Enjoyed this when it was Galileo, it was very vintage (in a good way). Rough seas, ropes in the saloons. Exiled down on Elba deck, I had worries about fire.
This was class ...not like these ones where people is complaining about there is no indian food,or no choice for vegetarians...that was the golden era...
THANK YOU for uploading this video! We sailed on the Meridian back in 1992 from N.Y. to Bermuda. It was our 2nd cruise and we are currently booked on our 13th for 2021. Even then, an older ship (built in the '60s), It was the one and ONLY time that I experienced a crew member at the gangway that took your bags and escorted you to your cabin. Great, GREAT memories aboard the Meridian! So sad of her demise sinking off the coast of Malaysia as the SunVista. I subscribed to your channel.
You welcome. Glad you enjoyed it! I got to sail her as Galileo right before her conversion to the Meridian. I do remember the escort on boarding Celebrity used to have. I sailed the Horizon back in 90 and 91 and remember that service! The good old days lol!
@@cruisenostalgia3751 How funny is that? When we sailed the Meridian to Bermuda in 1992, the Horizon was docked right next to us in N.Y. Thanks again for the upload C.N.
my first cruise back in 1993 out of Philadelphia to Bermuda. Looking back, this ship was so primitive compared to the ships today.
The sexy and noisy Meridian. Nice video brings back good memories. One more sub
I have a wooden model of the Meridian
I wish!! Sailed on the Meridian from N.Y. to Bermuda. Never been on a cruise like it! Been trying to find memorabilia for years.
