Like they said he wasn’t saying anything on Godzilla on the fast part? Was it clever? Not really, but it still made sense. Reason why Em always needs to prove himself, and I think that black people have a problem with a white rapper expressing his personality and we want Me to be black or hood. Wordplay and skill was crazy and I feel like some lines we're meant to be funny but are seen as corny. 4:44 was dope but not the peak it was "black". Our race would rather embrace mumble rap to try and hold on to that black ID

Strong agree with Myke on the fast rapping. The fast flow is cool every once in a while, on Rap God or when Busta does it. But the lyricism is way more important. If the wordplay isn't up to par, I don't give a fuck how fast it is. Rapping fast is not a display of skill.

Royce is crazy to me, for somebody to become better this far into a career is insane. Better in every way too, lyrically, flow, musically, even making beats now. 5'9" is goat status to me.

The greatness he reached and the bar he set for himself is too great. Now its underwhelming and he just sounds annoying and old. This whole decade it's been like that. Wheras look at the ART Kendrick put out while remaining a true rapper in the age of sound changing so much. It just feels like em should've dropped the mic long ago to not taint his legacy.
I thought it was a good album. Not super consistent but a lot more songs I liked. Premonition, You Gon Learn, Lock It Up (club banger), Yah Yah, Darkness, Godzilla were dope. Got better with subsequent listens. Not a fan of Stepdad and Those Nights, mostly bc I felt the hooks were wack... loved Ringer, Lucky You, and Fall off Kamikaze but not a lot else and hated a lot more off that album.

It was an all around well produced song. Something everyone can play, if they dont want angry, cursing, tongue in cheek eminem. People say, "Eminem is so trash, he cant make good music," but then when he puts out GOOD music, they still shit on it. That's why I hope eminem unaccommodates. All these people are there to try to knock eminem off his pedestal with their so called "criticism," and I hope eminem knows that perfectly clear at this point.

Em is just real passionate about the art of rap itself. There's still a big market for that but I agree. I would like for him to expand his sound and experiment a bit more.

I wanted to revisit this review because I've had a few months to sit with this album. The more I listened the more I enjoyed it. I think we all have so many expectations of Em after listening for 20 years that we're not even sure what we want anymore. For instance, if you take away the hook from Stepdad that song was VINTAGE Em!!!! Exaggerated storytelling, funny, riding the beat perfectly - that Alchemist beat was beautiful btw. But yet y'all complained about the song just cuz of the hook. And I literally had to wait 16 minutes into the review to hear you say anything about Em's bars. I don't know why you guys mostly focus on stuff you don't like when it comes to Em. Mike says he likes 95% of the album but 95% of his comments were about what he didn't like. Just something to think about. Hopefully someone reads this so you can keep it in mind when you review an album from Eminem in the future. I don't think this is one of Eminem's best albums but this review was depressing af. Too much focus on what you didn't like, which would be cool if you guys really didn't like the project, but that wasn't the case.

I agree, 13/17 were very well done. Just speculation: I think he's at a point where the hooks are meant to be shit. It's like he's countering catchy hooks, and would rather we focus on the verses (opposite of popular music). Or he just forgot how to make hooks 🤷🏻♂️
Going to have to disagree with the review. But it’s cool honestly. I legit enjoy every song. Nothing can sway my mind. At all. If anything, I’ll agree with the title. It screams “Murder raps” but the vibe wasn’t really dark. Cool. Whatever I love this album. Every song. I can hear a 1,000 reviews and will be like: “Cool. Rock on. More greatness for me” The replay value for me is super, super high. I can pinball with album since it has a mixtape vibe. I can play a bunch of shit randomly and sometimes even still end up playing the whole thing. Rock on with y’all review and anyone do y’all thing. I just genuinely enjoy it

I’m with you man, this album was so good. I can even play his “weaker” tracks with no problem. This was his most diverse album. As a fan, he gave me everything I wanted. Songs that were deep, personal, crazy bars, little bit of the old Eminem with that anger, the humorous soft side, political, etc. He killed this album.
I actually really like the beat on that one, sounds kinda like Hiphy which really caught me off guard cuz I never expected Em to spit over something like that

I think what Em really needs to do more than anything is make a project with just one really dope producer that he has chemistry with making all the beats. We’ve seen Royce work with Premo, Joell with Illmind and Apollo Brown, which was some of my favorite projects from them. 4:44 was super dope in part because No ID made every beat. I’m not saying that Em could make a project on that level, but if he locked in with One top producer, I think it would be a great improvement

You're right man. Spot on. But if he actually locks in with just one producer (preferably Dre or Alchemist) I still feel he's capable of making an album at least at par with 4:44 if not superior. Cuz like Mike said the hooks stood out like a sore fucking thumb on this one. That said, the flows were there the rapping was on point and a major improvement in his bars too from Revival and Kamikaze. So he just needs to ensure his hooks are catchy to his boys in the room and NO ONE ELSE. But apart from that this is definitely the direction that he needs to be taking henceforth.
I actually like the watching pupils get cornier/cornea line. That's legitimately clever as hell, but that eyeball line leading up to it sounds too forced

Brooklyn Medina well, sometimes you have to when the rapper is using a lot of word play. There’s a rhyme scheme in “premonition” where there’s an acronym after he says “I was once considered the G O A T” and then he proceeds the rhyme scheme with starting off each bar with each first letter of GOAT. So yea it’s not all about that but eminem is a crafty word smith and you’re not gonna catch all his references the first listen, sometimes the first few listens too.

I heard it on I Will, Stepdad, Premonition and You Gon Learn. It made me happy.
I 100% agree with Myke that rapping fast isn't inherently impressive. To me, speed rapping is like a van halen style guitar solo. It's only impressive if you know how to use it and how to craft a coherent song around it. It gets boring really fast if it's overused and it does not in any way excuse mediocre or wack writing. And on Godzilla Em's verse was really forgettable.
Im surprised for a hip hop heavy channel, they didnt take time to at least read his lyrics. That last min on godzilla he spazzed. It was only until the ‘toilet bowl’ line where it got a little ridiculous. But before that, he was saying some cool shit. But he was showcasing his skill. Im sorry, i disagree, godzilla was 🔥

Also to me I thought the whole album was Great, it took a minute for certain songs to grow on me in the beginning when I first listened to it but now I like them. I would even say it's one of his best albums overall and of this decade.
I feel like this album is a mixture of all the Eminem's of the past generations. You got the Early Slim Shady style, Serial Killer Em, Club Em, Beefing Em, Controversial Em, Rap God Em. I think Eminem looked at his past albums and realized that for the past two decades every Eminem fan doesn't like everything he does so rather than alienate them he put out a mixture of all of his styles and I think it works for him at his age because there are new Em fans and old Em fans and I think its fair that both have some favorites and not so favorite tracks from him.
I agree on the bad hooks to some of the songs but as a whole, the album brought me back as an Em fan. His bars made me look past some of the hooks. He got some bangers on here though. Nice review!!!

No disrespect to the fans and I'm also speaking as an Eminem fan but I agree with DEHH, when you try to please people too much, it comes off as bad, move forward, evolve and get what you're into. It's like what Tyler' The Creator said, Forget what they want, give them what "YOU" want.
When I saw the title to this album, my first thought was that Em locked himself in a room with Daringer and made a dark, story telling, concept album about a murder case or something like that. I really wish that had been what it was
Right now the way I see it Eminem can’t go back to being that emotional real raw rapper from his earlier albums because he’s already told his life story there’s no more content he can pull from his life to make those kind of albums anymore so he became a very technical rapper. I don’t get why people expect that from him anymore, I think he should just make cool rappy rap albums make more songs with his rap homies he always dope in a feature. Em probably doesn’t find it fun to go with simpler punchlines and schemes that sound better like he used to. I believe he probably finds more fun in making really complex punchlines and schemes with multiple meanings. I see it as him challenging himself to get better because at this point he’s done it all critical acclaim, topping the charts, breaking records, creating a huge fan base, inspiring other rappers, etc. Eminem has been in the rap game for over 20 years and he’s still not sick or tired of rapping. Sure his recent albums haven’t been the most sonically amazing but you can’t deny his lyrical ability isn’t sharper than ever. At this point I just want him to keep rapping until he doesn’t want to anymore. His legacy is and always will be cemented in the rap wall of fame.

Not one person realized that "Darkness" is entirely a double entendre, every bar on it was a double and not a peep out of anyone on this 'hip-hop' channel. I liked where Em was going with step dad but the hook and the delivery didn’t work for me. It just didn’t feel like an inviting beat to get into the story of that makes sense. I think what makes Darkness so good is that the beat doesn’t have much going on and it’s not too high energy Stepdad was like a beat he’s supposed to spaz on and I love alchemist.. it just doesn’t fit the story telling... at least right now it could grow on me
To me this album needed an editor. There were enough songs on there to make a great 10-12 track album. To me the production on this album wasn't a problem. Dre had 4 or 5 beats, Royces beats were good stripped back beats. Alchemist, DA. The Lock It Up beat might be the best beat on an Em album in a decade. That song is fire by the way. I mean there are 2 whole songs on here that are double entendres which is crazy. To me this is a better album musically than kamikaze. Also to me the whole Hitchcock theme was unnecessary and didn't really add anything. I feel like some of the corny bars come when he tries to get in his funny bag, cause you don't get those bars when gets in his rap bag like on the intro or the slaughterhouse joint. I refuse to believe that he actually thinks "Like A Liars Pants I'm On Fire" is a bar. Not the same dude who rhymed the entire rap hall of fame on the previous song.

When I check for Em I’m not looking for the ability to bump and bop my head because he’s not known for great beat making I’m listening for his lyricism that’s what I judge his artistic value on. For example you don’t judge Picasso on the realism of his paintings.

Myke sums up this album best. It’s like a buffet but not all of food is seasoned properly. I didn’t like most of the hooks on this album but Em’s rapping was fine.

That's the only youtube review I can respect, because you guys don't get caught into the Em hate vs Stannism that is so predominant on the internet. To me this album is like a 7,5, but it could be a classic if it wasn's some points that you made in the review, like the lenghth, the hooks (even though I think there are better hooks in here than in Kamikaze, Relapse and even Revival) and the title of the album, that suggest a much darker material. But it was good to show Em still got it, he just need some adjustments
This is one of my favorite channels and I really love these guys but I disagree with many of their points. I agree about the bitterness in premonition and am not mad at the hooks problem they had, but it almost seemed like I was hearing a different album. The dark theme and production was prevalent throughout the whole album. Premonition had dark elements. You gon learn instrumental was dark and spooky. They must have missed the singing tulips in the graveyard throughout the track. The music in Em's verse morphed into a scary progression. Godzilla, enough said. Darkness was about a mass murderer. Leaving Heaven was dark and gritty. Em's last verse was about evil as hell. Stepdad was about killing his stepdad. Marsh was extra terrestrial. No Regrets had some dark lyrical content in the first verse. I Will went back to that scary climax that was in You gon learn, not to mention his very last part that was like a nuclear reactor. Not one person has pointed this out. Oh and the chorus. The content of the album followed the theme of the title perfectly, but none of them seemed to get it.I liked that he sang the hooks. If you don't take it seriously, they're quite enjoyable. I listen to him for the rapping. But I won't hate on them for that though.The rapping was incredible. If you didn't get enjoyment from that I guess 2020 Eminem isn't for you. What can you do at this point, ya know? Every song was a gem in its own unique way. It makes me laugh when people say the album was too long.

Strong agree with Myke on the fast rapping. The fast flow is cool every once in a while, on Rap God or when Busta does it. But the lyricism is way more important. If the wordplay isn't up to par, I don't give a fuck how fast it is. Rapping fast is not a display of skill.

Not a fan of Stepdad and Those Nights, mostly bc I felt the hooks were wack... loved Ringer, Lucky You, and Fall off Kamikaze but not a lot else and hated a lot more off that album.

I wanted to revisit this review because I've had a few months to sit with this album. The more I listened the more I enjoyed it. I think we all have so many expectations of Em after listening for 20 years that we're not even sure what we want anymore. For instance, if you take away the hook from Stepdad that song was VINTAGE Em!!!! Exaggerated storytelling, funny, riding the beat perfectly - that Alchemist beat was beautiful btw. But yet y'all complained about the song just cuz of the hook. And I literally had to wait 16 minutes into the review to hear you say anything about Em's bars. I don't know why you guys mostly focus on stuff you don't like when it comes to Em. Mike says he likes 95% of the album but 95% of his comments were about what he didn't like. Just something to think about. Hopefully someone reads this so you can keep it in mind when you review an album from Eminem in the future. I don't think this is one of Eminem's best albums but this review was depressing af. Too much focus on what you didn't like, which would be cool if you guys really didn't like the project, but that wasn't the case.

I think what Em really needs to do more than anything is make a project with just one really dope producer that he has chemistry with making all the beats. We’ve seen Royce work with Premo, Joell with Illmind and Apollo Brown, which was some of my favorite projects from them.
4:44 was super dope in part because No ID made every beat. I’m not saying that Em could make a project on that level, but if he locked in with One top producer, I think it would be a great improvement

That said, the flows were there the rapping was on point and a major improvement in his bars too from Revival and Kamikaze. So he just needs to ensure his hooks are catchy to his boys in the room and NO ONE ELSE. But apart from that this is definitely the direction that he needs to be taking henceforth.

There’s a rhyme scheme in “premonition” where there’s an acronym after he says “I was once considered the G O A T” and then he proceeds the rhyme scheme with starting off each bar with each first letter of GOAT. So yea it’s not all about that but eminem is a crafty word smith and you’re not gonna catch all his references the first listen, sometimes the first few listens too.

I just have to say that there were several moments on this album that gave me "old Eminem" vibes...that classic Em that everyone keeps asking for. I heard it on I Will, Stepdad, Premonition and You Gon Learn. It made me happy.
I 100% agree with Myke that rapping fast isn't inherently impressive. To me, speed rapping is like a van halen style guitar solo. It's only impressive if you know how to use it and how to craft a coherent song around it. It gets boring really fast if it's overused and it does not in any way excuse mediocre or wack writing. And on Godzilla Em's verse was really forgettable.

I feel like this album is a mixture of all the Eminem's of the past generations. You got the Early Slim Shady style, Serial Killer Em, Club Em, Beefing Em, Controversial Em, Rap God Em. I think Eminem looked at his past albums and realized that for the past two decades every Eminem fan doesn't like everything he does so rather than alienate them he put out a mixture of all of his styles and I think it works for him at his age because there are new Em fans and old Em fans and I think its fair that both have some favorites and not so favorite tracks from him.

I believe he probably finds more fun in making really complex punchlines and schemes with multiple meanings. I see it as him challenging himself to get better because at this point he’s done it all critical acclaim, topping the charts, breaking records, creating a huge fan base, inspiring other rappers, etc. Eminem has been in the rap game for over 20 years and he’s still not sick or tired of rapping. Sure his recent albums haven’t been the most sonically amazing but you can’t deny his lyrical ability isn’t sharper than ever. At this point I just want him to keep rapping until he doesn’t want to anymore. His legacy is and always will be cemented in the rap wall of fame.

To me this album needed an editor. There were enough songs on there to make a great 10-12 track album. To me the production on this album wasn't a problem. Dre had 4 or 5 beats, Royces beats were good stripped back beats. Alchemist, DA. The Lock It Up beat might be the best beat on an Em album in a decade. That song is fire by the way. I mean there are 2 whole songs on here that are double entendres which is crazy. To me this is a better album musically than kamikaze. Also to me the whole Hitchcock theme was unnecessary and didn't really add anything. I feel like some of the corny bars come when he tries to get in his funny bag, cause you don't get those bars when gets in his rap bag like on the intro or the slaughterhouse joint. I refuse to believe that he actually thinks "Like A Liars Pants I'm On Fire" is a bar. Not the same dude who rhymed the entire rap hall of fame on the previous song.

To me this album is like a 7,5, but it could be a classic if it wasn's some points that you made in the review, like the lenghth, the hooks (even though I think there are better hooks in here than in Kamikaze, Relapse and even Revival) and the title of the album, that suggest a much darker material. But it was good to show Em still got it, he just need some adjustments
This is one of my favorite channels and I really love these guys but I disagree with many of their points. I agree about the bitterness in premonition and am not mad at the hooks problem they had, but it almost seemed like I was hearing a different album. The dark theme and production was prevalent throughout the whole album. Premonition had dark elements. You gon learn instrumental was dark and spooky. They must have missed the singing tulips in the graveyard throughout the track. The music in Em's verse morphed into a scary progression. Godzilla, enough said. Darkness was about a mass murderer. Leaving Heaven was dark and gritty. Em's last verse was about evil as hell. Stepdad was about killing his stepdad. Marsh was extra terrestrial. No Regrets had some dark lyrical content in the first verse. I Will went back to that scary climax that was in You gon learn, not to mention his very last part that was like a nuclear reactor. Not one person has pointed this out. Oh and the chorus. The content of the album followed the theme of the title perfectly, but none of them seemed to get it.I liked that he sang the hooks. If you don't take it seriously, they're quite enjoyable. I listen to him for the rapping. But I won't hate on them for that though.The rapping was incredible. If you didn't get enjoyment from that I guess 2020 Eminem isn't for you. What can you do at this point, ya know? Every song was a gem in its own unique way. It makes me laugh when people say the album was too long.
