Just a small warning, the comments are full of minor, and rather well-meaning, Spoilers, but still spoilers.
Edit: I´ll just add, most of your questions will be answered, but it might take some time.
when you guys starting INVINCIBLE s02
Malnourished man 😂 I didn't even pick up on the moon, good spot! Maomao is 17. she's just on the short side ig haha
In case this was missed, concubine Fuyou's childhood friend (aka who she was "awarded" to) is the same guy who stopped the angry soldier from punishing the village after the "poisoning" incident
(gotta remind myself to be careful clarifying details with such a mystery driven show because when and where it reveals information is always intentional, but Maomao's age should be ok 😂)
Fun Fact: Gyokuyou is voiced by the same woman who voiced Frieren and Anya.
Atsumi Tanezaki..Lately she did a pretty good at voicing every iconic characaters
Ain't no way, i didnt even realise it, she is too good at this
People always ask why a concubine system would exist in the first place, while this very episode illustrates why very well. The intention is to sell every noble family in the empire on the "opportunity" to effectively rule the empire. It is in the interest of the Emperor that the family of Concubine Fuhyo, as the nobles of a recently conquered vassal state, send their "princess" to the Imperial Palace rather than marrying a "prince" from a nearby vassal state, who together might decide that they can actually successfully rebel again the Empire. It is then also in the interest of the Emperor that Concubine Fuhyo marry an ambitious hard-working imperial officer rather than stay in the Rear Palace complaining about her life to her family.
Damn that's interesting!
yes, the concubine is not a love affairs but more on politic game, inside the harem, the women can fight for the power using "relationship and love".
The more the emperor care about a concubine, the more that concubine can talk to the emperor and rely or get important information.
To answer your question earlier: yes, the ladies in waiting are typically all from well to do families.
Good thing on noticing how she looks at her hand, it will get explained and everything will make a lot more sense
Maomao is a commoner. Almost every lady-in-waiting as some degree of nobility/high-merchant. The clothing reflect that class difference (she was dress the same as the other when she was servant because they are all commoners, but here the difference matter in what ever power/autority/right/respect you get/have to show)
thanks for pointing that out. I always wondered why she had different clothing than the other ladies in waiting. looked like some "main char need diferent stuff because MC" to me. but glad to hear that it had a real meaning behind this
While all my friends were watching JJK I was going nuts for this alone and I'm so happy you guys are watching! 🎉
7:18 idk why they didn't include this part, but in the novel jinshi was the one who helped them to be together (i forgot where it was mentioned😔) that's why he insisted on asking maomao if that was the actual reason since he believed that she figured it out!
They probably didn’t include it because it’s revealed way later on in the novels that he did help them
There's a scene where Jinshi was looking at a piece of paper, right after Mao Mao said the military officer request for Fuyou, I think that's enough to suggest Jinshi knew and helped them
@@leah___v oh-
Thanks for telling me!♡
+ Then do you think it's better for me to just delete this comment?
@@Rina.17.13 you can use your discretion it’s not a huge huge spoiler moment more like a fun tidbit tbh
@@leah___v got it!
Thanks again!💜
12:54 partially correct Carlie. Now I've not read the manga/LN so corrections are welcome from source readers, but as far as I've been able to gather, each of the concubines come from each of the provinces and are with the emperor as a sort of (loose) political marriage. There's a bunch of political nuance going on the in the background, but basically each of the concubines are playing a sort of tug-of-war with each other for the emperor's favor, and through them, favors for their respective provinces. The concubine who can birth the emperor's (male) heir basically secures the top favor for their province through their child.
You are correct, the emperor's relationship with his concubines is mainly strategic, but that does not mean that he does not appreciate or respect them, the emperor is a good person.
China, it's not even a question of reading the manga or LN, but a historical question.
@@welingtondas.c.guimaraes6336 It's not 100% based in China or even one time period so it may not necessarily be historically accurate all the time
@@emmanuelmanrique1372He's a saint compared to the previous one lol
A fellow non manga reader 😊😊
I don't think you guys realized that the man who appeared at the end of the episode is the emperor lol
You guys might want to becareful reading the comments. This fanbase is terrible for casually revealing spoilers in the comments section
Oh buddy, you don't know the extent of it. On Patreon people were just revealing Jinshi and MaoMao's age like they weren't intentionally kept a mystery for a reason. Other leading comments and spoilers too. I got spoiled from reading there.
@@Un1234l Maomao's age is fine but yeah Jinshi's is a spoiler. And i've seen a lot just casually revealed like its nothing for this show
One charm of this story is the mysteries as well so be careful not to spoil or reveal too much information that will be revealed in future episodes anyway! Please don't spoil or say too much! If some things need explanation, explain necessary only. Let them figure things out!
Be careful with comment section for this one. Enjoy the anime~ ♡
Everyone say Maomao is 17 but I question that. Episode 8 is the first time her age (17) is told. By that time she had been in the rear palace for 11month (server/lady-in-waiting). She could just had turn 17 the day before the serie start but, unless there is a meta info ( *like the author confirming it/ the LN saying it at the start* ) the "17y at the beginning" is discusable.
SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT EPISODE!
Mao Mao's phlegmatic nature makes her adorable.
I feel like Gyokuyou truly loves the emperor and when she said she was jealous, she meant that she wants to have the emperor exclusively. Sadly as an emperor its his divine duty to procreate as much as possible to create many heirs.
Pretty sure Maomao is late teens, like 17-19, and is close in age to Jinshi who is younger 20s
He’s not quite 20 in the anime.
@@luchitaknows Well yes, but that´s also kinda spoilery. So, spoiler warning!!!

His persona is 23-ish, and it´s a while until we learn he´s actually younger.
11 month in the story, it is said she is 17y old, so she was 16, may be early 17, when she was kidnapped
@@luchitaknowsyou just spoiled it…
@@MrEmatthewh 😓
MaoMao is 16, turning 17, not 14.
16 is more than eligible to marry, certainly in that era.
Maomao is 17 actually, older than what many assume
Usually concubines are gifted to the emperor from officials to get ties to royalty for political power, Or nearby countries gift them for blood ties to alliances or friendship.
Maomao looking at her fingers (one in particular) is significant and will make sense eventually.
the ost of this episode is my favorite
This anime is awesome !!! Can't wait for the next episodes
You should react to heavenly delusion
Maomao is 17
She's just stunted from being malnourish 🥲
to the question why is she looking at her hand in that scene, shes said what medicine would love make? looking at her arm that is filled with wounds on her countless tests on her own body
Well, you won't find ep4 so cute! Serious business, there!
Thanks for sticking to the Mao Mao pronunciation :)
Great playing in the intro btw
gyukyuo(don't know the spelling) is a character i hope we actually explore more in season 2 she was not really explored much in season 1. also that hand looking foreshadowing was great(always thought she was looking at the bandages) never caught that until they actually showed something regarding it.
5:17 it's Uzui Tengen's va 😊 these two VAs sound sooo similar to me tho.
Yes Ange, most of the top concubine's ladies in waiting are from high standing families.
i like this episode ❤
Are you guys planning on covering Kaiju no 8. Currently has 5 eps out and its great. Good op as well
Guys can someone explain to me what the malnourished thing Carlie was referring to please and thank you.
❤❤❤❤
Woo boy, when I watched this I figured Maomao was around 18 and when I looked it up I'm sure it said 17. It definitely gives a different vibe when you say 14. Jinshi and Maomao are close in age. So it's not that creepy.
The pinky finger on that hand is a little shorter than it should be, for reasons that they'll get into later.
👌
WARNING: Episode 4 has a cultural barriere hard to cross/understand for westerners culture. In a no-spoiler way: the difference between "I order you to..." and "I like you to..."
In "I order you to..." this is a direct order that come with power and autority invested in you by the autority giving you the order, you can call on/reference that autority to have you wat to accomplish the order.
In the case of "I like you to...", it is also and order, but it is up to you to find a way to accomplish it. You are not invested of the power of that autority and cannot use its influence to acheve the goal.
One is action, the other is character. You will still get punish the same if you fail, but the "I like you to..." is about competence or incompetence.
Maomao is 17 and Jinshi is one year older 😀
The finger thing: there is hint here and there, but the "explaination" will come episode 23.
Guys will you react to blue eye samurai?
I love how this episode shakes up the pattern. The first two episodes establish the pattern of Maomao using her knowledge to solve the mystery and then reporting it to the relevant person so they can take appropriate action. This time, Maomao solves the mystery... and then does nothing about it, because there's nothing to "fix". It's such a clever anti-climax.
lol maomao is 17
jinshi
Actually Jinshi is 19 and Maomao is 17
Please do ONE PIECE reaction!!!
I’m Japanese who started watching OnePiece from episode 1 recently 😩
You guys are my fav 🫶🏴☠️🔥
Do you mind posting a new uploading schedule please 🙏
Cause most of the shows have changed from the last one
4:08 um... in hindsight.........
day 6 react to queen of tears
Concubines’ purpose is to give birth to Emperor’s children to “balance” power. But most often than not, this purpose leads to power struggle and civil war lol just a stupid concept. Love that you’re loving this series! Thanks for your reaction!
Maomao doesn’t like “Shiny” Jinshi. When he stops trying too hard she actually starts liking him better.
Also, they are only a year apart in age.
thats a spoiler
If the information is going to be revealed later in the show, then this is a spoiler
Let people find out things as they're supposed to, i.e watching the show, not through a spoiler
please don't spoil, especially at a reaction channel
at least put a spoiler alert
@@voibitbay I don’t think the ages are ever mentioned in the show though. I’ve had several friends not want to watch the show because they thought that Mao Mao was 14 and Jinshi was 30.
This is a spoiler since his actual age is a secret for most of the season.
@@PhantomMonkey2008 They did get mentioned later, of course indirectly/vaguely as the whole show, and that's the beauty of it
to your 2nd point, why do you think the author/producers of the show didn't just spit out everything clearly so there's "more people to watch"?
Think about it, it is what it is intended to be
