I tend to buy the same kinds of clothes (dressy work or church clothes) and not ever casual - even though most of my days are casual. I just don't like casual clothes, but I need them.
I sold all my career and other high quality pieces that I no longer needed or wanted on Facebook Marketplace, in fact numerous buyers bought multiple pieces from me because of quality and the excellent condition they were all in. Clothing, boots, shoes, handbags, accessories, jewelry etc. I got a lot more money this way than taking to a consignment store or the hassle of Poshmark.
Love this advice, Nancy. While many of us know the drill, you have a nugget in every video. My biggest struggle is getting rid of recent purchases that were bad purchases, like the maxi denim skirt that swallows my small frame. What was I thinking? The answer is to remove the bad thoughts (items), be kind to yourself and to learn from that purchase.
My biggest challenge is fit. Too often I settle for pieces that are ‘okay’ in the dressing room but really don’t fit well enough to go through my day and still hold shape or not be uncomfortable after an hour or two. Then they end up just hanging there until I donate them.
My biggest challenge is weight gain. I have pulled out those items that just don’t fit anymore donated or thrown some but kept those items I still love. I hope to lose weight of course but for now I’ve put those items away. Too disheartening when I try something on too tight and just doesn’t look right. It has meant I have needed to change the kind of clothes I wear that’s taking a bit of practice to learn what sits well on me now. And trying not to get too down about it. It’s been expensive too! Having gone up 2 sizes over the last year.
Nancy, you dont seem to wearing or showing as many bright tropical colours as you used to: shocking pink, bright blues and greens. Is it a seasonal change or have you phased tgem out?
This was absolutely brilliant. I am an organization nut and this was *by far* the best video I have seen on decluttering and organizing one’s closet. Consider me your newest fan!
I just found your channel, hut: -biggest struggle w/ closet - organizing my silk scarves (in a way that doesn't hurt them & also lets me find what i need) - shopping tip: i know sales are fun and i used to buy whatever is a great price and get caught up in it. Now i ask myself "would i buy this at rull price?". So many things don't get purchased because "oh wow, a purple linen blouse for only $40" becomes "would i buy this at $120? No way"
The one thing I didn’t have in my closet was a black dress. I bought a black sweater dress, so far, for the winter. I’m not sure how to hang it. It’s a midi length. I guess I can wrap it like a sweater. I will find a different one for the summer. I cleaned out my closet. And right now it’s in pretty good shape. I could stand to clear out a few more things. I did take my jeans off hangers. They were taking up too much valuable space. But now they are piled when you open the closet door. I’m sure my husband will knock them on the floor. I have new nightstands and they have drawers in them. So I may clean them out and use those out and use those drawers.
I use Nancy’s sweater method for hanging sweaters, but for jersey dresses like from Bowden, I hang them at the waist, across the bar of the hanger. To keep them visible, I 😊put an index card size photo at the hanger neck,so I don’t think it’s just an empty hanger. Hope that helps! ❤❤ Suzanne
My biggest closet challenge is storing purses. I currently have then in labeled bins on a top shelf. They are the least changed over item, hence the top shelf. But on the flip side I don’t change them over often because they are difficult to get access too. I’m 5’2” so I either have to find a ladder or someone tall! My closet is an average sized bypass door style. I have A single hung rod for pants, 2 double hung for tops, and shelving in the middle for sweaters and additional shoes. Other shoes are on a floor shoe rack. I don’t know if there is a solution but thought I’d throw it out there for any helpful comments.
I recently had my husband put two rows of hooks behind our bedroom door to hang my purses on. They are like artwork! LoL! I love to see them and I change purses often according to my outfit...I may have a slight problem 😅 I don't know if this is a possibility for you?
@ ha! I have enough purses I should have that problem! But unfortunately my door set up won’t allow anything to be hung on it. Great suggestion though! Thank you!
I could have written this. Same. I put a hook hanger over my bathroom door for handbags I use often. 2 or get hung there.inside the bathroom. I'm 5 ' 1" and it's hard for me too. Can never get a neat handbag solution.
My biggest challenge with basics is a great fitting pair of jeans. My hips and legs are too small for the waist size I need and I require a tall inseam
I use a steamer but also dry clean. I know it costs money but clothes last so much longer. I usually spend about $ 40.00 every 5 - 6 weeks and that includes some of my husband's clothes. My good cotton and linen never go in the washing machine.
I love the look of a white button down, but hate how they look after one wearing, and need to be laundered! That's lazy me - and stops me from wearing them! I can't be the only one - and yet I still have several in my closet.
What's your biggest closet struggle this year?
Not wearing enough nice clothes since I have a daily uniform! Happy New Year 🎉
@@WillFixThat Matt needs to take you out more so you can wear all those beautiful Lilly and J.McLaughlin pieces you own! 💕

My biggest closet struggle is letting go of expensive, lightly used or new pieces that no longer fit my style in retirement.
I sold all my career and other high quality pieces that I no longer needed or wanted on Facebook Marketplace, in fact numerous buyers bought multiple pieces from me because of quality and the excellent condition they were all in. Me too!!!
Me three.

I am like a freakin' yoyo. I never know what will fit.
I went up one size and did the same.

I found that I don’t need a lot of clothes ❤

What happened to your Lilly Pulitzer clothing?
That was sort of her segway into her channel and it looks like she shifted gears.

I could have written this. Same. I put a hook hanger over my bathroom door for handbags I use often. 2 or get hung there.inside the bathroom. I'm 5 ' 1" and it's hard for me too. Can never get a neat handbag solution.
I keep a foldable stool, it's only one step and keep it in my closet.
My biggest challenge with basics is a great fitting pair of jeans. My hips and legs are too small for the waist size I need and I require a tall inseam
I agree - I need a larger waist size and then the hips/thighs are way too big.
Yes
My trick if I bring to a consignment store and they don’t take it or sell it-it is donated. Doesn’t re-enter the closet!
I don't want to wear the same clothes for casual and dressy. I categorize my clothes as indoor or outdoor, workout or dressy.
Thank you ❤ such a pertinent topic for us all
My biggest issue is IRONING!! I’m trying to buy natural fibers - mostly cotton and linen. That means tons of ironing!!!
But a good steamer.
I use a steamer but also dry clean. I know it costs money but clothes last so much longer. I usually spend about $ 40.00 every 5 - 6 weeks and that includes some of my husband's clothes. My good cotton and linen never go in the washing machine.
I don’t know if this is in your field of expertise but for the winter and us ladies over 50 I would love some stocking suggestions that are not black,
I love Bombas stockings.
I love the look of a white button down, but hate how they look after one wearing, and need to be laundered! That's lazy me - and stops me from wearing them! I can't be the only one - and yet I still have several in my closet.
Take it for dry cleaning. It's worth a few dollars.
@ I like laundry - especially ironing, but wish a white shirt could be worn more than once!
What happened to all your Lilly Pulitzer clothing?
Yes I asked mysellf that to
@@antoinettemarks694 Lilly Pulitzer colors and styles are very spring/summer, I'm sure they'll be coming back after the winter months.
Thanks, Nancy!
I found only putting things in my closet that I wear.
I really enjoy and learn from all your videos. May I suggest less hand movements throughout the video? I find it quite distracting.
