Took me a few times to notice but I absolutely love that the "man" she created at the beginning is wearing an outfit like Robert wears to the ball at the end to show that he was her true love the whole time.

The telenovela has a bunch of references in one:
The female soap star “Angela” (so named for Angela Lansbury, who voiced Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast) is played by Paige O’Hara, the voice of Belle. “Angela” is arguing with a man named “Jerry” (Jerry Orbach voiced Lumiere) because she’s having an affair with a man named “Ogden” (David Ogden Stiers voiced Cogsworth). This soap opera scene is scored with music from Beauty and the Beast.

At the beginning, it was basically Disney making fun of itself, with the true love's kiss and getting married right away tropes. They were showing how naive that world was, and then brought her to the real world. This was the first time Disney had tried this, and it was a smash. They were trying to change their typical tropes, so they did this.

I believe there were three other Disney princesses in the movie. The receptionist was Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel in The Little Mermaid (hence the aquarium and Giselle with the fish in her mouth). The mom with all the kids who said, "You're too late", when Edward was knocking on doors in the apartment building was Judy Kuhn, the singing voice of Pocahontas. The soap opera actress was Paige O''Hara who played the voice of Belle from Beauty and the Beast. And of course, Idina Menzel, playing Nancy, became a future Disney Princess, Elsa, in Frozen.

lots of fun Disney easter eggs/callbacks in this one, and it's just overall quite delightful :) My favorite is the fake soap opera at 19:19 , the lady being the original voice of Belle while a variation of Beauty & the Beast/ Tale as Old as Time plays.

This film is so good with its twist ending or misdirect you think her true love is going to be Edward but if you go back to the beginning of the film when it was a cartoon and you see the guy she creates he's wearing the same outfit as Robert in the ball scene which is little no to who her true lovers and Edward is more of like a misdirect or a red hearing you think he'll be her true love but her true love is actually found in the real world and I think that that's really cool and it's a bit of a twist on thestory, this film does such a good job with all these different twists and turns and tropes, also Nancy is Idina Menzel a.k.a. Elsa from frozen. Oh and the lady who works at his office is the voice of Ariel.

I love the theory regarding Narissa that I heard a while back. Narissa means Sea Nymph, so when she transforms, it's actually not a dragon. Transforming into a sea Nymph could also explain both why she wasn't seemingly capable of breathing fire and why it immediately began to rain when she took that form.

The making-a-dress-from-the-curtains trope was introduced in the 1939 Gone With The Wind. The actual scene was parodied in one of the funniest spoofs by Carol Burnett - "Went With The Wind." (I crack up just thinking of it - you can watch it on UA-cam.) Julie Andrews cuts up curtains to make clothes for all the children in The Sound Of Music." Probably was used in other movies of which I'm not aware.

This movie was actually stated to be a mixture of a lot of disney princess movies in 1. with her fainting with the apple (snow white), the boat (little mermaid) and the step mother (sleeping beauty) os its a combo movie of sort. but yes it was a good movie over all XD

    Disney and other movie references:
Mary Poppins - Dame Julie Andrews, who starred as the title character, is the narrator. The divorced couple, Mr. and Mrs. Banks, are named after characters from the movie and the bird lady from the bus Giselle talks to says "Do you want to feed the birds? Only a dollar a bag", a reference to a character and song in the movie. Also, one of the elderly male dancers during "That's How You Know" was a chimney sweep. The dance also takes clear inspiration from the choreography in "Step in Time".
The Sound of Music - The shot where Dame Julie Andrews sings "The hills are alive with the sound of music" is re-created during the "That's How You Know" number when Giselle runs up the hill. Giselle makes a dress out of the curtains just like Maria does.
Snow White - True love's kiss. The front of the troll's loincloth consists of pieces of clothing of former Disney princesses, including Snow White's dress. When Giselle appears in the real world she mistakes someone for Grumpy. When Robert and Giselle are walking through Central Park, an evil face can be seen carved into the poisoned apple, similar to the one seen when the evil Queen dips the apple in poison. The queen disguising herself as an old woman and offering Giselle a poisoned apple. The song "True Love's Kiss" is an homage to I'm Wishing. "Happy Working Song" shares similarities with and is inspired by the songs "Whistle While You Work" and "Heigh-Ho". Additionally, the musical number references similar scenes from the movie.
Sleeping Beauty - True love's kiss. Giselle creates her dream man just like Aurora does. The back of the troll's loincloth consists of pieces of clothing of former Disney princesses, including Aurora's "peasant" look. Robert's surname is Philip, which is the first name of the prince. Queen Narissa transforms into a dragon-like beast at the end, the same as Maleficent, and when Narissa reveals the unconscious Giselle behind her is the same way Maleficent reveals Aurora to the fairies.
Cinderella - The back of the troll's loincloth consists of pieces of clothing of former Disney princesses, including Cinderella's "peasant" look. The castle on the billboard for the Palace Casino is modeled after Cinderella's castle. During Happy Working Song when Giselle is scrubbing the bathroom floor and her reflection appears in the soap bubbles is a nod to a similar scene in the movie. Nancy's surname is Tremaine which is the surname of Cinderella's stepmother. Giselle losing her shoe and Prince Edward putting it on Nancy. The song "True Love's Kiss" is an homage to "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes". "Happy Working Song" shares similarities with and is inspired by "The Work Song".
The Little Mermaid - At the beginning when Prince Edward hears Giselle sing he says that he must find that voice, the same way Prince Eric does when he hears Ariel sing. The troll's earrings are the same shells as Ariel's. Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel, plays Robert's secretary. While Giselle is looking in the fish tank at Robert's work, "Part of Your World" is playing in the background. "That's How You Know" is an homage to and a parody of "Under the Sea". Giselle and Robert heading out on a rowboat is a nod to "Kiss the Girl".
Beauty and the Beast - The front of the troll's loincloth consists of pieces of clothing of former Disney princesses, including Belle's dress that she wears throughout most of the movie. When Edward is flipping through TV channels in the hotel room, the woman on the soap opera is Paige O'Hara, the voice of Belle. The soap opera's background music is the title song and the scene itself is similar to the bandaging scene. "Happy Working Song" shares similarites with and is inspired by the songs "Belle" and "Something There". "That's How You Know" is an homage to and a parody of "Be Our Guest". The chandelier shot in the ballroom is a perfect copy of the one in this.
Pocahontas - Judy Kuhn, the voice of Pocahontas, opens the first door Edward knocks on in Robert's building-the pregnant mum with all the kids who says he's late (as in Prince Charming).
The Lady and the Tramp - The restaurant at which Edward and Gisele have dinner is called Bella Notte, the name of the song being sung while Lady and Tramp are eating spaghetti.
Mulan - When Gisele climbs the tower to battle Narissa there is a brief shot of her standing with the sword on the tower, a shot nearly identical to a shot featured in the scene when Mulan is battling Shan-Yu.
The Lion King - Pumba makes a cameo appearance at the end as one of the animals waiting in line for Pip's autograph.
Bambi - Thumper and Flower make a cameo appearance at the beginning.
West Side Story - Two of the elderly male dancers during "That's How You Know" were dancers in the movie.
Hidden Mickey - The bus driver's hair is shaped like Mickey Mouse's ears, as well as the green pepper slices on the pizza Robert and Giselle are served at the restaurant.
In the scene where Edward is on the bus, in the background large posters can be seen advertising the musicals Rent and Wicked which starred Idina Menzel. A poster can also be seen for the Broadway production of Hairspray-James Marsden starred in the 2006 movie-and a poster of Superman Returns in which James appeared as well.
