I love how they tried to make Anne Hathaway ugly when she’s always gonna be pretty either way 😂 Hollywood movies make me laugh they think glasses and braces make people instantly unattractive. Also I hated her friend she was so unsupportive and self centred.

EXACTLY!! Give me a challenge, tbh all she needed was her eyebrows to be plucked, her hair brushed and a smaller framed glasses. That's it. Give me a girl that has a FULL unibrow, pimples with sores because she's always popping them, break out skin, dirty tight hair( kinda like Edward Scissorhands) , extreeeemely yellow teeth from years of consuming too muh coffee and I'd watch that movie believe that woman is undesirable.

In the books, she is worse until about the 3rd one when she gets a boyfriend and she is still kind of a lot till the 5th book, but she is also very fun. As adults she is the best but is not Mia's BEST BEST friend, that is another girl that was left out of the film.
The guy who plays the chauffeur/security detail Joseph (Héctor Elizondo) does the voice of the giant spirit owl Wan Shi Tong from Avatar The Last Airbender :)

The queen is played by Julie Andrews, a legendary musical actress that starred in movies like the Sound of Music and the original Mary Poppins. She unfortunately lost her singing voice due to an accident during a routine surgery on her throat.
Regardless, she's iconic in this role.
Also, no one really knew Anne Hathaway so the reveal of Anne Hathaway's beauty around 10:29 was a "surprise" to people at the time. This movie came out before social media was a thing as well.

@@mismiserables Dame Julie had some corrective surgery that restored some of her vocal abilities. She was up to an octave range when she did the second film, so she does some talking/rapping with Raven doing most of the big sing stuff.
@@mismiserables watch her singing during in The sound of music, and then go back to that scene again in The princess diaries. She did lost her voice and was pretty much upset and sort of depressed about it, asking her to sing in the second movie was a risky move as she could've turned it down, but she gave it a try and it worked. Julie is such a amazing actress and even better person, I don't if I could've had the strenght to overcome the loss of my voice.

The cast for this movie is pretty stacked! If you didn't notice, the actress who plays Lana is actually Mandy Moore, the voice of Rapunzel from Tangled!

She also had a singing career before this. But she came around the same time as Britney and Christina. Those 2 went big and she was modest at best. Her biggest song being Candy.

You should watch "The Prince and Me" with Julia Stiles, it's very cute and romantic!!! That's the only good one though because the other sequels they made they replaced all the actors and I hate when that happens so I refuse to count them as part of the original. Definitely give Princess Diaries 2 a watch when you can, these are part of my comfort movies hehe.

YESS!!! This is one of my all time favourite movies from my childhood and I’ve rewatched it multiple times as an adult (and now I need to rewatch it again soon after watching your reaction).
Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews are simply ICONIC in this movie (and its sequel)!!!
Fun fact: Mia slipping and falling on the bleachers wasn’t planned or scripted! The bleachers were just wet and slippery when they shot the scene and Anne just went with it and kept going after she fell and that’s the take they ended up using!

Both Princess Diaries movies, along with Parent Trap are my biggest comfort films. Some of my favorites from childhood that still hold up today! I've practically got the scripts memorized

I related so much to this movie in my teens and now I still relate. I was also the ugly duck and had "friends" who did things like the scene on the beach. I felt betrayed so many times but they were my only friends and I didn't know better. Still hurt watching those scenes and remiding me the past

One of those movies where you can completely overlook the fact that Ann Hathaway can NOT pull off a 15 year old, because she’s such a talented actress. Julie Andrews and Ann Hathaway just have the best chemistry in this movie and it kind of makes you forget that they aren’t related. I hope you’ll watch the second one too, it’s better than the first in my opinion. 😄

I definitely related to Mia and feeling like a slob around her at times. But now we've realized how similar we are in terms of our shared interests (art, philosophy, books, etc.)
