    Golfers need to keep things in perspective when stuff like this happens. What happened to Rory is hardly heartbreak. He's a hundred millionaire riding around in jets, spending every minute of his life on nice manicured grass, million dollar properties, country clubs, infinity pools. I get it, he wanted to win and had a tough loss, but these guys need to remember it's hard for regular folks to consider it "heartbreak" when you have the kinds of lives these guys have. I don't know anyone who wouldn't trade places with a tour pro, especially Rory. I seriously do feel for him; I think one of the biggest ways to cope with something like that is to stay grateful for the life that you have and keep things in perspective. You could be laying roof tiles in 100 degree heat barely getting by financially with a mortgage you can barely afford, or maybe even just rent in a shitty apartment. When a loss in a high profile golf tournament feels heartbreaking, try to remember how good you have it.

    The kindest thing you can say about McIlroy, apart from being a great golfer, is: a sore loser, reneges on commitments he makes, self absorbed hypocrite and no class. He congratulates Bryson two days after the event. Perhaps someone brought to his attention the many negative commentaries in the press from golf journalists who acutely criticised, not his collapse on the final few holes, but his immediate post defeat reaction. A good sportsman is humble in victory and graceful in defeat. McIlroy is well short of such attributes.

      @@Dun_ker35607 Sure, people are human. You don't need perfection to be humble and gracious. And you don't have to be perfect to show emotion even if you need to reach for the tissues. You don't need perfection to display sportsmanship. Much has been said about the two short putts McIlroy missed. Not much has been said about the 150 feet of putts he made in the final round. Even less has been said about the 3 putt bogey Bryson made on the 12th hole.

      Having not won a major for more than ten years, if he joined LIV (not happening, BTW) Rory has no avenue into the majors except through qualifiers. Rahm, Smith, Koepka, De Chambeau and more have this part of the equation licked, at least for a while.
      Because of this he can't go to LIV, much like Jay Monahan he overplayed his hand a couple years ago loudmouthing, tough talking and badmouthing LIV, all under the smokescreen of some sort of morality position about the Saudis, blah blah, blah. I also believe there's no way LIV extends an invite after Rory's initial behavior in the early LIV days. He's a weak and pathetic little man that deserves to be rooted against every time he shows his gargoyle-like visage at any event.
      Interesting that this happens so close to Lipstick Lexi's similar statement about moving away from professional golf followed by this weeks playoff loss to Lilia Vu who was out of action for months. Or Monahan's "stepping away" after the LIV Tour gave him a professional beat down. It's an attempt to graciously exit from a professional life of getting little accomplished.

      How do you know he didn't congratulate Bryson? All these guys know each other well, he could have easily sent Bryson a message to say well done. Just because he didn't jump in front of a camera and make a big song and dance about it, doesn't mean he didn't congratulate him, or at least want to. Have a think about just how much pressure he was under and how dissappointed he was considering his hstory and situation. He obviously wanted out of there and I don't blame him. Yes, ordinarily he should have stayed. But if he'd stuck around then the psychological damage could have been even worse. Give the guy a break. As for not talking to the media, lol, who cares.

      He made 496 putts out of 496 within one yard this year up to the putt on 16. I like Rory but his mind is a bit fragile. I don’t see how he can overcome that trait.

    When is he gonna learn that he is a poor front runner, stick around and pounce near the end of the round... otherwise 4 footers end up feeling like 14 footers for him. 10 years wasted. 😣

      Good point but easier said than done. Those birdies don’t come easy on those courses so I guess you take them when they come. He did amazing to get in that position. Just a real shame those misses came at the end. But what an up and down from Bryson too! That could have easily still gone to a play off.

      @@ollyw2897 what i'm basically saying is he should slightly bottle it first in terms of attacking the course and the leader, stick around instead because front running builds up too much pressure for him to handle.. and then he cracks.. time and time again, he should attack from either 16th or 17th onwards and then see if he can muster up a putt for the win or even tie because the pressure of losing from being ahead won't be there as he won't have been ahead in the round before this last putt.. and all of a sudden its a different type of pressure putt and he is more likely to putt it while hoping and being positive in the pull back instead of s#!+ scared he might lose and bottle from leading by 2 in the round...

      What if the likely birdie holes are on the front nine?

      @g..h..o..s..t 3 місяці тому

      @@MarkSmith-tp6zc doesn't matter (anymore) basically Rory has zero chance these days as a front runner as he cant handle that pressure so the only obvious percentage thing to try now is to not lead in the final round and then pounce on them instead of the other way round like what keeps happening every single time in the last 10 years. Rory should accept his weakness (Front running) and try to find another way to get it done (like how i said to do it or just something else), that is all.

    Rory Mcilroy did not throw the us open away - he missed short putts where he could not afford to miss - deal with it - he does not need to explain anything to anybody - He has won 4 majors - a fantastic achievement- you never heard TW speak the way Rory does - that’s the difference

      I beg to differ he's a pro and should be that even when a tough loss comes...he literally ran away...yes he's paid very well to answer a couple questions post match.
      He like many other celebs have become so smug and frankly condescending...he didn't shake the winners hand because he thinks he above showing a minimum of golf decorum to this winner specifically, and the Folks putting the tournament money up . ..he made $2 million for second.

    It's telling how Rory describes his career as resilient. We take for granted that these guys aren't just genius talents, but they work on their craft religiously, day in and day out.
