This is my third baby and this is the first time i experience purple crying. Glad I found this, i kept on changing everyting thinking i’ve done something wrong. at least its reassuring i’m not the only one😢
The same thing happened to me..don’t watch the video cause the nurse was like oh yeah this is your third your fine so I was like oh yeah she’s probably talking about not shaking your baby and I knew that but didn’t know about the fact that they’re gonna cry for no reason! 😂 my first two barely cried! But now I know that my baby now is normal and my first two were the exception 😂
I've been a childcare provider for 15+ years and I've never heard of this. It's very informative and more parents should know about it. Looking back on some of the infants I've had the privilege of watching definitely had periods of purple crying. It's sad to watch a baby go through something like this. Thank you for this informative video. Im going to suggest it to all my new mothers and fathers.
Even if it’s not a new mother, I’ve heard of the shaken baby syndrome when I had my first but completely forgot about the purple crying. Had two babies 5 years apart and both were super easy they didn’t really cry I was with them most of the the time full time breastfed them. 8 years later now at 39 have a 3 week old and she started crying since the second night of being born and I didn’t understand! I’m doing the exact same thing I did with my first two and then I remember the nurse told me about purple crying before I had the baby but she’s like oh that’s right this is your third you already know.. nope! I didn’t know.. I should’ve watched it. Now I understand more why she cries and is ok
Great video - it's reassuring to know that this is normal. I think the letter 'S' should be added to the end of PURPLE, for 'sh*tty'. "Hey babe, would you describe his crying as 'sh*tty?" "Yea, it sucks!" "Okay, I think it might just be PURPLES crying."
What exactly is the development that’s happening during this period that makes it an expected/necessary phase of growth? It’s not explained in the video.
Fantastic info. Your babys lungs need to grow. If they cry for no reason, it may be this. Allow them to do this. Its for them. Always make sure your baby is okay and safe, but dont be too annoyed. Its all apart of growing. We as humans, must do everything we can, for our loved little ones.
If it's normal then why don't all babies go through it. Currently going through it with my second child. We are at 9 weeks and I'm hoping we are at our peak cause holy shit it's Soo bad. Lol
Usually intelligent babies develop longer but have more awareness , during their growth when they realise new experiences they begin crying; the best way to quieten them is to move them into a new unfamiliar room where they can observe in awe and experience.
Same, mine is 7 weeks and it’s been HELL I didn’t go through this with my oldest so this caught my off guard completely I almost took him to the ER cause I didn’t know what else to do 😢 thank God I found this video 💜
Does the period of purple crying tend to last longer for infants born premature? For instance an additional month for an infant born 1 month premature?
I would think any baby born early is still underdeveloped and still adjusting and growing. So their digestive tracts are not able to digest some of the things in breastmilk and formula. That’s why doctors typically first suggest removing dairy from your diet. Firmly believe that’s where a lot of issues lie, and colic from their bodies having issues digesting.
Hi Arci! For preemies you go based off of their corrected age. As you stated your baby is 10 weeks actual but 3 weeks adjusted. This means on the crying curve they are currently at the 3 weeks range.
Ours has 6 weeks, what do you do when crying badly, it starts coughing ('cause of all those tonalities, her vocal cords can't take it any longer and she (in our case) begins to cough violently (like expecting to see blood coming of her any minute now, situation), then what? those moments scare me shitless ....one can;t just leave a baby crying....
I firmly believe the reason purple crying happens is because of things like your baby having a food sensitivity and their digestive tracts are distressed. The only times I’ve had crying that horrific was because of dairy being in my diet and it affecting my children. Luckily because of online reading, I found out the issue within a month for my first child, and knew within a week for my second. Would have helped more had my mother and my aunt told me they both had dairy issues with their children and had to substitute soy. Luckily, they have other alternatives now for parents who can’t do soy. Either way, people should definitely be aware that if their babies are crying nonstop, it’s possible it’s something in their diet. Cause I understand not everyone breastfeeds, so giving them cow protein based formula can also cause the same problem.
@@gjulissa77 you should! It will take a while for it to completely get out of your baby's system, like if you had caffeine. Just give it time, but you should see major improvement! Plus the diaper changes should not be so smelly and gross!
I’ve been trying to figure out if my baby is having a dietary issue. I’m dairy free and gluten free, so I’ve been unsure what could be causing it. Our pediatrician seems to think it’s just normal newborn behavior (he’s 2 weeks). This period of PURPLE crying sounds like a plausible explanation! Knowing it gets worse, trying to mentally prepare myself and keep gassy foods out of my diet!
@@SonjiaFlowers I’m sorry to hear that! My pediatrician’s advice was to keep a food diary so that I could be able to figure out what was causing the problem, so I could try eliminating it from my diet to see if it helped. The human body is super complex! The purple crying is super stressful so just know if it gets overwhelming, to just ask for a break!

Totally in Purple Crying Stage. It is hard
I had three boys and none of them went thru this. I am thankful I had very calm babies.

Agree fully. Dealing with my 3rd and damn! This shit gets old. But you still love them.
What ever you do don’t shake the baby
There’s a wide range of normal between infants. If you read on the purple crying website I think you can see some statistics they’ve found

Yes. Use their adjusted age. For example, a 10-week-old who was born 8 weeks early has a corrected age of two weeks old.
