So far, the comments are leaning towards guesses. This is a revenge song. Corporate corruption dismantled the original three and apparently Bill and Jeff have never gotten over the fact that Ken backed out on what he started in the first place.
I think some of you guys are misunderstanding. The song is well, obviously about telling producers, sound engineers and many others that they are not interested in sounding like everything else, they're not interested in knowing how (like the lyrics say) they SHOULD play, how they SHOULD act, what they SHOULD do etc, and the chorus is really just sarcastic, implying they're "sellouts" even though that's not the case at all. They don't want to be corporate rock, they want to be Carcass..
ITS A JOKE. THE LYRICS, THE TIME SIGNATURE, THE CHORD PROGRESSION. SERIOUSLY, I THINK IT'S PRETTY OBVIOUS THEY WROTE A RADIO ROCK SONG TO MAKE FUN OF RADIO ROCK.
+young skeletor Its hilarious how much people miss the whole point, they excecuted what they were going for perfectly in this song and it kinda hits both extreames, the guys that miss the point don't even realise how they have lost the ability to think and are similar to the people they think they are opposite to.
Well yeaaaaaa...it's not exactly something that requires any deep thinking to figure out. The meaning of the song is stated in the title - definitely not a mystery.
Exactly. Carcass was one of the first Death Metal bands to have good production and come up with "catchy" music. I would disagree that they got "crappy" (I would agree with the others you named), but they definitely weren't out to have cd's on the shelves of Wal-Mart.
vitormalta Bill is a monster when it comes to playing guitar, I saw him this year and I am sure he can play almost anything in the world and compose everything which will sound amazing to the people who know what metal is all about.
I've seen them live in 2015 and they've been amazing. Truly stage masters, at ease on the stage and with the public...and mostly Bill were incredible. Once I read an interview in wich Chuck Schuldiner said that Bill ispired him a lot as guitarist... Don't forget that Bill, despite his juvenile look, is a veteran of death metal: he was in the formers of Napalm Death and he's around since the late '80s...
the whole album fell short in terms of being heavy . i remember ppl call this and swansong their sell out album....personally i think much more was goin on with them and the metal movement. always
@1988ballbag Used to be one of the best Grindcore bands from the UK....This isn't grindcore, or even death metal for that matter. This song is actually quite ironic if you think about it. Listen to old Carcass and you'll understand why.
yeah if you're born in a real life musical oppurtunity land you can afford that luxury, if not you'll just have to play stuff you don't like to survive
I think you misunderstood me. Carcass is not a sell out band. First off, they can't be if they're playing Metal like this and death metal vocals. My point is that every artist is a sell out to some degree. They all want to make as much money as possible. I don't see that as a bad thing. We live in a capitalist society and that's a good thing
"We live in a capitalist society and that's a good thing" Yeah, I guess you definetely don't read their lyrics. Also yeah, it may be a good thing for you if you're rich and got other people working for you, but not if you're working in a fucking sweatshop.
If a band charges money for anything your band does (Concerts, merch, CD's etc) you are a sell out to some degree. The bands that say they will never sell out are the ones couldn't even if they wanted to because no one is buying. I have no problem with bands making money, the more the better but if they change their style to appease a certain demographic, then I won't buy their stuff. I did this way back in 1991 when Metallica released the Black album. I few months later, I discovered CARCASS
Its funny because carcass sold out :) they call it "maturing" i call it "money coruption" :-J wtf happened to electro hippies, disattack, flesh ripping sonic torment and reek of putrefaction? they call it "maturing" i call it "money coruption" :-J ... money grabbers...

+SavatageIsMyReligion That's why all the heavy metal bands want to be signed by the major record labels. Carcass was under the Sony and CBS record label subsidiaries. That's what Corporate Rock means.
@@Cinerary Carcass was signed to Columbia Records. That is the same major label that mainstream acts like Lady Gaga are under. Do you know where they got the title of this song from? They took it from SST Records, the independent underground label of Hardcore Punk band Black Flag. They used to sell shirts and stickers with slogans against "Corporate Rock". I still have some of those stickers I got from them decades ago.
Unfortunately, Carcass sold out hard. Listen to their old shit, like Symphonies of Sickness. Then listen to the newer stuff. Meh. I miss the old Carcass. :(
Moshe Alvarez that has nothing to do with selling out. Selling out is when you compromise the art in favor of mass appeal. I don’t think Carcass has ever been guilty of that, but I know many of their grind fans believe it.

I think the irony of having a song like this with an actual belter riff shouldn't be lost on anyone.
carcass can really rot better than anyone even the bands this song is referring to

Carcass, Death, and Dying Fetus have 100% perfect discographies. Not one bad song from these three legendary bands!
The main riff is actually really fun to play
I don't think they sold out, they just got tired of playing the way they used to. Anyways I love everything Carcass did.
Exactly, in a weird way I thought of it like progression.
Me too.

Yep. It's pretty obvious. Nobody is missing the point of this song.
carcass after symphonies of sickness is all radio rock.

My favorite band
They rule! And they are extremely nice in person
Very different from their other stuff -even from Heartwork- but still so damn good ! Carcass really does rocks !

best morning song ever!
Bill just wanted to fade away and play guitar in pubs, he don't pretend to be a star even being a huge guitarist who is

No you won't because to sell out you need to have someone who wants to buy
