it feel like the Mario World Overworld theme has so much common progressions that you go "shit it's SMW" when listening to other songs like Green Green, the TADC theme, and this song (Perfect Way)
There’s also a Cuphead track that everyone thought was a Mario World Overworld callback because one part of it uses the same chord progression which is apparently a pretty common one
@@overqwilgaming6614 You're referring to "Funfair Fever" (plays during a run-n'-gun level in Inkwell Isle 2) and it resembles the Athletic theme of SMW, not the Overworld theme.
i feel like scritti politti was inspired by green green, which was a old american song in 1963 then found its way in japan trough the tv, which konji kondo was inspired. however, scritti politti was released in the 80's, which predates smw, so yeah uhhhhhhhh
I’ve never heard this song in my entire life, now that I’ve watched this video I will hear it probably multiple times and only be able to think of this. These sort of things happened like six times.
I've heard people say that before but all the examples claimed to do this are not that similar imo. Top gun and Ken's theme (street fighter II) is one example, another is DKC 2 Bayou Boogie (Swamp level theme) and In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins. Especially the latter doesn't sound remotely similar to what is supposedly a rip-off of it
Not only that, but I'd like to also add how the bass line at the very beginning sounds like the opening notes to the underground theme from Super Mario Bros. That's what I thought you were referencing at before the melody kicked in, to be honest. It really does make it sound like something that the Super Mario Bros Super Show would have, like how a few other people have said.
Funny thing is, I just sampled a clean note from the original piano solo. I think the inevitable distortion from playing a sampled note at different pitches is what gave it such a perfect SNES MIDI sound.
@@dateddelvings1695 You did such a good job cleaning the sample, wow. But let me give you an example: look it up "Theme of Schroeder" from the game Snoopy Concert and tell me if it doesn't sound similar
I've seen multiple comparisons between rock and pop songs and Koji Kondo's work over the years showing where he likely saw inspiration for multiple tracks in the Mario series and beyond, so combine this with the fact that the midi keyboard used in this instrumental was likely the same model or model range as the one Kondo used to compose SMW, and I think this was very much not by accident.
