My carkey stuck again after two years of changing it. Btw do you have a video how to remove and change this small aluminum part on the front of the ignition switch? Its called Ignition lock repair lever

    Hi if you replace it with a new ignition barrel do you need to get a new key and have it programmed
    Thanks great vid

      @TheCarKeyMan  9 місяців тому

      Hi, the key is in there parts. There is the blade, the screw and the black square remote.
      As long as the black remote stays the same you don’t need to code new keys. Just put the new blade into your old key

    I know this is an old vid, but very helpful, also my key sometimes won’t start the car, key is very worn. Would it be a case of getting a decent key cut? Or will barrel need replace/repair? Is this something you guys can do.
    Thanks

      Hi Leon
      It depends on the problem you have. If you have a key that is getting stuck in the lock, then getting a new key cut will not help you, in fact it will make things worse.

    this can be fixed easily without the ignition to be removed. The fault is caused by the dust flap wearing to a point that matches the grove on the key. once it picks up o. the key it deflects downward onto the key increasing the resistance.
    1. if the key is stuck it can be released with a small screw driver to lift the dust flap off the key. push it in and pull back on the key.
    2. To fix use a small flat needle file, use the edge to wear away the point on the dust flap inside the ignition barrel. if the file gets stuck use a small screw driver or flat piece of metal to lift the dust flat.
    it took me about 15 mins with this method to completely cure the problem without removing the lock.

      This is interesting, thanks for sharing it. We've seen lots of files stuck in the ignition, when they've been posted to us for us to fix. If you've fixed your own without replacing all the worn parts, you've saved some money, well done

      Thank you I used a file as so expertly described and fixed my nissan. The secret is like you say to use a small file and grind off with the edge the spike.. not to use a file the size of the key as that will get stuck and may brake off

    Is the transponder lead the source of the remote unlocking fob? Just had mine repaired and both fobs not working now, cannot be both batteries dud surely

    • @TheCarKeyMan
      @TheCarKeyMan  6 років тому

      Hi Phillip. When you say you had them repaired, what was wrong with them before?

    • @TheDreamcatcher44
      @TheDreamcatcher44 6 років тому

      The key was sticking and eventually would not turn at all. Repaired by a so called vehicle locksmith. Ignition works but now cannot lock the vehicle. New batteries in fob. Removed transponder lead as per telephone conversation last night, but to no avail

    • @TheCarKeyMan
      @TheCarKeyMan  6 років тому

      Hi Philip. Ok, so there are a couple of things that may have happened. The thing that causes the key to stick is known as the 'dust cover' It gets worn and grabs the key. Unfortunately, this isn't the purpose of the faulty part part at all, it is not there to keep the dust out. It has two jobs.
      Firstly it prevents the central locking coming on when the key is in the ignition. You should not be able to put the central locking on with the key in the ignition lock. Can you?
      Secondly, the small widget inside also is used to tell the car that the central locking is allowed to work, by way of a small micro switch.
      There are some auto locksmiths simply removing this important part of the lock. It takes away the sticking key problem but creates the two problems mentioned. Has the part just been taken out?

    • @TheDreamcatcher44
      @TheDreamcatcher44 6 років тому

      Hmmmmm all very complicated and I trusted a family friend to carry out the work at a cost of £200 which I aim to recover somehow. I think the only way is for me to get a replacement from you and fit it, following your wonderful instructions in the video above. I may need to pay you the deposit as I still need my car and return the faulty one on completion.
