Im 49 years old and I just heard this guy for the first time in my life tonight. Never knew who he was. Listening to Alexa dinner music and this song came on. His voice and the melody grabbed my attention immediately. Great stuff. Going to be checking his other stuff out.

One of my most favorite things to do is listen to jazz at night ( anytime after 1a.m. ). Something I picked up from my mom years ago. I would often find her late at night in her big brown "Lazy Boy " sitting quietly in the dark looking out the window while listening to gospel music. I asked her "Mom what's going on? why are you sitting here in the dark playing church music? she'd smile and say she was talking to the lord. As I got older ( and hopefully wiser ) I understood what she was doing. There is a certain peace that I find at night listening to "Coltrane" "Henderson" "Gordon" etc. Everything thing is still and you hear the music better because your mind is less cluttered and the pace of the day has slowed downed. It's 2:37 a.m. and I'm here on UA-cam with my headset on listening to music from "Gregory Porter" one of my all time favorites along with "Will Downing" The "Consequence of Love" is a beautiful composition and Porter's execution of it is brilliantly elegant and it begs the question how many of us would go thought the consequence of love? We often try to take love on our terms when in fact love requires that it be had on it's own terms which often is very painful. But if we love/want what the object of our hearts desire is, what are we willing to sacrifice in order to have it?. As you can see I also tend to ramble at 3:a.m. My deepest apologies to you and good night.

This is in fact a beautiful song. I can appreciate the lyrics because there are so many people who have jaded ideas about what love is. God is the SOURCE of LOVE and truth. When we can awake to what love can truly be in our lives and understand that there is compromise, give and take, patience, devotion, trust, assurance, happiness, kindness and peace of which all of these attributes come from God. Knowing these things can will if used properly, have the ability to (elevate) hate, choas, racism, infidelity, distrust, hopelessness, fear, poverty, unbelief, destruction and even death itself. I cant understand how a video like this, that tells a story, that sounds AMAZING, and that can actual create a world we can understand, has just about 140,000 views. I just cant believe the world these days. Are you telling me fuckin videos of 30 year olds playing video games has a more symbolic message then this? Is there some mystery to this that I dont understand? Dont get me wrong I love all types of music and entertainment, but come on this needs more recognition. This DESERVES attention, unlike most songs repeating the same word 15 fucking times and getting over a million views.

I was privileged to witness Gregory's performance in Melbourne Australia this week. The most beautiful voice in jazz and blues today. His soaring baritone filled the auditorium with love, joy and hope. Chip Crawford on piano, Aaron James on bass and Emanuel Harold on drums were brilliant.you must see this man perform

Alex...if you don't think Kendrick's previous album, "To Pimp A Butterfly" isn't a work of art, depicting very real topics that affect the African-American community, then I would encourage you to do some research and listen to the album.
They don't all need to be emulating Mr. Porter. That would be boring, unartistic, a severe lack of creativity, and not true to their own personalities. I'm certain Mr. Porter would disagree with your take, and might find your "thug" labeling pretty sad and pathetic as well. Use your head man.
