We had an enlightening session at the WICxCLOUDJOBS event! To start the event, Nandita Sampath from Microsoft introduced the new Microsoft Applied Skills credential. It is a scenario-based certification. It shows skill in key business areas. These include AI, cyber protection, data protection, and data management. She emphasized the growing importance of a skills-first approach in technical roles and the need to continuously upskill to stay valuable in today’s tech landscape.
Following this, Ivor Berry guided us through the MS Learn platform, showcasing its valuable resources for building and validating skills. Then, Priyanka Agrawal shared essential tips for preparing for assessments, highlighting the need to choose between C# or Python, practice consistently, and revisit the learning paths to build a strong foundation. She noted that programming skills are vital in AI and tech, making applied skills highly in demand.
During the Q&A session, Debbie Uttecht provided reassuring advice for those transitioning into tech from other industries. She emphasized that transferable skills ease the transition and that there are roles for everyone in tech.
Chaitra Vedullapalli of Women in Cloud outlined the essentials to becoming a tech icon: dedication, mastering skills, time blocking, organization, celebrating others, and gratitude.
