Becca I love the way you guys look at the NZ scenery with these fresh, new eyes, drinking it in and your appreciation for it all. It makes me reminisce on my life and feel grateful for having grown up and lived in this place my whole life. I guess for you guys living in Auckland it's a stark contrast, but I grew up in a tiny little town (there were thirty kids and two classrooms at my primary school, for context) on the beach where these kinds of scenes were just normal. Thanks for refreshing my perspective, I love seeing your travel and daytrips and a super cute bubba definitely helps :)
I know he’s the reason anyone watches! 😂 and it’s so crazy to me! I grew up in one of the ugliest places in the world so it’s pretty great to me that I get to live here now!
Oh your baby is so lovely. I almost cried when he went 'bababa' and looked and sounded the same as what my now grown up baby sounded when he was teeny weeny. Make the most of this time with him. When I climbed Mt Manaia 50 years ago it was way harder. You would have had no chance taking your baby without those steps!
I’m bored in lockdown but bingeing your videos at 1am is helping 😂😂 and the never ending stairs is pretty common on Nz bush walks. Summer bush walks are sweet as, no mud 😅
I am in love with your vlogs... ❤️❤️ Keep up the good work.. and keep exploring.. I travelled to new Zealand in 2018 and still can't get over from this trip. Lucky are those who stay in new Zealand.. ❤️
OK Becca, I'm exhausted after watching that let alone walking it like you did! I love how you are getting out and seeing more of the country and you will be blown away when you finally go to Waitomo Caves!
@@Becca.Loveless this is such a beautiful little rock we live on called earth it's a shame that in some parts of the world certain people walking on it make it ugly, you know what I mean😎❤️
Ahh! So exciting! From what we saw of Whangarei it is absolutely incredible up there! Are you in MIQ in Auckland right now? For us the first week went by slow, and the final week felt so fast! Let me know if you need anything!
Mmm, I'm not sure though. The ingredients are the same but Fix and Fogg's is waaaay creamier. And therefore better in my opinion. To be fair, I've only tried Pic's crunchy.
Ive been watching your channel since lockdown 1 and i have managed to watch all your wonderful videos :) Welcome to New Zealand although you guys been here long enough by now. Would you mind to share your mouth watering curry recipe oneday? it looked delicious! btw i live in Auckland as well ^^
It would be fun to meet up sometime when the lockdown is lifted! I need to post the recipe sometime. It has actually changed a lot since we got here, we use an instant pot now and it makes much better curry than we ever did in the US.
I climbed Mount Manaia on a High school camp. I think 1981. I don't remember any steps. I remember climbing a rope in a crevice, vertical. It can't have been that high, but I remember being scared
Hahah! So not to sure about when they built stairs or when ropes and footholes got replaced with stairs...lol🤔 but what I do know is that as part of their pre-season training the Northland taniwha rugby boys run up and down thoughs stairs for fitness and conditioning, geez I ran out of breath just watching this vlog...lol😂🤣
Looked like a real nice time, not bad, considering it's still pretty much the middle of winter. Must have been a cold when you got out of that spa though. Did you know you can dip hot chips in a little malt vinegar, it adds a nice tangy flavor to them.
I've never tried malt vinegar with anything, but apparently I'm missing out. I need to get some next time I'm' out shopping. And you're right about the run from the spa to inside - cold, but worth it :)
Hey. With your little Boy you should try the Ruakuri Bush Walk near Waitomo. Its a cute walk and when it's dark you can see Glowworm. Its for free. Or you book a privat tour to the cave. But its better than Black Wild Water Rafting with this young boy. You might not see that much Glowworm like on the picture, but a few and its fine when it's dark. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪😊❤️
My family and I almost got to Whangarei NZ in 1980/81. They wanted British carpenters with experience of building oil jetties, which I had. After being offered a job I was informed shortly after the NZ unions had banned the Brits from going over. So I taught in UK colleges instead, moved to a little town called Marton near Middlesbrough where Cap. James Cook was born, that's nearest we ever got to NZ...
That’s such a good story! Why were Brits banned at that time? And I’m hoping you had a fun and fulfilling time in the UK as opposed to NZ this whole time :)
@@Becca.Loveless Job protection I believe for the people already living in NZ.... Yes, we lived well in the UK, until my wife's divorce. Then I - some years later re-married and moved to Bulgaria to live with my Russian wife that was 14 years ago, been here ever since... Like the Vids BTW...
That oil refinery you would have worked on has just ,in the last week, announced that it will close its refinery plant and just be a port for petroleum imports .
I think my brother got your job 😀. Sorry to hear though, you would have loved this country. So many Brits did get here though, even at the oil refinery.
When I was a teenager in the 1950s I used to visit George Piskey whose farm was by the cave. You only had to walk about 20 meters into the cave and there were glow worms by the thousands. I don’t remember the cave being so muddy then. George was half blind and a pig farmer and one of those characters that you always remember after meeting him. Last time I was in the cave was in 1974 during my honeymoon. Wife an American refused to leave the cave she was so fascinated by the glow worms
What! Now I want to go back! I'm so sad we didn't brave the water and see them. I'm guessing in the summer it's not so wet and it'll be easier. Your experiences sounds so idyllic :)
for glow worms, you need to visit Waitomo Caves. I'm so happy you enjoyed visiting the North. I lived at the heads for eight years before moving to a rural property here in Whangarei. Loved the video.
I'm so excited to see more of the North! I can't believe how pretty our trip was, and that was barely dipping our toes in! And I've heard Waitomo is a good one, we'll have to check it out soon :)
Your videos inspire me to explore more of NZ - last weekend we went and hiked Kitekite falls in Piha because of you! PS - you WERE in the haunted forest.... lucky the goblins didn't get you!
Yay! What did you think of the falls? That makes me so happy that you went! And I don't doubt it. I bet if we were there during night we definitely would have been attacked by something supernatural.
As someone mentioned below, Waitomo for glow worms, although there are some decent ones in Waikaretu. South of Auckland, kinda Auckland/Waikato border near Port Waikato. I'm not sure how suitable they would be with the little one tho, there are some tight spaces and also some crawling involved. Speaking of the little one, the back carrier looks like its working awesomely for you
The back carrier is so awesome! It distributes the weight well enough that I can even carry him :). It's very nice, especially for longer, harder hikes. And maybe we'll wait a bit for the crawling caves..
I know an easy free place to see glow worms in Whangarei. Better at night. Just a short walk from the car. Will tell you the secret when your ready for another Northland adventure.
Another lovely vlog where your love for NZ shines through. It’s been said already but the glow worms are incredible at Waitomo. There are several caves/companies doing trips so do a bit of research first as they all differ slightly e.g. photos allowed or not, accessibility, time of the tour etc.

You went up to the heads and you didn't go to Ocean Beach wow. Best place to go after climbing Mt. Mania and one of the best beaches anywhere.
Good thing to keep in mind for next time! And maybe summer 😅
Keep up the great work, thanks for your views

I feel as though the glow worms keep evading me! And yeah our legs felt like jelly on the way down. But it was so worth it!
Did you manage to head out to Pataua? Or stop in at the Parua Bay Tavern? I lived in Pataua South for most of high school and it’s beautiful there
No we didn't! I had never heard of any of those, next time we go up there we will check it out.

The Kiwi sun is still harsh in winter, hats on your heads is still a good idea.
I WOULDN'T HAVE GONE INTO THE CAVE EITHER!!!
We tried, but figured maybe we should try again when it wasn’t so rainy and maybe the water will be lower 🤷🏼♀️
No way! Pics is way better!

"Glow worms" are very sensitive to light and noise and will "switch off".
Good to know! One day I'll find them :)

I remember the last little bit before the top wasn't a staircase, it was just foot holes in the rock

Oh wow! I much prefer the stairs. There's no way you'll find me climbing up a mountain with a rope.
No wonder all the sports teams in NZ do so well! They have so many natural "gyms" to work out on!
No way. Nope. Wouldn't have made it.
