The donut represents the circle of people waiting in the queue, the circle of people in the queue represents society and its endless demands for conformity. The girl gets sick of it, tries to leave through conventional means (going back to find the exit) to her shock realizes it's an endless loop, so climbs out through the wall, in effect red-pilling herself (the bite taken out of the donut). The guy pissing in a bottle represents humanity's disgusting disregard for others. The guy smashing the violin represents creativity getting quashed by the very people it's supposed to entertain. This is just my interpretation, but I love this video!

I can see why this didn't make it into SOAD. Its perfect for Serj.
I agree one hundred percent! Its amazing work! However, it would never work in system imo. System to me will always be heavy metal, this is just too different from that.
I don't agree. Since SOAD became Darons one man show, their music has become more generic. SOAD never was a classic "heavy metal band", whatever that may be. But they always were alternative and experimental. SOAD in their best times were always a band that combined stuff that seemed not to fit. That's the magic. If they got their shit together, they could make heavy music with Serj's amount of depth and experimantation. That would be great. I don't see any reason, why this shouldn't fit on a SOAD record. If this would be on a SOAD record, the other guys would add their influences. It would not be the same track, but probably even better. SOAD limited their own creativity by declining stuff like that.
On the other hand, I believe this would work with System perfectly. This song and the rest of EP was worked on before the comeback of System and before the war in Artsakh based on Q&A session with Serj aviable on Patreon. According to my understanding the rest of the band didn't really rejected the songs they just didn't have the opportunity to meet up and try them as a band. By that time Serj was even sceptical about System ever releasing any song together, it was in spring summer of 2020.
@@lukesch98 Disagree, this song could work prefectly if it was arranged for a heavy/punk. When you strip the layers of synths you hear clearly a heavy vibes. On the other hand when you take any System' song e.g. Sugar and play it on synths it will sound new age. It's the mastery of their music. Both Serj's and Daron's.
@@wolfgangengel4835 Agree! System has been putted to the "heavy music shelf" by media since they really didn't know where to put them, is punk, is it rock, is it metal? One host of Finnish Radio Rock said once that System's magic is indeed that they are impossible to be labeledas a specific style.

This is surreal
Here is my interpretation of the video, to anyone who cares: the never ending room with the chairs represents material life (the one we are at right now, where people are born, eat, sleep, bathe, get education, go to work, reproduce and die over and over again). People believe they are going somewhere and wait patiently for a reward of their compliant behavior while they hold on to whathever they possess. Some only have the chair (wich could mean a body or some kind of "opportunity"), others have "gifts", such as a violin (wich means the ability to create music and seems to bother another giftless soul). Some people are reading while they wait (meaning that they are using their waiting time to accumulate knowledge), others are just mindlessly gazing, others are realy upset and seem to not take anything out of it except complaints and strifes. Everytime someone gives up what they have or gets distracted by something else that wasn't even their business, somebody else is ready and willing to take their place, believing they are "getting ahead in life". The girl represents a non-compliant soul, who starts questioning the pointless way things are schemed to work. The severals "I won't" and "never will we" in the lyrics reinforce this idea of non-compliance. At a certain point she is so frustrated by her realization that she won't even move (I guess that looks a lot like depression). The policeman symbolizes the "powers that be", the forces that try to hold back and silence anyone who dares to break the stablished rules of the "chair game". As the girl jumps out of the window, refusing to continue on the game, she discovers a new life with no walls, hallways, chairs or policemen, wich, to me, symbolises the awakening to a spiritual life, where the soul is able to "run" free. My first language is portuguese, so I hope there are not many errors in my writing that would make it even harder to understand this interpretation. Thanks to everyone that read until the end!

I was thinking the same things. When she leaves the chairs and loses her place, it looks like she has to go all the way to the back of the line (because of authority, the security guard) When she gets there she sits next to a dead guy... Is this the end of the line?

O inglês está ótimo. Única coisa que deixou um pouco maçante de ler é ter ficado uma "parede" de texto, sem parágrafos. A interpretação também me parece ser bem precisa. Gostei da analogia com a depressão na parte em que ela permanece letárgica, não havia visto assim. Também vi o clipe como uma representação de um despertar espiritual ou, no mínimo, uma revolta contra os inumanos (porém banalizados) mecanismos do Sistema.

It seems to me that SOAD die-hard fans dislike this simply becouse it's not SOAD. But it's a great song and music video. I think that Serj artistically needs more space than SOAD can provide for him.

I listened to every single song they released at least 10-15 times. This sounds very similar to SOAD itself, not Serj's solo songs and I love it. The video makes it even better. Shot by a really talented guy and starring a young actress with a big potential if you ask me

Exactly! Serj always has some more melodic and classical rock leanings, and I think that works out very nicely with his solo stuff, I would be kind of thrown off listening to some of his stuff on a SOAD album. So since he can't come to complete agreement with SOAD about a new album, this is the next best thing
As an SOAD fan, I don't dislike this just because it doesn't sound like SOAD, I don't like it much because it isn't that good. I like half the song but the other half is bogged down with noise. I'm also a Serj Tankian fan and I don't know, he's very hit and miss for me. Occupied Tears for example sounds like it comes from an SOAD album but then the album is actually comes from has a lot of hit or miss songs that I don't want to put on repeat or rather listen to the whole album and instead pick and choose songs.

PanSamKlepav, сразу видно не так давно знаком с его творчеством. А он еще лет 8 назад на ютубе короткий метр делал, правда, поделен на две части. Там фишка была с какой-то приблудой, если она взаимодействовала с водой, чел телепортировался в другое место, а фильм начинался с того, что в офисе главный герой эту приблуду крадет из сейфа, и начинаются погони и перестрелки как в хардкоре.
