    isolating a skill is the best way to improve it, so here's a mapset I made for drilling different length bursts! in the video, I explain how I use this mapset to train finger control with my off-finger. personally, I start patterns with my index finger, so I use this mapset to practice starting patterns with my middle finger. enjoy!!

    I used to ignore low bpm maps and on top of that I singletapped them up to 280 bpm 1/2 or 140 bpm 1/4. Even after I started working on low bpm maps I always singletapped flamingo's bpm (220 1/2 or 110 1/4) because it was comfortable for me so when I discovered this map it was really tough for me to alt and I couldn't even comprehend the gaps between 110 bpm doubles tapping way too early as a result. The first session of playing it (a week ago) I got 46, 50 and 60% not even being able to fc it. At that point I thought "god why did you choose the bpm THIS low?" but I took it as a challenge. 4-5 sessions later I got my first B rank on it with ~85%. However I wasn't in the mood to play the game much so I can't say anything about any effects of this map yet as in how it helps with other maps. I assume it will improve my UR on patterns involving both fingers and will make me fingerlock less
    Also I want to thank you for everything you do for the community. You're a godsend

    Idk if this is gonna work but for people who don't like plain straight forward practice maps try doing DT on 3-4 star maps- or doing DT on maps that have 2 note stacks. Some maps at 3-4 star involve the stream type of section ig. Idk if it works but for me i did see an improvement even if it's little but it's worth a shot atleast. Everyone improves in different ways after all and it's not just one particular way.
    Do note tho: DT'ing other maps can go above 200bpm so i wouldn't exactly recommend doing this if you haven't experienced some high bpm maps first. Might burn your fingers straight off.
    Edit: the reason why i would think this work is kinda bc some maps really just Forces you to alternate at perfect intervals that's why i thought it would work. It prob. Isn't practically and if you really haven't experienced high BPM i wouldn't recommend doing it. Ik it's not practical pls don't attack me for it it's just my version of doing finger control. Idk if it can apply to other people.

      @BestOfAnime idk about that. I feel like that would give you better rhythm sense but idk if it would actually help you in real maps. There's not a lot of scenarios in a real map where you can put all of your focus into the rhythm of a map. You always have to read and aim along with it. If someone has really poor rhythm sense this could help them out but if you're even a little competent in following the rhythm you should probably practice like Hypno described

    • @7kenjoyer

      Try tapping consecutive triples in notepad at the speed you're comfortable with. It will help you to get the hang of it

    • @honmi
      @honmi  3 роки тому +51

      pay close attention to the inconsistencies in your taps on the hit error graph. each triple has 3 circles, so each triple creates 3 lines on the graph. pay attention to what order those lines appear in. watching your own replay can help you with this, because it's sometimes hard to see these things while also playing.
      anyway, for example, if the 2nd hit of every triple tends to be early every time compared to your 1st and 3rd hits, that could tell you that you need to be more deliberate in the movement of your "other finger" when doing the second tap, rather than just kinda .. pressing it down "at some point" between the 1st and 3rd taps".
      hopefully that sort of makes sense as to how you can go about analyzing your own hit error graph / tapping inconsistencies, and of course, as you mentioned, if you'd like to send a replay and/or talk to me about this more, feel free to dm me or catch me on stream :D

    Learning to full alternate is also a good way to master finger control since it requires a lot more finger control than single tapping alone. You are also training both of your fingers to adapt to tapping no matter what happens. Jumps, bursts, streams, basically everything. You use both of those fingers for that.

    • @honmi
      @honmi  3 роки тому +1

      yes this is true, but the way I see it, if your ability to start with finger 1 is way better than your ability to start with finger 2, you'll need to bring finger 2 up to speed first before continuing with full alt (or at least you'll want to)

      It's been a week, it was really fun(pure suffering) but feels like i'm getting better overtime with this kind of training, firstly i started to feel more comfortably with stacks of 2 and 3 on maps(before i just spammed shit out of them XD), and low bpm stream. It felt like i'm actually controlling what i'm doing, unique experience i would say,Secondly UR lowered a bit but still far from what i would like to have(before: 4 star maps UR ~350, After: UR 190~ at easy 4 star maps, 220-280 at hard 4 star maps). Also, it's really hard to go against the way you always played, the amount of frustration i got at the beggining was immense, but i was able to get over it.

    • @7kenjoyer
      @7kenjoyer 3 роки тому

      no. it defeats the purpose of the map. he intentionally chose a 110 bpm song (as in bpm this low) because of how much finger control it requires

    • @honmi
      @honmi  3 роки тому +1

      if you get "very good" at the mapset then sure, nothing is stopping you. but it would likely be better to just start training other tapping methods at the same bpm instead. for example, if you get very good at this mapset while starting everything with your index finger, try also getting good at it while starting everything with your middle finger, or perfectly alternating, or switching your fingers randomly. that'll keep you developing your fundamental finger control even more than if you were to just speed it up a bit

      the approach circles in no mod are just there as reference to help u know when to time it, but never use it as a direct indication. u should get used to it based off of the music which is why hidden is such a praised mod for helping u actually get used to the thought of "playing to the beat" rather than to the approach circles. once u are good with that and ur accuracy is always good, then naturally you would have a great sense of what feels right, since what feels right will be based off the song. as for me, I don't even actually look at the approach circles directly without HD, I just see an approach circle, know the speed and listen to the song, and already look at the upcoming circles to click

      I assume he meant making sure your fingers move in a smooth motion one after another and making sure their movement is as consistent as possible instead of kinda mashing especially when it comes to streams. One of the bad habits is galloping with your fingers which is more like doing doubles even on streams rather than streaming

    • @honmi
      @honmi  3 роки тому +1

      by muscle memory I meant that over time, you'll get more and more used to that certain motion of your fingers, and it'll start feeling more natural. if you're talking about how I said to leave your aim hand where it usually is, well.. if you try putting your aim hand somewhere else, you might see what I mean. it just feels different. it's a similar difference to moving your mouse with your other hand on your lap vs. moving your mouse with your other hand on wasd / qwer

    I am a player that never single taps and only alternates. My dominant finger when it comes to starting streams and double is my middle finger. How should I use this training when it comes to "the dominant finger?" Do I split each pass between each finger? Or do I practice, lets say for a month, until I feel comfortable with one finger and then switch to focusing on the other? Or do I change the dominant finger in the middle of the map? I know I shouldn't focus on just one finger, so how do I effectively split the training between both my fingers?

    • @honmi
      @honmi  3 роки тому

      I'd say to start with the finger you're least comfortable with, so in your case, your index finger. in short, you should just be doing whatever you're least comfortable with so you can bring that style up to speed with everything else. once you start feeling equally / more comfortable with your index finger than your middle finger, you can start going back and forth, or even doing other weird, random combinations of movements with your fingers. hopefully that helps!! thanks for the comment
