Power Man and Iron Fist was one of the best comics of the 70's and 80's. I loved it, as a kid.
I have them all! Lucky to also have every Iron Fist and nearly every Luke Cage Hero for Hire. Great characters!
U R correct I was always a fan of Iron Fist, I leaned archery and then karate as well as rifle shooting and sword fencing. Iron fist was my hero and I used to punch bricks and walls to get my fist hard.( for real).
As eye-rolling as his back-story is, he WAS designed to mirror the Blaxploitation movies of the time, & they managed to hit every beat.
Which was the style at the time.
Yes the VERY worst not the best of Blaxploitation. Luke Cage was a awful name that made it worse you know the writers were all white guys who never live in a black ghetto.
Why do you have a playlist full of BDSM videos? Freaky ahh dude
I FUCKING love LC!!! He was always one of my favorite MARVEL characters....FULL DISCLOSURE, I can relate to him across the board, from youth, incarceration, reemerging, redemption , and FINALLY FULL MATURITY!! ...plus being happily married to woman outside my race!!! I FEEL LIKE HIM AND BLACK PANTHERS CHARACTERS WERE OVERLOOKED FOR FAR TOO LONG!
I am still angry that the show was cancelled None of us got to see how Luke was running Harlem or got to see Diamondback make his infamous
Return
Same.
@@OneBDennis What was your favourite Episode
I'm with you on that.
The Marvel and Netflix partnership produced some of the most iconic TV series I've ever seen. I wished it would've continued. I was also hoping that Netflix would've picked up Agents of Shield and Agent Carter at some point. I even thought they'd make a Ghost Rider series after Agents of Shield did such a good job with the character.
I remember the library in my highschool had a Luke Cage: Hero For Hire omnibus. That was my first exposure to Luke Cage and I've been a fan ever since.
I collected Luke Cage and Iron Fist comic books in the late 70s. I just love seeing comics that I've read come to life on the big and small screen! SWEET CHRISTMAS!!
Luke is definitely one of my favorite Marvel heroes!
"Where's my money honey?"
- Luke Cage to Doctor Doom
You do an excellent job with narration. I enjoy the 80s vibe that you give with these origins. Keep up the excellent work and I hope one day that you’ll do the origin of Spiderman.
Luke cage deserves a spotlight they need to make a movie of him he’s interesting
I dig those groovy threads, baby!
Great origin story and Mike Colter did an amazing job with the role.
LOVE IT!!!! LOVE IT!!! LOVE IT!!!! Excellent analysis, as always. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
My favorite hero.
Sweet Christmas, I love this character!
Sweet Christmas
You forgot about Luke paying Dr. Doom a visit after the latter tried to skip out without paying him and that Luke fought Power Man for the rights to the name. 🙂
Hero for Hire #9
Dude borrowed a jet from the Fantastic Four, flew to Latveria and demanded his payment of $200. Granted, $200 was a lot back then.
Marvelous presentation! Keep 'em coming and Make Mine Marvel!
I love your channel!!
Movies and TV are fun, but comics are the Real Deal. This stuff is really great to learn. I've been a comic book guy since I was a kid ( born in 1970 ), but this is very educational!
That was way better than the Netflix show..
I was waiting for a Heros for Hire TV show. I hope they fix that. All I heard in my head was the Luke Cage theme song.
Luke Cage is really nice💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
your enthusiasm comes through your voice... i enjoy this content very much.
Luke Cage is just a regular guy with heroic power, but lives a normal life. Somewhat.
I learned saying "Sweet Christmas" from a late 1970s Luke Cage: Power Man book...my strict catholic Mom heard me and I got grounded, said I was taking the Lord's name in vain ... so I have one thing to say...SWEET CHRISTMAS!!!
Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus or his father, in fact it's origin is long before Jesus was ever born, ...and no, Jesus wasn't born on Christmas!
@@mrg466 ...you are correct. Jesus was also probably either an exaggerated real figure or more than likely, a myth. Horus, Mithra, Krishna, Dionysus, Baldur, etc...its the same recycled myth over & over thru time. Noah tale is also recycled, for example hs was called Ushnapitnm in Sumerian lore. The New Testament was created by the Romans (Council of Mycenaea) to keep the population of the time in control.
@@thedoncrazephaze5375 first off, I'm highly against the teachings of the Catholic Church! Second, I believe in Jesus, I also believe he's the son of God. I also believe the Bible contains many contradictions. I believe the origins of Christmas, are tied in with false worship! I also believe, that Jesus should never be connected with Christmas! Nevertheless, I respect your beliefs.
@@mrg466 ...good enough, nothing wrong w/believing in Jesus/God in the grand scheme of searching for truth. I respect your beliefs as well.Debate is healthy.take care & all the best. Maybe one day we all will know whats goin on with this existence!!!
@@thedoncrazephaze5375 yup yup!
Man i miss the comic's from the 70's
I still have all of mine and as a matter of fact I just bought Luke cage 8 and 9 the time when he flew the Latvia because Dr.Doom owed him...............$200!
Yeah, they were more wild back then and were more willing to take risks. The plots were pretty simplistic and repetitive, however.
Rewatching your old video, as this channel was recommended to me a couple of days ago. Shocking. This is all great. Marvel UK fan.
This was a wonderful rendition of the Luke Cage Story!👌👌👌✔✔✔🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯👍
Very very informative!!
Thank you
This is way more comprehensible than the Netflix show for sure.
You mean way more convoluted.
Sure is, the Netflix series should've introduced these characters instead of "shades" the series shifted focus from the title character to the Mayor, Alfre Woodard played the part very well however, and Mike Colter is a horrible onscreen fighter with little to no personality, no surprise it was cancelled...
@@adrian72300 ok I Iwwi
He turns out good videos
You have the best channel on You Tube I’m watching all you videos from start to finish please continue this content I will be joining your Pateron soon.... I found you once Cosmic comics stop the Marvel content thank you for filling that void
"Nearly unbreakable" ?. Oh it's unbreakable, except to adamantium. Can be melted too.
Sweet Christmas 🎄
WE LOVE YOU LUKE CAGE...!
My favorite Luke Cage moment was when he tried to steal the Fantastic Four's jet to fly to Latveria to fight doctor doom for not paying him.
The commentor has a flare for story telling, a network like this was needed years ago to introduce new readers to Marvel history of not only 1st tier heroes and villains but the more obscure lesser known characters. Excelsior fellas.
Thank you for sharing this. You have made my day!!!!🙂
Found u like 2 weeks ago n has been my fav YT since
Bushmaster sounds like he's lucky with the women
They did a really good job adapting this to that Netflix show I really loved the first season but iron fist ruined it
And don't forget he was the leader of the Thunderbolts
Love these stories
Can you do a origin of the silver surfer
Yep 100%
He did
My favorite character! I cosplay him!
I know this hero as Power Man and I will always call him Power Man..
I first saw him in the powerman and iron fist comic's.☀️🐺🌙🐺
Love your channel!!!
Fantastic hero ❤️❤️
Thank you great channel
Yesssssssssss I LOVE your videos!!!
You left out Dr Doom. He wants his money honey.
Bro love your channel !!
Can you do iron fist origin video please
Always liked Power Man back in the 90s he always took care of his own affairs. Never running around for trouble that's what Misty was for hahahaha.
Baby Danielle was replaced by a skrull more than a decade ago. From what I can tell, Luke and Jessica's REAL daughter is lord knows where, and the kid they're raising is still the skrull.
Yes.! Luke Cage is awesome.! 👍🏽👍🏽
Did Bushmaster ever team up with Manscape? That's one hair-raising showdown I'd like to see.
Fantastic!
Great channel. Well done.
Thank you very much!
Can you do silver surfer origin
I love the background music in the video where can find the song at
I. Loved. That. Book. In. The. 70s
That bullsht on Netflix had Luke Cage getting shot by a bullet that drilled into him ..... fk outta here!!!!!
I wish Mike Colter and Simone Missick will reprise their roles
You can thank Disney for why they're not playing the roles that made them famous.
ive still got a tattered copy of #1!
Amazing
is there anyway you can do an episode on julia carpenter the second spider woman?
Disney don’t want to make the black super heroes. The black panther was good now they getting rid of that too. All they have to do is make another one and keep his helmet on.
MerryMarvelite Do a Origin Story of Thin Man from Marvel Comics.
One of Earth's Mightiest Dads! And Moms!
Moms?
@@sonsonthegoddessofconfusio3183 yes, Jessica Jones.
Luke Cage vs. Tombstone. Who would win??
Cage
They've had two encounters. Poor Tombstone.
@@alissa6 That fight was as one sided as the time Ali fought an 80ft tall mechanical Joe Frazier.
The only thing you could have added was a time Luke cage flew to Latvia because doom owed him $200
Hero for Hire #9
@@MrBronx61 it started in #8 I finally have both
@@willisix2554 '70s Marvel was the best, when you could buy 5 comics for $1.00
@@MrBronx61 oh yea it was and you didn't have to normaly have to buy 6/7 titles to finish one story line
@@willisix2554 Except for the Avengers vs Defenders and the Kree/Skrull War, there weren't many crossovers back then.
SWEET CHRISTMAS!💪💪💪💪💪
There's an awful version of Luke Cage in Spiderman cartoons where Luke is about 18 and his parents are SHIELD scientists, and his costume is totally different, as is how he talks and behaves. It's such a mega insult to the character and fans. Makes me sick.
Luke Cages back story plays out like The Count of Monte Cristo.
I loved The Defenders!
cool content
Tell me about the history of Halloween Jack from the X-Men
Man I love this!!!!!!!!!🙏
2:23 Charlie Murphy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Childhood
what abpit luke cage being a fugitive for killing iron fist?
Are you gonna do the ultmo video
Luke cage looks like he has Powerman🙏
Wish he went back to his og look. Looked a lot cooler than some bald dude
Despite the generic codename, Luke is awesome.
The first iteration a this guy I saw was the Zombie version.
Luke breaks into FF headquarters to "borrow a rocket" then later Reed hires him to temporarily replace Ben in the group. No background check or anything, he runs around for years doing his own thing, but all it takes is Misty running his fingerprints to find out who he really was. They never did conclude that story arc dealing w/ that IRS agent digging into his business, either.
And I wonder if Luke & Jessica's daughter will age like Franklin Richards has over the years...or have super-powers, or be a mutant?
As a black man who has been reading all 70's Cage and Hero for Hire, including John Ostrander's run in the 90's I'll say something unpopular, Bendis ruined Cage by marrying him off. He's so dull and boring now. I respect the fact Bendis put him in high profiled books, but outside of that he hurt him in the long run. Perhaps it's because the relationship with Jessica had very little build before the marriage and she was a relatively new character but Bendis' Cage of today is trash compared to the character he was before. Was he stereotypical in the 70's, sure. But Bendis' also wrote stereotypes with him. The only difference 70's Cage had more personality and was more fun to read about rather than just a loud mouth catering to his trashy wife. Cage should've married She-Hulk.
The thing about Power Man's strength level in the 70's and 80's confused me. Originally he had trouble breaking a chain. Later could trade blows with Spider Man and the Thing. By 1983, in the Thing's comic Marvel Two In One, The Thing beat Cage with ease. Then in the second Handbook of the Marvel Universe in 1986 his entry claimed he could lift 3 tons. That's not much. I know he's a lot stronger now. Which is good.
You make Spider-Man sound like he's a powerhouse, you should have mentioned his fight with Dr.Doom instead, which he won. Luke beat the Thing and F4 at the same time in the 70's and 90's. He beat the Thing and Vision at the same time in 2000's. He also traded blows with a Thor clone. Carol Danvers, Spider-Man, Daredevil and Iron Fist had to sit this one out and watch Wolverine and Luke fight the Thor clone since they were the only two that posed a threat to the android.
@@alissa6 Actually, Power Man, in the original FF series # 169 beat three of the FF and Ben Grimm in his human form. But the team knew Cage was being mind controlled so they went easy on him. And the#170 issue had Grimm wearing a thing suit that gave him less strength and he and Cage were pretty even in combat. In issue 171 Reed Richards said the suit gave Grimm 90% of his former strength. Now, if Cage can only lift 3 tons. and The Thing 85 tons according to my much read Marvel Handbooks, it's no mystery Power Man is weaker. Even with Grimm at 90%. In addition, Marvel Two In One (Original Series) # 94 had The Thing beat Cage without breaking a sweat. Cage had difficulty bending a steel girder and throwing it at The Thing, who caught it and threw it back at Cage saying he knew it took everything Cage had to bend and throw it. Also, Spider Man has usually been able to lift 10 tons. In the early 2000's, 15 tons. Cage has had a power boost since he's been in the Avengers, but in the old days, Power Man just couldn't cut it. And Doom? That was just repeated blows to Doom's armor by Cage in the same area. Cage does have dense muscle and the proverbial steel hard skin. I have even more evidence but I've gone way past nerd level.
@@mikewilson3581 Seems to me Invisible Woman was fighting for her life trying to hold him, and the fight where the only time the Thing won he did more than just "break a sweat" it was an even fight where Luke didnt seem interested in partaking. In Marvel ultimate alliance his simulator disc mission was against Ultron, the Thing's was against Rhino, that shows you the difference. He beat the Living Monolith, knocked Rhino(twice), Sabretooth, Orka(mad strong), Iron Clad(evil Ben Grimm basically), defeated Juggernaut, sent Venom flying twice. It says he was upgraded but he was actually nerfed if anything since he had better feats and more respect by writers and media back in his yellow shirt days. Don't take those strength scales too literal, and even though they matter very little.
You want a hierarchy classification that doesn't revolve around strength but more about overall character? Well Marvel has already done that, and Luke Cage was classed "level 6", The Thing was classed "level 5", Spider-Man was classed "level 4".
@@alissa6 In the 60's and 70's Sue Storm was always fighting for her life. She was the weak link of the team until John Byrne, during his run in the early 80's, made her more confident and the most powerful member. And Cage vs. The Thing? Cage was trying to keep Grimm occupied and in order to do that he had to be at full attention. Again, You pit someone who can lift battle tanks (Thing) for exercise against someone (Cage) who has difficulty lifting a car? No contest. And speaking of contest, Marvel Two In One Annual # 7 in which The Champion kidnapped Earth's strongest heroes for his contest in the boxing ring to prove Earth was worthy, selected all the regulars you'd expect. But Power Man wasn't selected. The lowest strength level in the group was 70 tons. (Doc Samson, Sasquatch, and Colossus). Of course Colossus is an adult now and stronger. By the way, you do realize these characters are works of fiction don't you? It's like Mailer vs. Vidal over comic books.
@@mikewilson3581 You sure Luke struggles to lift a car? Im pretty sure toppling the Living Monolith, lifting and throwing a bulldozer and lifting and carrying a freight truck for miles tells me he'd lift a car pretty easy.
Also I stand corrected, Luke wanted that fight. I also forgot to state his fights with Proxima Midnight, Doc Samson and Wonder Man.
Moved all the way up the ladder to mayor of New York.
His metal is the same as wonder woman
