I interpret the direction to have the cast with their backs turned while performing Fall Fair Suite (and the sheer curtain) is a way to signify that they're still alive and haven't crossed to the other side yet where we, the audience, are waiting to see their final concert.
I love the parts where Ricky starts singing, it’s a subtle note that they’re dead also the funky dancing is fun to me too because on a crashing rollercoaster your limbs would clearly be flying everywhere! That’s why all the funky dancing they do during that part has them throwing their arms everywhere ((especially Ricky bc he’s fun to watch))
I concur on the Ricky dancing! And singing when he’s dead! I think it’s subtle but an important assistant to the audience to signal the deadness of them all!
Yes Noel's actor is the same! Kholby Wardell originated the role all the way back in 2008 and was in the show all the way until the production of the cast album in 2020 !!
ricky actually is singing! the full version of wftd is somewhere on youtube, and you can hear the second that he joins in. its a super cool section- you can hear the exact second that they die. this is the only version that ever made me notice just how dead the choir is. its really fun to me lol
9:20 yeah Noel's the same actor for most of RtC's productions, but Mischa's actor is a different one from the the one in Fall Fair Suite (the one in Fall Fair is Gus Halper, not sure who the actor in this show is) in both versions Noel and Mischa dance together, but you're right that in Fall Fair the actors were more synched up and kept a strict rhythm
You were on the right lines with Ricky, as far as I know he starts singing because it's supposed to be them after the crash, like you said about them singing about seeing the town from the afterlife. Also this is my favourite of the intros I'm so happy you did it hehehehe
Jane Doe's voice actually is in Waiting for the Drop! You can see that the video cuts at 4:48, but there's an audio-only version of the full song on UA-cam that includes a couple eerie Karnak monologues, an extra verse about the roller coaster going off the track, and Jane Doe's ascending theme where you can hear her voice just like in Fall Fair Suite. In my opinion, the full song sets the mood of the show much better than this slightly shortened version, and the part with the ascending theme sounds soooooo cool :D
My interpretation This version focuses on the final thoughts of the kids the excitement of the ride the possibly most exciting thing in their town to ever happen. The promotion video cuts a verse before the "sailing through space" as the kids realize their no longer on the track reacting to their impending doom The" sailing through space" in this version is more airy I guess with the kids now being dead (which is why Ricky can speak) not knowing before going to back to euphoria of how they feel moments before on rollercoaster "round and round" before realizing sad Truth their dead "Oh we're never going back" the " are we ever going back" could be Karnaks influence or them hoping that this wasn't the end of their life
Another song/s you could listen to is Karnak's dream of life and Jane doe's entrance you could get them both done in one video they are fantastic. I love Emily Rohm so much (Jane Doe Actor) 🤩 Edit: Also the new birthday song (Emmie Sage suggested this in replies and I 100 percent agree)
I suggest listening to Is not a game/Is just a ride. Is the final song from the musical and always gets me. It repeats line from Fall fair suit and you can notice the difference from “just died” to “finally accepted”
A cool detail: at the end of the song, when Ocean says "life was about to start" she is ahead of everyone and is not dancing with the rest, showing that she realized they were going to die
ATLEAST in this show: When ricky starts singing it indicates that he died. so when the tone switches to the theme that's in fall fair suite is them falling to their deaths and dying (however the show has gone through different versions with different openings, I think 4 total) (Also, Kholby martin plays noel in almost every production, the actress who plays contancee and ocean are also fairly common in most productions but there are different people)
Heya! I love your ride-the-cyclone reactions and I thought it would be nice to drop the songs you haven't reacted to yet! • Tragic Fact (original opening) • Uranium Suite (alternate opening) • Karnaks Dream Of Life (short) • Every Story Got A Lesson (short) • This song is awesome (a lot of autotune) • The New Birthday Song (short) • It's Not A Game/ Its Just A Ride (closing act) •Be Safe, Be Good/ (For Rachel) (tribute and alternate ending) (You're amazing, keep doing what you're doing! )
I will preface I’m fairly certain that every opening does have “sailing through space, don’t know up from down etc.” at least from the 3 that I’ve heard they do have that part word for word in all the songs, probably so they can all connect to the main story.
@@TokyoPinkCatGirl I wouldn’t doubt Tragic Fact was one of the first songs written for the show, before some lyrical motifs were solidified. “Round and round” was probably pretty early, but “sailing through space” took a couple iterations to catch on.
I cannot state this enough, you definitely need to watch The Uranium Suite. Its the finalized opening number, and while it's not my favorite song it's definitely up there. It also has a lot of necessary information for the show that isn't in the other opening tracks, and has my favorite version of the entire 'round and round' bit. The version I'm reccomending IS the cast recording though, so I'm not sure if there's an actual stage clip to play on UA-cam. If you're fine just displaying the cover art though, I definitely 100% reccomend it.
I think waiting for the drop is very fun, however the vocal strength of the actors isn't anywear near as strong as in the newer version, but I love the way they perform it, though as you say it doesn't set the scene the same way the new ones do. Also I LOVE your little headpiece, it's very Fiona from Shrek Broadway. Also btw I think it'd be really cool if you did a reaction of the full musical performed by the McCarton theatre just to see what they have done more recently. The McCarton version is directed by the same person but they have a much bigger budget and a lot of the performers made some really interesting choices with the characters.
Ricky IS singing because he was able to sing after he died but the script had changed between the two versions and in this one nobody realized until he pointed it out as in the version you saw ocean was the one to point it out because in that one they had basically “grown up with eachother” as to why ocean says to musha and Noel that they sucker at math implying that they had class with eachother at some point. And why he wasn’t sining in uranium suit because he didn’t know he could sing ( sorry if this is confusing
I 100% agree with you that the tone that Fall Fair Suite sets for the show is so much more accurate and satisfying than Waiting For The Drop. I also think the dance between Mischa and Noel is really important to set the tone for their relationship throughout the musical. I think that they both have character traits that are extremely similar, yet they are portrayed in different ways. They are both very passionate and romantic and emotional, and they understand each other and feel for each other because of that. I also think that their difference in personality mixed with their similarities in character traits really makes them compliment each other in a really cool way! I think that their dance in Fall Fair Suite is a really great representation of this because they dance/hold on to each other as their falling and it shows the audience right at the start of the show that these two characters trust each other and have a really beautiful rhythm as they interact.
7:40 it really is weird that Ricky is singing there. I know as of like two months ago they announced they were removing Ricky's disabilities (because they didn't want to accommodate what some disabled people had wanted to be changed so the show was less ableist) and that's what my mind immediately jumped to. But this video was recorded way before that. It genuinely might be that it's like "oh, he's dead now, he can speak!"
I love this conversation. It makes me sad that we feel the need to ‘remove disabilities’ when people with disabilities fought so hard to be represented and accommodated for jobs. Plus it’s a beautiful party of the story. However, I guess I can see where some may feel being made fun of. But realistically, we create the same serious “disability” story over and over again. I feel most want to indulge in humor. Life is too serious already! My personal observances…thank you for watching!
@Ashley Kennedy I agree. Especially when you learn what people had wanted changed, it was basically just "hay, Ricky dying then imedietly becoming vocal and able to walk plays into ablist tropes." I saw one video suggest having him sign in ASL and then have a voiceover for him interpretating the ASL. My mind immediately thought of a whole bunch of creative ways that could be implemented. It's such a shame the creators of the show decided to just cut it out. Especially since it would've been such a good peace of representation. Especially if they worked with a disabled actor for Ricky. But, that's just my thoughts.
I cannot WAIT for you to react to Tragic Fact. It's my favorite opening of ALL OF THEM and I think you'll love it! It's very similar to fall fair sweet but it's still different enough I think you should make a video on it
Fun fact: This isn't actually the full song! The part of the video where it looks like it just cuts to another part of the song is leaving out a small part of the song, which I really hate! There are some videos that have the full audio though
they actually did add jane's voice to the song, but the part where you hear her was cut out of the video. you can find the full song by looking up 'ride the cyclone full' and finding a mashup with every part
I believe when Ricky is singing it’s them already dead so he’s able to talk now but the rest of choir doesn’t realize it it’s meant for the audience to know something is wrong because Ricky can now sing sorry if this is late and you already got answered!
This is the same Noel from the other version you watched! His name is Kholby Wardell and he played Noel from RTC's creation in 2008 all the way until 2019, so get used to seeing him lol.
I feel like in this intro,we have a more of an introduction with their genre song, the part where they all sing dance turn around in the begginning in feel like i can recognize Noel's Lament( ≈ 1:44) ,What the world needs( ≈ 1:32) ,Sugar Cloud( ≈ 1:47) Talia(Mainly the "lalalala" part ≈ 4:45 ) and Space Age Bachelor Man(≈ 1:25)
fall fair suite introduces the characters more while tragic fact, waiting for the drop and uranium suite focuses more on uranium itself and how its a painfully small town
hey!!! you should do This Song Is Awesome. It’s Mischa’s first song and actual dissection of his character over anything else. it’s a very fun watch as well. and just wanted to add that like. please do a livestream watching this. please. it would be so fun.
Since this video is a couple months old, I'm not sure if you already know this, but Noel's actor, Kholby Wardell, has essentially played Noel in almost every performance of Ride The Cyclone since the beginning. Mischa's actor is different, in Fall Fair Suite, he's played by Gus Halper, and in Waiting For The Drop, he's played by Adam Standley
in your own time you should listen to the full version of waiting for the drop. it doesn’t have a video but it includes the second verse which in my opinion really set the tone and transitioned to the “we’re all just floating in space part” as it has the upbeat tone but sounds slightly more worried with more kind of unsettling lyrics. i think when you here it in full it’s a lot better
Aye! I’ve only seen the Harry Potter musicals however. I was a Darren Criss fan before he made the jump into the industry and started in Glee! Imagine my face though when he popped up on my tv screen. Hmmm I think starkid reactions may be in our future…. Ay??? 🤷♀️ 🤔 😆
Oh lord. I freaking love that song. And it’s so heart wrenching. Moulin Rouge was my absolute FAVORITE in high school and college. I watched the movie one repeat. I can not tell you how many times I belted elephant love medley snd Tango de Roxanne! Ahhh! Love. I really may have to do a break down video
LOL, about 3 hours ago I was checking to see if you uploaded more RTC content. Nope. And then just now I see you uploaded 2 hours ago. Yay me! Please do Uranium Suite/Tragic Fact next for RTC by the Canadian cast. It's the version I saw first 10 years ago and it's great - also a great way to see how the show evolved over time with so many versions of the opening number available to see on UA-cam - compared to the other songs. I consider Karnak's Dream of Life to be a prologue and I hope to see a reaction to that too, maybe with New Birthday Song since both songs are so short.
So basically how do you explain why all of the cast look the same from like Fall Fall to waiting for the drop is because most of these videos which showed the different openers were from the American tour except for tragic fact that was in Canada basically the tour went from Chicago 2015: Fall Fair Off-Broadway from 2016 to 2017: Fall Fair 2.0 or the widely-known Fall Fair, Seattle 2018: waiting for the drop the one you're currently listening to, and then finally to Atlanta for 2019: uranium suite as we know it today. And that is just the timeline of the tour basically the cast of the tour most of it would stay the same, Tiffany tatreau as ocean O'Connell Rosenberg, Lillian Castillo as Constance Blackwood, kolby Wardell as Noel Gruber, and finally Emily Rohm as Jane Doe oh, those were the actors that would remain each and every performance except if they had to call out for a family emergency or they were sick sadly Ricky and Misha had to be played by different actors throughout each of the performances I do not know the exact actors who played them in each performance all I know is that the one Ricky I know is Alex wyse who was in the Off-Broadway production Gus Halper who was in the Off-Broadway production and Chaz Duffy which I'm not sure which production he was in but I think it might have been the Atlanta one because Chaz was used for the cast recording I hope this shed some light on each of the actors also the reason why I didn't talk about Karnak's is for the sole purpose of I'm not even sure I think that they used a different person to voice Karnak for the album but for the Chicago through Atlanta Productions I'm not sure if it was the same person throughout or they got different people to play him
the sad part about the wftd video is that they cut out (imo) the best part !! D: it cuts out them feeling the spinning and the bright lights and jane’s part
I feel like the reason the queer waltz(and yes im calling it that) was so stiff in this version is because this was an earlier production and these things were likely just added in at an odd point so it didn't feel as natural as it does in later producrions because the queer waltz was now already a set in stone part of the show. Idk for sure, though.
This uis the full version of Waiting for the Drop: ua-cam.com/video/UE_DLE_3mTw/v-deo.html You clicked on the version that someone stitched with fall fair suite
After we finish the ride, could you react to confrontation from the jekyll and hyde musical please? I love that song sm and It’d be cool to hear a breakdown from you! ❤
The proshoot of WFTD is genuine dogshit. They cut out a massive chunk from the middle which has the choir actually on the rollercoaster dying. The extended version of waiting for the drop is the best narratively because its split into three chunks (them at the fair introduces the context of the town, them on the rollercoaster kicks off the plot and the last section has their reaction which introduces a bit of pathos) that Uranium Suite, Fall fair suite and Tragic Fact cover individually. The middle section really completes the song and makes it the best opening at least in my opinion.
THE VIDEO SHES REACTING SKIPS A WHOLE PART! She has to react to the full thing! This is my favorite opening but it has to have the “6:19” bit, it helps set the tone!
ua-cam.com/video/MXjONY_pVHE/v-deo.html&pp=ygUUd2FpdGluZyBmb3IgdGhlIGRyb3A%3D It goes into their death more and is why Ricky starts talking, they just don’t realize their dead yet

And that is just the timeline of the tour basically the cast of the tour most of it would stay the same, Tiffany tatreau as ocean O'Connell Rosenberg, Lillian Castillo as Constance Blackwood, kolby Wardell as Noel Gruber, and finally Emily Rohm as Jane Doe oh, those were the actors that would remain each and every performance except if they had to call out for a family emergency or they were sick sadly Ricky and Misha had to be played by different actors throughout each of the performances I do not know the exact actors who played them in each performance all I know is that the one Ricky I know is Alex wyse who was in the Off-Broadway production Gus Halper who was in the Off-Broadway production and Chaz Duffy which I'm not sure which production he was in but I think it might have been the Atlanta one because Chaz was used for the cast recording I hope this shed some light on each of the actors also the reason why I didn't talk about Karnak's is for the sole purpose of I'm not even sure I think that they used a different person to voice Karnak for the album but for the Chicago through Atlanta Productions I'm not sure if it was the same person throughout or they got different people to play him
Please please please watch Uranium Suite next! Just make this a trilogy of the three openings
the sad part about the wftd video is that they cut out (imo) the best part !! D: it cuts out them feeling the spinning and the bright lights and jane’s part
So I heard! How dare they!
You should definitely react to Meant to be yours heathers
I feel like the reason the queer waltz(and yes im calling it that) was so stiff in this version is because this was an earlier production and these things were likely just added in at an odd point so it didn't feel as natural as it does in later producrions because the queer waltz was now already a set in stone part of the show. Idk for sure, though.
Good theory!
The funny thing, is in another reaction video you did, you had a Harry Potter mug-
I have a ton of them lol
@@singwithAshley yeah lol it was the first thing I noticed!
please do tragic fact! it another opening. its with the orginal canadian cast i think. Its my favourtive opening
This uis the full version of Waiting for the Drop: ua-cam.com/video/UE_DLE_3mTw/v-deo.html
You clicked on the version that someone stitched with fall fair suite
Yes, I saw that link! I want to react to one with video. Those are hard to find!
watch the alternate version of WFTD
Which is what?!?!
After we finish the ride, could you react to confrontation from the jekyll and hyde musical please? I love that song sm and It’d be cool to hear a breakdown from you! ❤
Ooo that’s a fun yet challenging song to teach!
you should react to tragic fact
I am so passionate about how passionate you are about this 😊 send me a link here and I’ll redo it!

It goes into their death more and is why Ricky starts talking, they just don’t realize their dead yet
Also, it is just the cast recording edited together a little but they don’t move much during the part that wasn’t in your original part.
ashley i love ur videos! :3 im subbed on my other acc too
i cant for you to react to the other songs and you should do all the short ones in one video too
can you react to tragic fact? i love that one
also the noel actor is the same! Kholby Wardell, I think he was Noel for like 9 years??
Yess tragic fact is one of my favs! The Canadian cast is great
NOT RIDE THE CYCLONE BUT YOU SHOULD REACT TO DEAD GIRL WALKING FROM HEATHERS
5:24 i think because he's dead, and can talk now?
The video you watched isn't the complete song, but there is a video that has a full version but it's pretty much just patched together and part of it is just audio.
(Edited) I FOUND IT! ua-cam.com/video/UY9dDyUTkXo/v-deo.html
Their flinging movements look like they are being tossed around and their bodies contorted
Love that they’re connecting movement, to sound and character arch! They really did a beautiful job!
I strongly believe this is the worst opening, no hate to anyone who likes it i wish i could but oof not a fan
No opinion is the wrong one!
I think it would be fun if you reacted to Noel's Lament at the previews.(there's a different line in there)
Also I think that Ricky mouthed in the choir, like he never sung or talked but he mouthed and that might be how he got into the choir.
