I've been a Duke fan since the late 80s and I'm 44 now. I live in NYC and have been fortunate enough to see a number of games at Cameron Stadium. Everyone is amazed my loyalties aren't with Syracuse but I've been witness to what Coach K has brought to Duke University, to players, to families, to civic programs, to charities; he's a phenomenal man with a big heart. If you haven't read any books or articles on this upstanding coach you're missing out.
Duke is my dad's alma mater. Georgetown is mine and I love Clemson football. How about all the players as kids 12, 13 see someone play and they want to go to that school? Especially NC, how do you pick a team? Educated people know not to be a fan just because of the state. I've seen enough Boeheim to last a lifetime. My NY money does holds season tickets to the Knicks.
I have followed The Tar Heels since I was a teen. And I can truly say that this is a sad day . This man is not just a great coach, He is a wise man , and a Class act . When I think of this great rivalry and all of the Championship banners between the two schools, and the memories of the great shootouts , I realized how much I am going to miss Coach K ! It reminds me of the day that the Dean retired. To Coach K and all the great Blue Devil's fans: thanks for the Memories. . Lets make some new memories with new coaches :)
77 yeat old Tarheel fan: I've been watching this rivary since 1957 (32-0 Carolina team got me started) When I hear fans say they hate a coach, school, I like the word 'dislike' better ... Coach K will be greatly missed along with Dean, Roy amd Jimmy 'V' ... Without these great coaches and schools over the years, what fun would it have been? Thanks for the memories coach K ...

Sorry but that was a once in a lifetime historical gut punch to Duke and K’s legacy. Duke will NEVER get a chance to deliver a return blow like that to UNC. Maybe Duke giving UNC an L in a final four would match it but the chances of that happening are close to zero. That’s why this loss was so frickin EPIC! Much respect to Coach K’s career but he’s gonna be bitter about that loss til his last breath. And don’t expect Jon to come close to filling those shoes. Next year will be eye opening, especially if all the talent goes to the NBA.
