In the future you can bet, that folks will have forgotten all about the ammo draught that we suffered through, having more than one way to put meat on the table and defend what you love is priceless, and this is one of the best insurance policies you could ever have. The 12 Gauge single shot modified choke is the all time provider with dam near unlimited possibilities. Simple tough Reliable.
Just wanted to say thanks for all of these vids, Dave. I've been subscribed for quite a while, and I have to say, among the bushcraft/survival community, you really keep teaching in your videos. Video after video you keep sharing knowledge and I really appreciate it. Other channels work hard to have a large output, but they don't do much teaching at all after a short while. So thanks.
The 21th Century Longhunter series was great! Thank you.
When 2021 has come and finding primers or percussion caps are just as rare as ammo 😭🤣
Looks like a great product. I have been loading 12ga shells with my own cast 00bk and homemade black powder for years. I'll have to give this method a try. Thanks for another great video Dave.
Have you ever thought about going on The History Channels Alone? You would win hands down.
very cool Dave. I really like the idea of 1 firearm being able to shoot multi loads.
I notice in an older video in your 21 century long hunter video you said to put the primer on last in this one you did it first. I assume in the first video you were being more cautious? Just an observation.
You and Ray make a heck of a team Dave. That is a fantastic set of accessories. Ray does such a great job implementing these concepts for the SS shotgun. The versatility is amazing.
So Dave can I use a piece of wax paper as wadding over powder and a cottonball as wadding over shot using the brass black powder measurer tool ? I love this set up which will make my 12 ga. H&R ss shotgun so versatile another way of shooting when I run out of 12 ga. 20 ga. .410 ga. .22LR .22Mag. 38Spec. 9mm and .45Colt ammo !!!
While the ramrod is a good idea there is one thing that does happen when muzzleloading. Ramrods sometimes get stuck. Better off getting a cleaning rod for an m1a or other .30 cal cleaning rod.
Great Vid Dave! got my NEF 12 ga and getting my muzzleloader adapter for Christmas. Can"t wait to have some fun. Using BB's for shot. Gonna be some dead rabbits and squirrels. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Why is the single shot your preferred? I can understand single shot over an automatic for muzzleloader purposes, but is there a specific reason you like single shot over a double barrel? Just your preference or is there a specific reason?
as Dave said, check with your game wardon. I live in NC and they told me that because its a shotgun and made for a shot shell its not allowed as a muzzle loader. Bummer for me.
YES SIR!!!! Thank you Dave!! This video just answered every question I had about shooting BP in my H&R 12ga ss!!
Hi Dave. Great video as always. A quick question if I may. Is there any reason why the adapters and tool from shorthand arms would not work with the Thompson center Turkey gun? I looked for several months for a h&r or new England 12 gauge and could not find one in my area, so I paid way to much for the TC presenter Turkey 12 with replaceable chokes.
Dave, what about a primer remover?
Instead of a 12ga, I use a .410 in a Savage model 42 and have all of Short Lanes .410 to .22lr, .32H&R, .38spl, 9mm and the .410 black powder 209 adaptors. The only adaptors I wish they made are the .410 to .17HMR, .17 Mach II and .22mag. I use my black powder 209 adaptor with shot and also .350 ball with pillow ticking patch and use a very effective shot & ball combo. I find that the .410 allows my wife and kids to use the firearm as well. My 12ga is too heavy for my wife and kids to carry and use. Also not many combos out there in 12ga besides the Chiappa xSurvivor and for now that is just way too over priced for the low quality and what it is. The adaptors I have work with my Savage 42, 24C, M6 Scout, Garcia Bronco and even an vintage Marbles Game Getter I have as well as the SWD (Cobray) .410 double barrel pistols and shotguns. I prefer combo firearms to single shot stand alone shotguns for super fast follow up shots if needed. I also reload my .22lr using black powder and hand cast bullets and strike anywhere match heads as primers.
Very nice video Dave, like the products.
Do you plan on selling the tools separately? I could really use that choke gauge, but I do not need any other tools.
I really wish the adapter was longer. If it was longer, I could load a black powder load into it and use it kind of like a shotgun hull. I guess I could do that now with a shotgun hull, but a steel adapter would be better and last a long longer.
Your prior video about making a kit like this inspired me to blow the dust and cobwebs off the ole H&R and put together a kit myself. I enjoy shooting it more than my inline now. A pound of pyrodex RS in FL walmarts fetches $24 : ( Thanks for the great vids.
Never clicked on one of your videos faster
That 209 black powder adapter is cool, I hope some novice or dummy doesn't use smokeless powder, I know that's been a problem for a lot of other manufacturers of black powder products. Douglas barrels even made an excellent black powder barrel briefly but had to stop for that reason.
You must have sheep nearby. I use cotton patches and tallow. Get it anywhere.
would love to see this for 20 gauge I carry a pardner 20 Guage youth model and it's by far my favorite bush gun. I never head to the woods without it and this would just add to its versatility. don't get me wrong I love 12 gauge but I'm not in a hurry to pick-up one when I already had this as an option
you should do a 12 GA muzzleloader hunting video
love all your videos dave, great job as always... seems like you always have something in the works..lol cant wait til next
wildernessoutfitters, have you ever made spizer style slugs for a muzzle loader or pointed slugs? or is that something completely unreasonable in mindset.
I just got your book I love it. yeah we make our own bullets for our Hawken rifles
you know Dave, a small container for 10 primers would go good with that tool set!! maybe the choke measure doing double duty? a screw open holder?
you could use an aluminum key chain pill bottle for a small primer carrier and attach it to the keychain ring
I've mixed round ball and shot just for fun I did that to see if it would work Incase I had shot ready and larger game presented it's self
will they be available for 20g?
The black powder - 209 adaptors are avail in 12, 16, 20 and .410 gages. www.gunadapters.com/209-muzzle-loading-adapters/
Love God Love your channel Thank you brother Blessings
What is the brand of shotgun that you have? I always seem to miss or not hear the name. I am looking for a nice single shot like yours, for the same purposes as you use yours.
Is this set still available? I couldn't find it.
Most of the stuff you're talking about is not available
can you shoot a slug,or round ball out of a brass shell thanks.
Have you talked with any game wardens about using the 12ga as a muzzle loader? I may have previously missed it. I'm worried that the first time I go out in muzzle loader season with a kit like this, they take my 'modern firearm' and hunting license, and slap me with a heavy fine. Even if I have no 12ga ammo with me. I realize in actual survival these go out the window, more concerned with regular hunting seasons. I don't own a dedicated black powder weapon
Justin Williams, I would call your local fish and game office to check.
Justin Williams he mentioned that he talked to game and fish around 10 minutes into the video
lol seems like your tired of putting teaches on youtube for free lol or a little frustrated
Dave, I really appreciate making a current video on the single shot shotgun muzzleloader. I will definitely be picking up a couple of the new tools thst u and Ray came up with. thank u for Making quality products for the common man. I support Ur business and am grateful for all that u do for bushcraft and the outdoor crowd. I don't get to hunt as much due to work obligations and I have purchased several adapters from Ur website or short lane arms and I have recently picked up the muzzleloader adapter, but I had one heck of a time hunting down all of Ur old vids on the muzzleloader when u first cranked them out. mostly just because I came across other fav vids u made or new ones that u put out so again I appreciate redoing the muzzleloader adapter info in this vid again. I literally went down the Dave Canterbury rabbit hole trying to research the necessary info on muzzleloader vids. I ended up watching g a bunch of journal of the yurt vids and then ended on the new stainless steel pan vid and going to Ur website and adding two of those to my and my fiance's camping kit. anyway Jeep up the great work glad Ur still innovative all these years later. oh I am starting on Ur trapping series next and then redoing materia medica as the spring nears. thx
Will they also make these in other popular shotgun chamberings like 20 gauge and 410? That'd be awesome
Dave, looks like the bottle opener might work good for a stuck 209 primer because of the cut out on the adapter. I own an adapter so I know the go in and out easy, but I've had a few primers expand and used a pocket knife to pick the primer out.
Would you use true black powder as welll with that measure instead of pyrodex? Or should you use a different measure?
I wanted to add that I can use it during gun season. although i have people laugh and make fun of me for using it as a ml. thats OK though. I'm filling my freezer.
Now that is down right cool. I had never thought about a 12 gauge shotgun being a multi tool. Lol. Thank you for sharing
I also use alpaca wool because I have an endless supply of it and it's my understanding the lubricant is even higher than sheep's wool
It may also be a good idea to provide the same tools in your store that you used to reload black powder shotgun shells. Just a suggestion. Thanks Dave.
Good stuff, I have been waiting for Christmas to buy these for my H&R since I saw these on the website.
very nice equipment.
hey Dave would this adapter be safe to use if my single shot shoots regular shells just fine? thanks
i wounder how far or yards can you shoot round ball out or your h&r shotgun accurately!
Dave, love the vids as always. Have you ever done a video on casting round ball from birdshot in the field?
about how many grains of powder would that be?
where is a good place to get slugs
mold them yourself
wildernessoutfitters Who didn't see that response coming? :)
Molding them is probably best but.. any mart store ill carry most slugs this time of year. Farm n Home, big R, Fleet etc will carry more selection, usually. Ive went both routes before.
the longhunter return, great xmas gift thanks.
Great video as always!
too bad we can't order it from canada.
i remember your video about reloading high wall shot shells, with black powder. you not doing that any more?
or did you run into issues causing you not to perfer that method? seemed like less equip to carry
i guess being that if you used a shot shell, even being used as an adapter, is a "modern" shell....
might cause some heart burn with the gammie
great video keep them coming
Pro hunter not presenter duh
is the adapters 12GA only , do they make it in 20GA
Yes, they make 12. 16, 20 and .410 gage black powder-209 adaptors. www.gunadapters.com/209-muzzle-loading-adapters/
dude Dave that's awesome
hello good vidja
Cool man
Nice...
Where did you get the muzzle loader adapter and the other tools ?
At Dave's Self Reliance Store aka Pathfinder store and at Shortlane Adaptors.
***** Ok thank you :)
I wonder if Dave likes Ted Nugent. I would love to see them hunt together!
