The Beauty In Fighting - Stuck In The Mud | Nicholas Bryant

  • This is the best documentary I've seen in martial arts. I'm proud to present to you a film by Victor Zackrisson & Erik Loong about Nicholas Matthew Bryant.
Sometimes, I struggle to find meaning in fighting.
There are a great number of fighters who lack character. The virtues that are required to excel in fighting don't always transfer over to their daily lives.
But just as many stories like this one make me believe in martial arts.
For every one bad story, there is also a great one. You see, without martial arts, most martial artists would never find peace.
The peace and resilience they find in fighting becomes the reason that they're alive. That is the beauty in fighting.
This video shows the paradox of finding peace through fighting-the meaning behind my logo 靜.

Victor Zackrisson: "Stuck In The Mud is a story about fear and acceptance.
Swedish Fighter Nicholas Bryant were brought up in a turbulent home with a lot drinking and fighting. This imprinted fears in him that made him retreat into his own mind. He describes himself as a boy who were afraid of everything until he found refuge martial arts.
This short film is about Nicholas and his struggles but in many ways also a story about all of us in how we handle adversity and fear.

Beautifully made. The lifestyle that a fighter goes through is an anti- depressant in and of itself. No drinking, clean food, hard exercise 6 times a week. Ironically, by fighting, you have secured peace.

Growing up hard can really screw you up, if you let it. You are either going to drown in your own misery and despair. Or you are going to break the chains that bind you and rise, knocking life the F out. I chose the latter. Good vid man 👍

Thanks a lot for sharing this bro! I myself come from a disfuncional family...My father was an alcoholic...my mother separated from my father when I was five years old...and she beated me often, blaming me for my father's sins...I grew up being afraid...of my mother...of other kids...on top of that, I got very sick...a pneumonia almost took my life when I was seven...the neighbourhood I grew up in Mexico City was violent...with alcohol and drugs available...but I found peace, refuge, beauty and strength in martial arts... martial arts kept me off the streets...away from drugs and alcohol...away from violence and crime...martial arts kept me in the gym...and in the school...martial arts kept and still keep me healthy, and were and are the backbone of the man I am...thanks again, and my very best wishes to you and yours for this new year!

Really enjoyed this video. The purity and honesty in video was well done. Marital arts, no matter background, is a way for lot people who need to find themselves. For myself, had major breakdown in 15 and finding muay thai gym has helped cope with my anxiety just by making commitment to get myself better and my team mates better.

I will have my first Muay Thai fight later this year and this video has helped me understand what I am fighting for. Its not for me, its for freedom and freedom will be achieved.

Most of the good fighters in the world have had some kind of problems in their environment. If that is not poverty then it is some family problems, some abuses, some own sickness, disabilities and so on. I've never seen/heard inspirational stories which come from the other side: coming from a "normal", peacefull environment, good family relations, functional bodies etc. I'm such example. I have a healthy and wealthy childhood, no big problems at all, a peaceful man. But the fact is, I do fight (Kyokushin karate), and yes, many times I wonder why I do fight. At this moment I can only come up with 1 reason: to be brave when it comes to my own fear in anything in this life including faillures and death. It would be nice to tell us your own motivation, not just listen/look and cheers how beautiful this movie is.
