  • There are stand up comics with very large podcasts. But let’s face it, their standup is either not that great or just bad. However they still manage to sell out shows and draw huge live crowds…

You're gonna be big dude, not as many commentary channels covering this side of the internet. You do a good job.

Especially Burr: He is the proper example of how to do both, and use both mediums to help build up the other one. :)

I think if his standup was more crowd work he would be funnier like his podcast, but his style is very traditional standup and it doesn't fit. He's a great story teller.

Joes standup is crap, but he’s very pro comic. Can’t hate the guy for blowing so much money to make the mothership in Texas and getting the hell out of LA, plus his podcast started almost as a project, just talking to random people about nothing and he made it take off. He’s a great guy but yea his comedy is…. Something that’s not for everyone lol

im glad ppl realize joe rogan is not a good comedian. people always involved him in the "greats" conversation when it came to comedians and i was always so confused how tf he gets there when he has middle school stand up humor

An act will always feel a bit off if you’ve consumed 100s of hours of the same comedian talking about all topics, there’s something that always feels fake about it when they get on the stage but it’s probably because we see them as podcasters first

I saw Bobby Lee years ago at a show in Vegas, before I ever listened to a Podcast or knew who he was and he MURDERED the room. I've seen a lot of comedians in stand up shows, and I've seen famous people bomb badly, and I've seen people I didn't know kill the place. Louie CK hands down was the funniest performance I've seen live at Caroline's, Bobby was probably number 2 in Vegas, and Big Jay was probably number 3 at the Comedy Connection.

  • @eslteacherscott4252

I feel the this applies to Theo Von and Tim Dillon especially. Theo is great off the cuff making shit up. I've tried giving his stand up special a few chances but can't seem to finish it. Tim Dillon like wise.
Two Bears One Cave is good because of Segura, I find Bert's behaviour a little annoying on most podcasts he is on so I haven't bothered with his stand up.
I don't think Rogan's stand up comedy is bad by any means, but I can definitely see how it wouldn't be to everyone's taste. I think the disjoint is because he is such a huge name and people tune expecting much more.

I’d argue there isn’t a stand up alive and performing today that is really that good at actual stand up. It’s just that there not a lot of stand ups per capita so as long as your mediocre and persistent you can become a working standup with a following and making good money

I first noticed this back in the O&A days - I was so excited to see Jim Nortons standup and I was sooooo disappointed. He’s a hilarious person but I guess for me, when I listen to someone being casually funny in a relaxed podcast environment, I acclimate to that tone and vibe. The shift from that vibe to standup, especially a special - is rough.
